HELP! My website has been penalized - what did I do wrong?
-
I have been working on a website Zing.co.nz and have made a sub domain blog.zing.co.nz. The website is for a company that is yet to launch, so I have been boosting traffic by writing blog posts about the topic (loans) on the subdomain. I pushed some traffic to the actual website too. We were climbing the rankings for our brand name but have all of a sudden started to drop. The domain authority was something like 0.9 and has dropped to 0.3. (Using SEO Spyglass) The blog was somewhere similar, but has dropped to 0.0!!! Please help in anyway you can. These changes have happened within the last 48 hours.

Domain and Page Authority were created by Moz (formerly SEOmoz). I would not trust anyone elses number on that. From what you have here, you have a website for a company that for all intents does not exist and it is in one of the most unscrupulous areas of the Internet... Loans.
I think the issue is likely somewhere within that.Best

Hi,
Never heard of SEO Spyglass before - are you sure that the authority rankings they provide are reliable? Did you also notice a decrease in traffic? Did you notice anything special in Google Webmastertools?
When I checked your site I found a lot of content below the fold & pages which are very heavy (>1.5K) due to the images. Is the content you added to the blog original, or taken from other sources?

Hello Phillip,
Based on what information I could gather from what you have said, I think the DA is a bit of a red herring here. In fact I don't think this is a penalization as much as it is a reflection of your competition.
The primary focus I have is on your content and on your link profile. From what I can see, your link profile is practically non-existent but your content is both original and quite decent. I think there is really only 1 logical solution: you need a better link profile.
Dropping in SERPs can simply be the result of competitors with better link profiles and relatively powerful content out-ranking you. I would put some effort into attaining some powerful and relevant links and see if that doesn't solve the problem. I have had this issue in the past and a few quality links boosted my client's site from a Rank 7 to Rank 1 for their terms within a month. Not saying these results are ordinary, but it can't hurt.
Your content is fine, but perhaps you could market it a bit more and get those links.
Hope this helps!

What could go wrong? SEO on mobile site is different than desktop site.
We have a desktop site that has been getting worked on over the year regarding improving SEO. Since the mobile site is separate, the business decided to not spend the time to keep it updated and just turned it off. So any mobile user that finds a link to us in search engines, goes to a desktop site that is not responsive. Now that we're hearing Google is going to start incorporating mobile user friendliness into rankings, the business wants to turn the mobile site back on while we spend months making the desktop site responsive. The mobile site basically has no SEO. The title tag is uniform across the site, etc. How much will it hurt us to turn on that SEO horrid mobile site? Or how much will it hurt us to not turn it on?

Update: Copied Website
So I discovered a website the other day that is a complete duplicate of ours: justinchina.co.uk This is our website: petmedicalcenter.com . Thanks to help from Erica, I dug in deeper to see why this was happening. It seems that the justinchinca.co.uk which is hosted by GoDaddy has their A Record pointing at our web host. So that being said, our website does not seem to be hacked which is good news. Would this still cause an issue with our Google rankings? Our host, Host Monster said to contact GoDaddy and GoDaddy said that a domain owner can point their URL to anywhere that they choose. Anyway, any feedback would be helpful. Thanks for everyone thus far that has helped me. Brant

Is it wrong to have the same page represented twice in the Nav?
Hi Mozzers, I have a client that have 3 pages represented twice in the Nav. There are not duplicates since they land with the same URL. It seems odd to have this situation but I guess it make sense for my client to have those represented twice since these pages could fall into multiple categories? Is it a bad practice for SEO or is it a waste to have those in the NAV? Should I require to eliminate the extras? Thanks!

Has my site been penalized by google
Hi all I have noticed a sudden drop in rankings for most of my keywords on kerryblu ,co,uk and was thinking the site may have been manually penalized by google. I have not received any notification of this in webmaster tools but can't think of any other reason for the loss of rankings. I have searched the web for info on this but can't find a definite answer. Is there any way of knowing for sure. At the time of the crash the only real change I made was adding google adsense to my blog. Could this be responsible. Thanks for looking.

How can I tell if my site was penalized from the most recent penguin update?
Hey all, I want to be able to see if my website was penalized from the most recent penguin update because we have several hundred websites built and at the bottom of each on it says something along the lines Website by, Web Design by, Hosting by and links back to our homepage. Could this possibly be penalizing us since these links have similar anchor text and on sites that have nothing to do with our services? Thanks, Ryan

Will cleaning up old pr articles help serps?
For a few years we published articles with anchor text backlinks to about 10 different article submission sites. Each article was modified to create similar different articles. We have about 50 completely unique articles. This worked really well for our serps until google panda & penguin updates. I am looking for advice on whether I should have a major clean up of the published articles and if so should I be deleting them, removing or renaming anchor text backlinks? Any advice on what strategy would work best would be appreciated as I don't want to start deleting backlinks and making it worse. We used to enjoy position 1 but are now at 12-15 so have least most of our traffic.

Has Panda help this site achieve great heights? How? and Why?
Today I went about my business in trying to understand what is happening in our market, eyewear, after the last Panda update. I was interested to know if any of our competitors were effected as much as we were for a very competitive key phrase To my surprise a new kid appeared on the block, well, on page one, position two. Imagine my second surprise, when the new kid turn out to be a 3 month old domain, yes 3 months, with zero page rank and zero back links. I was in for one more surprise before I stood up, walked to the window and gazed into space to contenplate the meaning of Panda and SEO as we know it. This third surprise was the site in question is a counterfeiting site using black hat SEO with fast results. It has a Blog its a good looking site with the key phrase menstioned a hundred times. google-UK-%20Search-Result.jpg panda-help.jpg
