Google Webmaster Warning for Non-mobile Optimized Pages
-
I just received a warning in Webmaster Tools that my site pages are not optimized for mobile devices and the search results for pages will be decreased in mobile searches. Just got it yesterday and I see no drop yet, but anyone else seen this????
The notice states that the site is not optimized for viewport, text size and proper space for clickable elements. All of that is true since we have not yet completed our responsive design conversion.
Any idea if Google will give us a little time to get this resolved, or do my rankings start dropping right away?
Just when you think you are moving forward with Google, they pull the rug out again...
-
I just hope they give us some more time to get things resolved and roll this out slowly so that it is not like a major penalty.

Lots of great responses from the Moz community. Thank you. I got pretty concerned about this because we see alot of our organic traffic as coming from mobile. I'm taking this pretty seriously and have already hired a programmer to get the site fully responsive. My deadline for getting it completed is 10-14 days, so I hope that Google gives us some more time to implement changes.
At first I was a bit disheartened, but this is actually pushing me to get changes done that I have been procrastinating on, so maybe it is a good thing.
I just hope that the criteria Google uses for mobile compatibility is fairly loose, so it is obvious what needs to be fixed to be considered mobile friendly.
Best Regards,

We got the same warning here at Moz in WMT. While responsive isn't affecting rankings yet, it's coming and Google's letting us know ahead of time. Additionally, if your competitors aren't mobile-optimized, this may be a great way to get a leg up on them.
-
I got the same warning for one off our brand sites, but I don't really monitor the rankings at the moment as these are only really holding sites.
-
The shift is happening. I just did a review in Google Anayltics and noticed in 2010 we had 0.5% traffic from mobile devices today it is over 13%. This trend is likely not going to change. Google is trying to be pro-active here.

Hi Lawrence,
I agree with Ryan. As search is shifting more and more towards mobile, Google is starting to let webmasters know if their website is mobile friendly. I have noticed more warnings on some of our old websites and a few on our new. We are just going back to each one and making sure they are mobile friendly. The good news is that there are plenty of tools and resources to get this done pretty fast.
-
Hi Lawrence. You're actually ahead of the curve on this one--think of all the sites that aren't even setup with Google Webmaster Tools accounts--so you'll have some time before seeing a harsh change in the rankings. That said, MANY people are seeing this warning, and it is a stated position from Google that they want site owners to use more mobile friendly layouts. It sounds like you have the redesign in the works, so a little extra motivation to get it done soon... Cheers!

Non Published Wordpress Pages
Hi, Is there any negative SEO consequences from having too many pages private or not published. Can it like slow the site down or does it not matter? Someone in my dept. has so many pages started/not complete and besides being messy, I wonder if it has any negative impact on the site. Thanks

Redesigned and Migrated Website - Lost Almost All Organic Traffic - Mobile Pages Indexing over Normal Pages
We recently redesigned and migrated our site from www.jmacsupply.com to https://www.jmac.com It has been over 2 weeks since implementing 301 redirects, and we have lost over 90% of our organic traffic. Google seems to be indexing the mobile versions of our pages over our website pages. We hired a designer to redesign the site, and we are confident the code is doing something that is harmful for ranking our website. F or Example: If you google "KEEDEX-K-DS-FLX38" You should see our mobile page ranking: http://www.jmac.com/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=KEEDEX-K-DS-FLX38 but the page that we want ranked (and we think should be, is https://www.jmac.com/Keedex_K_DS_FLX38_p/keedex-k-ds-flx38.htm) That second page isn't even indexed. (When you search for: "site:jmac.com Keedex K-DS-FLX38") We have implemented rel canonical, and rel alternate both ways. What are we doing wrong??? Thank you in advance for any help - it is much appreciated.

Sitemap errors have disappeared from my Google Webmaster tools
Hi all, A week ago I had 66 sitemap errors related to href langs in my GWT. Now, all the errors are gone, and it shows no errors. We have not done any work to fix the errors. I wonder if anybody has experienced the same thing, of Google suddenly changing the criteria or the way they report on errors in Google Webmaster Tools. I would appreciate any insights from the community! Best regards Peru

Ajax Optimization in Mobile Site - Ajax Crawling
I'm working on a mobile site that has links embedded in JavaScript/Ajax in the homepage. This functionality is preventing the crawlers for accessing the links to mobile specific URLs. We're using an m. sub-domain. This is just an object in the homepage with an expandable list of links. I was wondering if using the following solution provided by Google will be a good way to help with this situation. https://developers.google.com/webmasters/ajax-crawling/ Thanks!

Mobile site rank on Google S.E. instead of desktop site.
Hello, all SEOers~ Today, I would like to hear your opinion regarding on Mobile site and duplicate contents issue. I have a mobile version of our website that is hosted on a subdomain (m instead www). Site is targeting UK and Its essentially the same content, formatted differently. So every URL on www exists also at the "m" subdomain and is identical content. (there are some different contents, yet I could say about 90% or more contents are same) Recently I've noticed that search results are showing links to our mobile site instead of the desktop site. (Google UK) I have a sitemap.xml for both sites, the mobile sitemap defined as follows: I didn't block googlebot from mobile site and also didn't block googlebot-mobile from desktop site. I read and watched Google webmaster tool forum and related video from Matt Cutts. I found many opinion that there is possibility which cause duplicate contents issue and I should do one of followings. 1. Block googlebot from mobile site. 2. Use canonical Tag on mobile site which points to desktop site. 3. Create and develop different contents (needless to say...) Do you think duplicate contents issue caused my mobile site rank on S.E. instead of my desktop site? also Do you think those method will help to show my desktop site on S.E.? I was wondering that I have multi-country sites which is same site format as I mentioned above. However, my other country sites are totally doing fine on Google. Only difference that I found is my other country sites have different Title & Meta Tag comparing to desktop site, but my UK mobile site has same Title & Meta Tag comparing to desktop. Do you think this also has something to do with current problem? Please people~! Feel free to make some comments and share your opinion. Thanks for reading my long long explanation.

Number of Indexed Pages in Webmaster Tools
My # of indexed pages in Webmaster Tools fluctuates greatly. Compared to the # of URLs submitted (4700), we have 3000 indexed. The other day, all 4700 were indexed. Why does it keep changing? I obviously want all of them indexed right? What can I do to make that happen?
