Http to Https Backlink Value
-
We updated our website from http to https and I wanted to know how backlinks were affected by this. The new site redirects all old http links to the https home page.
How does this affect more specific backlinks like http://www.mysite.com/about ? The old http://www.mysite.com/about is now being directed to https://www.mysite.com . Do I need to set up redirects to pass value to my new pages?

The easiest way to do the https redirect correctly is to use htaccess

Thank you for the response.
A few questions, do the old page links still have the ability to pass value as long as linking domain has authority? Why does that authority not get passed to my home page now with the auto redirects to https?
And is there a proper way to redirect to keep the link value, or does it not matter?

Hey Nathan
A portion of this was actually a question earlier in the forum. You can see the question and answers here.
But please, do not redirect your entire old site to your new homepage URL alone. This doesn't provide any value.
Here is a great URL Mapping resource from Google. Make sure all your old URLs are going to where they should be going, not just blanketed to the homepage.
Let me know if you need anymore help or guidance. Good luck!

301 Redirecting http to https

So I changed the code in htaccess to make it 301 redirect but I'm still getting the same error. I implemented it last week and we just had a new crawl yesterday. Here is the new code: RewriteEngine on

Value of having a good crawl budget?
Hi, I've seen several questions where people give advice on how to increase the crawl budget. What I haven't seen anyone comment is what the value of this really is if you have many pages that doesn't get updated very often. Take for example the typical agency page - 50 pages, most of them rarely gets updates. In a monthly basis normally 10% of the website gets updated. Is there really any value then of having 100% of the website crawled on a daily basis?

SEO value of an on-site hosted blog
We are in the process of upgrading our blogging capability. Our preference would be to host a Wordpress blog under our site url. However due to our technical set up we've found out that it isn't possible to put Wordpress onto our servers so we'll need to go with a hosted version. Does anyone have any idea or examples of how this could affect our SEO performance? Also - is Wordpress the best tool - seems to be the most popular! Thanks. Jon
