Use of Keyword Analysis Tool (espcially regarding search volume)
-
Hello!
I am fairly new to Moz and just starting to explore the available Research Tools. At first glance, I was very excited about the Keyword Analysis tool, but I quickly realized that (a) I wasn't receiving the information I needed and (b) I didn't know what to do with the information it gave me. So...
Two specific questions:
-
Is there any way to see the Google Search Volume instead of the Bing Search Volume? The overwhelming majority of our organic site traffic comes from Google, so it seems silly to look at the Bing search volume.
-
How do you deal with the fact that this tool only returns search volume based on an exact match? As we know, there are some many ways the same general query could be entered, but it seems ridiculous for me to sit there and run the tool against every iteration I can think of just to get a general sense of the search volume.
Two general questions:
- What do you find helpful about the Keyword Analysis tool and how does it inform your SEO work?
- What other tools do you recommend to help determine Google search volume for keywords?
Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

Hey World Learning!
Check out this Q&A from a few months back about the same topic. Might help you understand better but Ray-pp and Linda are absolutely correct!

Google does not allow Moz to use their data for this, which is why Moz uses Bing data.

Hi World_Learning,
Welcome to the Moz community!
- Is there any way to see the Google Search Volume instead of the Bing Search Volume? The overwhelming majority of our organic site traffic comes from Google, so it seems silly to look at the Bing search volume.
I prefer to go straight to Google to get the search volume, tbh. That tool is located here. Unfortunately, I only show Bing traffic volume as well, but maybe someone knows of a setting that I've overlooked.
With that said, you do not want to disregard Bing traffic. It does only account for a small portion of traffic, but the search behavior (and conversion behavior) could be wildly different from the traffic it brings to your website. You might be able to identify some very important terms that drive your KPIs and have them be unique to Bing.
- How do you deal with the fact that this tool only returns search volume based on an exact match? As we know, there are some many ways the same general query could be entered, but it seems ridiculous for me to sit there and run the tool against every iteration I can think of just to get a general sense of the search volume.
I've found Keyword traffic estimates to be very limited with almost every keyword tool out there. Again, I prefer to go straight to the source when analyzing a keyword's traffic volume, which is the Google Keyword Planner. Where Moz Pro adds value, I've found, is around the competitive SERP analysis - what sort of difficulty am I looking at, who are the people in the top 10, and how did they get there so I can emulate and out-perform. However, the initial traffic estimates are more accurately received from Google themselves.
- What do you find helpful about the Keyword Analysis tool and how does it inform your SEO work?
The competitive an difficulty analysis. Their tools will help you identify what a SERP has done right to get there, what the sources of links are, what their linking profile looks like, and then you can deduce how to out-perform your competitors to get above them in the SERPs.
- What other tools do you recommend to help determine Google search volume for keywords?
Only the Google Keyword Planner - there isn't much of a reason to use any other tool. It comes straight from Google, they give you additional, related keywords and volume, and help you group them into common themes. This is my first and sometimes only tool for keyword traffic analysis.

Keyword explorer and relevancy
Hello, In the keyword explorer when I group keywords by lexical similarity should I only choose keywords that have a high relevancy to my seed keyword (the one I typed and want to rank on ? Let me give you an example. Let's say my seed keyword (the one I want to rank on) is "Alsace bike tours. With the keyword explorer I group the keywords and find the group " cycling in Alsace" (ok I take that one because it relevant to "Alsace bike tours" then I find "Strasbourg to Colmar by bike" I also take this one because it is also relevant to "alsace bike tours" but what about concepts like "Alsace wine region", Alsatian architecture, wines of Alsace, cuisine of Alsace or prettiest villages in Alsace... should I totally dismiss those from my content because they aren't relevant to my keyword "Alsace bike tours" or is it ok to use them but it won't help me at all ? Thank you,

Why do my search results differ from MOZ's rank tracker
This is starting to happen a lot, i mean they weren't always an exact match but they differed by a few places. But now the gap between results I'm getting and MOZ's own rank tracker is quite large. For my keyword my page ranks on MOZ at 39 (it was 25 but has slipped down). Im seeing my page on page 1 locally and page 2 in incognito mode. Now I understand there are other factors such as browser history, cookies, am i logged into gmail etc. Thats why I asked colleagues to use Internet explorer and they have nothing to do with SEO so their history wont affect the search. They report seeing it on page 2, even colleagues in a different office in a different city sees it on page 2. I want to contact the department in question and share the good news that they've gone from none existent to 14th in what is a very competitive area. But MOZ's result has be second guessing whether I should. Any ideas why the gap between results is so large? Thanks

Moz Crawl Test Tool - SEO Web Crawler showing up with no details
So basically I have ran the Moz Crawl Test tool twice for this url "bubblingwithenergy.info" and both times the report has listed 1 URL when there is obviously a lot more if you check the site. My question is, why is the Moz Crawl only reporting 1 URL when there are heaps? Is there a possibility it is being blocked and if so what would be blocking it? This website is using a CMS called Infusion and it is based off CMSMS (CMS Made Simple). Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Using Moz to find blogger with good PR.
Hi, My manager has recently informed me that you can use Moz in order to find blogger by category and their page rank. Is this possible? The reason for this is because we are looking for blogger with a good page rank and who are relevant to our sector, which is days out, outdoor activities, zipwires, adventure etc. We then want to contact them to see if we can invite them to write about our Tree Top Adventure and zip trekking activities. Any help would be much appreciated.

Keyword Tool using Bing instead of Google
I'm trying to analyze some keywords, and I've selected 'Google' and 'United States' - but when the ranking comes back, it is showing up as the rankings for Bing. Any idea why this continues to happen? Thanks!
