Community of Recipes
-
If i have a community of recipes where there may be multiple recipes of a cheesecake uploaded by different users, what would you recommend me to do ? does it affects me as duplicated content.

Hi Victor,
IMO, there are no two identical cheesecakes. So I would not consider it as an issue, UNTIL they are not a complete copy-paste to each other.
Let's say that I have a way to cook a Hungarian goulash, and my best friend makes the "same" Hungarian goulash, but he does "personalize" it. We have two recipes, still we have two different recipes.
The way you could make it more "unique" is to let the community comment on these recipes (for ex. have a button like: "give your compliments to this chef!" and give the possibility to the users to give a personal opinion about the specific recipe. This way community members will generate the unique content to each of the recipes. (lets face it, I do not think comments will be copy-pasted to the similar recipes).
This is a personal opinion, I'd love to hear feedback from others.
Gr., Keszi

AMP for Online Forums/Communities
This great article by Eric Enge makes a compelling case for jumping to AMP for news sites, but does anyone have any data or have heard of an online forum using AMP as well? I run an online community and we are thinking of making the (relatively heavy) investment into making most of our pages AMP friendly... Thank you! Patrick

Community Discussion - Are annotations an overlooked avenue for driving traffic from YouTube?
Happy Friday, Q&A friends! This week's discussion question comes from Amir Jaffari's YouMoz post from Thursday, January 28. Amir explains how he was able to use annotations to massively increase his YouTube videos' views without using ads, and raise his annotation CTR 22,400%. Have you tested annotations to see if they dramatically improve conversion rates? What were the results? What other strategies have you tried?

Community Discussion - What's the ROI of "pruning" content from your ecommerce site?
Happy Friday, everyone! 🙂 This week's Community Discussion comes from Monday's blog post by Everett Sizemore. Everett suggests that pruning underperforming product pages and other content from your ecommerce site can provide the greatest ROI a larger site can get in 2016. Do you agree or disagree? While the "pruning" tactic here is suggested for ecommerce and for larger sites, do you think you could implement a similar protocol on your own site with positive results? What would you change? What would you test?

How to make Google include our recipe pages in its main index?
We have developed a recipe search engine www.edamam.com and serve the content of over 500+ food bloggers and major recipe websites. Our legal obligations do not allow us to show the actual recipe preparation info (e.g. the most valuable from the content), we can only show a few images, the ingredients and nutrition information. Most of the unique content goes to the source/blog. By submitting XML sitemaps on GWT we now have around 500K pages indexed, however only a few hundred appear in Google's main index and we are looking for a solution to include all of them in the index. Also good to know is that it appears that all our top competitors are in the exactly same situation, so it is a challenging question. Any ideas will be highly appreciated! Thanks, Lily

Local SEO for a community.
How would one go about best doing local SEO for a townhome community? It seems to fall in between the traditional imformational SEO and the brick and mortar, G+ page model. There seems to be no way to attack the NAP, directory and traditional citation model for a certain region they build in. Any thoughts?

Sudden drop in ranks and traffic after migrating community website into main domain
Hi, We recently moved our community website (around 50K web pages) to our main domain. It now resides as a sub-domain on our main website. e.g. Before - we had www.mainwebsite.com and www.communitywebsite.com After - we have www.communitywebsite.mainwebsite.com This change took place on July 19th. After a week, we saw 16% drop in organic traffic to mainwebsite.com. Our ranks on most of the head keywords including brand keywords have dropped. We had created 301 redirects from pages on www.communitywebsite.com before this change was made. Has anybody seen this kind of impact when domains are merged? Should we expect that within 3-4 weeks Google will be able to re-index and re-rank all the pages? Is there anything else we could do to rectify the situation? Any feedback/suggestions are welcome!
