Geolocations
-
There are many companies who uses Geolocations to cater a specific language for users from different countries. They use several methods below and i want to find out which is the most SEO friendly method?
Method 1: KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken)www.kfc.com (New York)
www.kfc.com.kr (Korea)
www.kfc.com.sg (Singapore)Method 2: OKCupid (online dating)
https://www.okcupid.com/online-dating/new-york/new-york/ (New York)
https://www.okcupid.com/online-dating/singapore/singapore/ (Singapore)Method 3: XXX (Cannot find an example)
www.examplenewyork.comwww.examplesingapore.comQ: which method is the easiest to do SEO?
Q: If i use method 1 and 3 i can use google webmaster tools to specify a location. But if i use method 2, which OK cupid is using, how do i let google know what country is that sub site for? -
Hi Kevin,
I'm reviewing the questions assigned to me as Associate, and I was wondering if you consider this yours as answered.
If it is so, I kindly ask you to set it up as answered.
Thank you.

Mmmm... when I enter in KFC.com, I'm not automatically redirected to Spanish (my language accordingly to IP... as if it was a user agent on browser detection, being my browser set up to English, I would have not seen the option hover selector).
I think that that's a good use of IP detection, because it doesn't involve an automatic redirection to the most "presumed" suitable version of the site. That, in fact, would be a problem because googlebot, having an American IP, would be endlessy redirected to the US version of KFC.
Then, if you want to use subdomains (as KFC does), or country code level domains or subfolders, that's something that only you must decide over the base of business questions more than SEO ones:
- do you have enough presence and visits from the targeted country so to justify a ccTLD? Yes? Go for it. No? Consider subfolder or subdomain;
- do you have an Ecommerce and, therefore, you have a very complex dbase of products, must deal with very specific country laws about whatever thing (i.e.: products you can't sell, products that may have a special legislation in a given country, VAT issue...). If it is so, then consider the ccTLD or the subdomain option
- note that 2. is also valid for any huge website. Subfolders, in fact, can be the less optimal solution from a technological point of view when it comes to multicountry
- You site is not so big and you want to "test" the success it may have when targeting other countries/languages or, maybe, it is still not so strong in terms of visits and conversions from other countries than your mother one, than subfolders possibly are the way to go.
For everything else, then, look at the Aleyda checklist Matt linked in his answer.

Hi
I think you will find the following whiteboard video which has been referred to in the past handy - http://moz.com/blog/international-seo-where-to-host-and-how-to-target-whiteboard-friday
When you embark on this be sure to check out the International SEO Checklist by Aleyda Solis - http://moz.com/blog/the-international-seo-checklist
Also be sure to check out this previous post on International SEO where Danny Dover gives the pros and cons of the different options as you mention above - http://moz.com/blog/seo-guide-international-versions-of-websites
Just to confirm you can add the country level sub-folder in Google Webmaster Tools and then change the country targeting.
Hope this helps!

3 Main Local Ranking Factors
In the Moz article titled Should You Pay for Local Listings Management? by Miriam Ellis, she makes this statement: "Prominence, proximity, and distance are the three types of factors Google tells us it takes into account when ranking local businesses. " I always thought that classic on- and off-page SEO was one of those three factors. What puzzles me about Miriam's statement is this: What's the difference between distance and proximity? Aren't they the same thing?

Verifying Google My Business After An Address Change
Hello,
Local Listings | | Ben-R
We are trying to verify our Google My Business listing, however, the current unverified listing is using an old address we no longer have access to. The only option for verification is through the mail. We tried requesting an edit but it didn’t go through. Would the best option be to create a new one and try to have the old (unverified) listing removed? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Google map pack confusion
Hi there!
Local Listings | | RobWilson
My name's Rob and I'm the owner of Nimble Nerds in Sydney, Australia. We provide on-site visits to customers at their locations to provide IT Support. I would love some insight on my confusion please, as I can't get my head around it after months. I've made individual pages targetting individual suburbs, eg 'computer repairs putney'. I noticed that only suburbs without individual tailored pages were showing in google map pack. So to test it I deleted my Putney page so it would re-index to the home page. Not only did this not result in appearing in that suburb on Map pack I also lost my SERP ranking as well. Is it still good to make individual pages for suburbs please?
Is this going to negatively affect my map pack rankings in suburbs where they're pointing to the homepage?
Does map pack only point to homepages? Confused! Ahah0 -
Trading As Business Name
Some businesses are set us with a company name but trade under another name (or numerous other names). What's the best way to handle this when it comes to Knowledge Graph & Schema.org and what about NAP consistency? Am assuming the only way to handle this is to do something like this: Blue Widgets Ltd trading as Cars UK Or is there a better way?

Not Showing Up in Local Pack - Possible Possum Filter?
We have a medical practice client who isn't showing up at all on local category searches for their zip code. Wondering whether it's a Possum algorithm filter, and if so, how we can resolve this. The client is named Wall Street Dermatology, and is located in the same building as two other medical practices in the same dermatologist specialty. They share the same address (65 Broadway, New York, NY), but have different unit numbers. My client is Suite 904. To be clear, these are entirely separate businesses that are not affiliated with each other. They happen to be located in the same building. When running local searches (for example, in US zip code 10004) for the category term "dermatologist", my client is not appearing at all. The two other practices are appearing just fine. In fact, one of the competing practices has not only their practice listed, but one of their doctors individually and even one of the physician assistants. My client, Wall Street Dermatology, isn't showing up. IMO, the GMB profile is robust, with more reviews than competitors, and more content overall. While there's SEO work to be done, the citations and link profile exceeds some of the other practices who are showing up in "dermatologist" (use zip code 10004) searches. Google is showing profiles of dermatologists who haven't even claimed their profiles or have websites. One more thing: For a two-week span, the business was showing up in the 3-pack for "dermatologist" after making upgrades to the GMB profile. This was a first. So they've been there before. However, they made some changes to NAP. 1) added the providers name to the business name: "Business Name: Provider Name". 2) Updated "Suite" to "Ste" in order to match USPS. After that change, the business fell off entirely again.Note: We do appear on searches for the business name. And we do appear for some secondary keywords (for example, "Cosmetic Dermatology"), but not for the main keyword. Is this related to Possum (https://moz.com/learn/seo/google-possum)? Is Google confused that my client is related to the other practices in the same building? Any suggestions?

Local Recreational Marijuana Dispensaries Disappearing from Google Maps when Plurals used.
This is the second time I have posted this question and never got a satisfactory result. I have an SEO client in Tacoma Wa and when you type (Dispensaries Near Tacoma they are in the Top 3 snack pack and the Google maps shows 20 other similar businesses. However, when you search (Dispensary Near Tacoma) only 3 or 5 recreational marijuana shops show up and my client disappears. Someone earlier suggested it could be because of the categories selection, but that can't affect ALL the other shops and like I said it happens in other cities. for example Dispensary Near Olympia vs Dispensaries Near Olympia. I have the full write up and pictures and diagrams on my blog. Please HELP! This could affect your future clients also. https://isenselogic.com/local-business-disappearing-on-google-maps-when-plurals-used/

Had a local SEO client completely drop off in all rankings...?
Hey everyone! I wanted to ask the Moz community on what I should be on the lookout for in this situation; I have a local SEO client, an orthopedic clinic, who out of nowhere completely dropped off the map. Their Search Visibility is now at .001%. I really have no idea what would have caused this... I have dozens of other local SEO clients and have never seen this before.
