Looking to hire an SEO for a Technical Review of my site
-
Hi
I am new to SEO. I am the photographer and blogger behind the photography blog ShootTokyo. I am looking to make sure my site is optimized the best it can be for SEO. My site is a hobby for me but has really grown. I am looking make sure I have best practices implemented. I am not looking for quick fixes or try to cheat the system but to make sure I have a good solid foundation in place for SEO.
I don't have a lot of experience nor a lot of free time so I want to make sure whatever free time I spend on this is really productive. I am looking to initially hire someone to do a technical assessment of my site and identify any fundamental issues I should address first. Once I have the assessment I am looking for advice on putting together a work plan on what I need to do and the best way to approach it. How can I best use the tools Moz is offering me? Which things are higher value that I should work on first, specific to my site? For more technical things I might hire this person to implement them or teach me how to implement them.
If this is your business can you please let me know what your qualifications, experience, a link to your site and give me a range of what you might charge for something like this (you can email me details if you don't want to post here). If this isn't your business but have a recommendation I would love one.
I am Tokyo based so ideally someone either in Asia, Europe or West Coast of US as it makes it easier to connect live if needed.
Thanks
Dave

As Egol has said....it's all true...and as he never takes any consulting....he's unavailable
But DO look up Alan on google - and you'll find he's one of the best known, most revered, most reputable audit guys out there...in fact I couldn't even name a peer of his....he's def the one to contact.

David,
EGOL has already offered some good guidance. Beyond that though...
Since you've openly posted this request I'll respond accordingly (I do not usually even think about direct pitching in Q&A).
I've been doing internet marketing 20 years, SEO 15. My primary business the past few years is site audits. If you would like to learn more, you can visit my site, where I go into depth about my background and what you can expect from an audit. Pricing is also communicated there.

Wow, you do have a lot of fantastic photos of interesting subjects. Why doesn't McDs have those nice burgers at my local restaurant?
This is what I would do if I owned your site. My goal with these would be to attract increasing amounts of traffic.
-
Unlike most photographer sites we see here, you have a nice amount of text content. That is great. My goal would always be to kick it up a little more and say a bit more about each photo or a bit more of an introduction or a closing piece for each page of the site. I know that you took a lot more photos than what are posted here. Maybe comment on why you like each photo, why you selected it, more about what it shows. Every additional diverse word related to the topic on the page has the opportunity to attract more traffic. Place names can be especially valuable.
-
The Archive Pages VS Category Pages. At the top of your blog you have links to archive pages. I think that you would get a lot more browsing by visitors if those were replaced by your category pages. That is my assumption. I would test it to find out if my site gets more pageviews per visitor with categories instead of archives in the top navigation - or you can include both archive and category in the top nav.
I used to include archive pages on my sites but from experience they attracted very little traffic from search. Why? Their title tags did match very many queries in the search engines. You can check your analytics to see if this is true. Are they pulling in traffic from search? In comparison, my category pages pulled in a lot of traffic from search. Also, my archive pages were not viewed very much. So, I removed my archive pages from the site. That directed all of the power that originally went into them into other parts of the site and I believe that elevated the performance of the site overall.

Linking between your topic pages. I don't see a lot of linking between the content pages of your site. If you have other pages with related photos, related locations, related topics, etc. you can lift visitor engagement by linking to them. Also, the text links in your content are simply slightly darker font. I would change that to a bright blue and underlined. That shouts the presence of the links and attract attention. That should move more visitors between the pages of your site and up the engagement, maybe up search performance too as google finds more keyword connectivity between your pages, lower bounce rate, higher browser rate.
-
Title tags. In my opinion, your title tags are brief and very often include only very common words such as "Behind the Scenes" and "Lunch in the Clouds". These generally don't perform as well in search as titles with the nouns of products, geography, people, organizations, etc. Consider changing "Lunch in the Clouds" to... "Lunch with Mt. Fuji and Tokyo Through The Clouds". I think it will get more traffic from search. I would do this with lots of the titles if this was my website.
I hope that you find something useful here. I offer this information to be helpful. I am not looking to be hired because I have enough work on my own sites.

One keyword optimization for the whole site
Hello Folks at MOZ, I am new here and I am glad there's this section of the site where newbies can get help for SEO. I have a specific keyword which needs to rank as well as possible, and all other keywords, well they are automatically in the description text alt tags and in couple of page titles. So my keyword which I would need to rank as high as possible is "24k gold iphone 6" and it has quite lot's of searches per month, and my site is now one second page of google results. My question is: I don't care much about other keywords right now, so would it make sense to make on one or two pages which sell the 24k gold iphone of my website the title, the page url, headers, alt tags, image names, to be exactly "24k gold iphone 6" and /24k-gold-iphone-6.html etc. without any other text. I believe there is a difference in having exact same page title name etc as the keyword, without any additional text is good for ranking? Also I guess there is limit on how much this naming of files, titles etc can be used before google might give a penalty for it... so I guess I have to be careful. Many thanks for anybody who takes time to respond.

An SEO Strategy (need review)
I work in the real estate vertical. My clients possess significant content. Though it's not written. They have tons of images and plenty of videos. They have content in the form of descriptions of homes etc... They don't have written content that would be valuable in an attempt to rank. Most traffic in real estate vertical is [city] real estate and [city] homes for sale. Agents rarely ever use those phrases. Certainly not when doing what they do, promoting their listings. I am thinking I need to build a link building strategy around their videos and photos. There are tons of high domain sources to get links from. With video I could do youtube, vimeo, veoh, daily motion, hulu, etc... All of these sites are DA 90+. None of the links are follow. They would all be no follow. I could have a profile back link, and a back link on each video. So one video distributed to 10 sites would be worth 10 back links. So a client would build hundreds of backlinks a year. All of value. I could deep link all the back links to appropriate subdivision landing pages (long tail). The same strategy is applicable with photos. There are dozens of high DA sites that syndicate images. All would result in a lot of links that are high DA with no-follow. Please discuss this strategy. Also, if you can think of another strategy to build back links for real estate then please share it. I want to discuss real ground level back link building. Not "just build content and they will come." I need the sites to rank. I don't know if no-follows will even help them rank for long tail keywords.

Vimeo Pro, video SEO and rich snippets
Hi All, we are producing product demonstration videos. One major aim with these videos is to help our rankings for these specific product pages and associated keywords... and to get rich snippets displayed on Google results pages against our listing. We have used schema.org markup in the product pages body code along with / next to the embed vimeo video code on the product page in order to hopefully get us rich snippet listing... we used schema.org markup as this seems to be the main current markup for rich snippets we have hosted the video via Vimeo Pro so that it is served quickly and not affected by speed of our hosting server or any possible bandwidth issues on our hosting server and ensure sthat the traffic comes to our site pages rather then Youtube or similar Vimeo Privacy settings for the video have been set so that we have not allowed it to be embed anywhere except for our own domain and the video is not displayed on Vimeo.com to ensure that the video is not duplicated anywhere else... so that this is unique content on our own site for maximum value for our domain We have used the "old code" from Vimeo Pro for embedding the video on our product page rather than the current iframe code as from what i understand Google cant follow very well and doesn't necessarily trust content displayed in iframes. Video and schema.org markup code used is on product page is: <div itemprop="<a class="attribute-value">video</a>" itemscope itemtype="<a class="attribute-value">http://schema.org/VideoObject</a>"> <p ><strong>Watch our <span itemprop="<a class="attribute-value">name</a>">Click 7 Lite Duo demonstrationspan>:strong>p> <meta itemprop="<a class="attribute-value">thumbnailURL</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">http://www.3wisemonkeys.co.uk/img/products/nextbase-click-7-lite-duo-thumb.jpg</a>" /> <meta itemprop="<a class="attribute-value">duration</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">T2M23S</a>" /> <span itemprop="<a class="attribute-value">description</a>">A product demonstration showing what's included in the box when you buy a Click 7 Lite Duospan>...:<br /> <p align="<a class="attribute-value">center</a>"> p> <p align="<a class="attribute-value">center</a>"><object width="<a class="attribute-value">500</a>" height="<a class="attribute-value">281</a>"><param name="<a class="attribute-value">allowfullscreen</a>" value="<a class="attribute-value">true</a>" /><param name="<a class="attribute-value">allowscriptaccess</a>" value="<a class="attribute-value">always</a>" /><param name="<a class="attribute-value">movie</a>" value="<a class="attribute-value">http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=67392721&force_embed=1&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=00adef&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0</a>" /><embed src="[http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=67392721&force_embed=1&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=00adef&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0](view-source:http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=67392721&force_embed=1&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=00adef&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0)" type="<a class="attribute-value">application/x-shockwave-flash</a>" allowfullscreen="<a class="attribute-value">true</a>" allowscriptaccess="<a class="attribute-value">always</a>" width="<a class="attribute-value">500</a>" height="<a class="attribute-value">281</a>">embed>object> p> div> Page this code is used on: http://www.3wisemonkeys.co.uk/proddet.jsp?id=2016&cat=1 Could anyone confirm whether the above seems to be what we need to do / should be doing to get the most value from these videos for helping our web site rank better with Google / search engine results pages as well as getting rich snippets displayed? Lastly does the above code seem correct and include all the necessaries for rich snippets? Thanks for any pointers.

Does displaying a mobile number for business hurt local SEO?
Perhaps a silly question but could someone please clarify if displaying a mobile number in the main site or Google places etc would hurt local SEO? Is having a regional landline/fixed telephone number a ranking factor? EDIT: This is for a UK site, does anyone have experience of this is UK please?

Genuine Reciprocal Google Places Reviews, is that OK?
I have a client who works with other businesses, is it OK to have reciprocal reviews going on, they would be genuine reviews both both sides as they work for each other. Is that OK? Is it best for my client to use the Google Account that holds their Google Places page for doing the reviews? Or should they have a separate account for writing reviews, not associated with their business? I would appreciate your thoughts on this please? Many thanks Leo

Google Places 3rd Party Reviews...
I have a client in the wedding industry who has quite a few awesome reviews on WeddingWire and a few other wedding resources. I've looked at the competition on Google Places, and Google counts their WeddingWire reviews. However, Google is not showing or counting my client's WeddingWire reviews, when in fact my client has better ratings and more reviews. Any ideas on why this might be or how I can get Google to include these reviews for my client? Thanks so much!!

Local Seo Help!
Hi everyone, Google Places is going to be the death of me. I have asked a few questions on this topic before but nothing seems to work. Here are some of my problems/concerns: It keeps deleting my description!? Have you seen this before? The "more about this place" section has not been updated since I claimed the listing over 3 months ago. The website it lists at the top of that section is our old website address which no longer works. The site was through a site builder and the company will not forward the domain to the new site. Are there any companies or services that can help build a great profile and help increase my rankings? I am starting to think this is over my head. Do I delete the page and start over? Any advice? Please! Do I need incoming links to my mobile site, if I want to rank for mobile search?
Does a mobile site need backlinks to rank? Or are onsite factors the one and only here? And what are the most important "onsite" factors for mobile seo?
