Reclaim lost links to old pages?
-
We recently moved our site to a new CMS and did a complete redesign, with new content. It's really hit our SEO. Open site explorer is telling me there are lots of 404 web pages which were basically old product pages that no longer exist, since the way we have structured the site has changed. So is it worth trying to reclaim these links? If so, how can I do that without building pages at the URL - will a 301 redirect be enough?

Thanks, much appreciated!

Here is a recently published a nice article on exactly same issue by Neil patel on 26th feb 15@ http://www.searchenginejournal.com/tactical-guide-making-old-pages-rank-google/124575/
I hope it helps
Thanks

Hi,
Yes - you absolutely should do this. As you said, 301 redirects would be the way to go as these pass almost all of the link juice to the page you redirect to. If there's not an easy way to add redirects using your CMS, you can use your .htaccess file but this is very powerful and can cause server issues. If you're unsure, ask your developers or better still, send them a list of old pages and where they should be redirected to implement them for you.

Redirect these pages with 301 to the corresponding new ones would be the easiest thing to do. It would even be better to try to contact the site owners and update the links, but I have to admit that this could be a enormous work and in some cases you have the risk that the link is removed rather than replaced.

Should I set blog category/tag pages as "noindex"? If so, how do I prevent "meta noindex" Moz crawl errors for those pages?
From what I can tell, SEO experts recommend setting blog category and tag pages (ie. "http://site.com/blog/tag/some-product") as "noindex, follow" in order to keep the page quality of indexable pages high. However, I just received a slew of critical crawl warnings from Moz for having these pages set to "noindex." Should the pages be indexed? If not, why am I receiving critical crawl warnings from Moz and how do I prevent this?

All ranked pages on Googles SERP only links to home
I got a problem regarding my website called musik.dk, and hope you guys are able to help. I just got my first ranking results from Moz. My question is: All my keywords are linking to the home page, and not the artist page? For examples if I were to search on Rihanna on Google, then when musik.dk appears on the SERP, it only links to the home, and not musik.dk/rihanna.. This problem applies to all the given artists ranked on Googles SERP, it never shows the artist page itself, only links to home. Let me know if you need any information, and I gladly supply, this is kind of frustrating to me.. As a note: all pages besides the home has a PA of 1, and it doesn't really seem to change. Codeigniter - Controller and duplicate pages
Hi there, I use Codeigniter as framework and I have a question about the duplicate page. Actually, for default, the typical page in a CodeIgniter framework is something like this: http://www.domain.com/site/contact where site is the controller containing the contact function that point to the contact.html view... To have a better URL I use a trick with the "routes" that redirect any http://www.domain.com/contact to the original http://www.domain.com/site/contact Of course the both are valid and the both are... crawled! So I get the duplicate page. Is this something I have to manage, maybe with .htaccess? Any idea would be very appreciated. Thanks for you precious time guys! Shella

Finding Broken Links
My campaign report says I have a 404 error for a sub page located at domain/products/contact.aspx My contact page is not in the /products directory so what I'm wondering is if this means that somewhere on a site I have a link pointed to /products/contact.aspx. I've looked everywhere and cannot find the link if it is out there somewhere.

How can competition outrank you if your site has better Domain/Page Authority, More links, and More Social sharing?
Say you have a site that has better Domain/page authority, more links, more social media sharing, and a lot more indexed pages (thanks to blogging) than the competition. Of course all of these metrics are based off of data from SEOMoz open site explorer tool which I am not sure if it produces accurate data. 1. Other than exact match domains or the age of a domain what would be other reasons why competition would outrank you? 2. Can anyone suggest other ways to help increase a sites domain/page authority besides creating more indexed pages, link building, etc..?
