Old pages - should I remove them from serps?
-
Hi guys,
I need an advice from you, a recommendation.
I have some old LPs from old campaigns, around 70 pages indexed on Google, campaigns that are not available anymore. I have removed them from my DB, but they still remained on server so Google still sees them as URLs on my site, witch I totally agree. What should I do with this pages?
Should I remove them completely? (url removal tool) or use rel=canonical?
How will this affect my domain authority and rankings?
This pages doesn't bring traffic any more, maybe a view now and then, but overall this pages don't bring traffic.

Since the campaigns are no longer available, I assume that these pages are no longer useful to the visitor. In which case, just put a note on the landing page that says "This offer is no longer available, but you might be interested in ...." In this case, the URLs remain in Google's index.
Alternatively, you can remove the pages from the server and 301-redirect each URL to your current campaign(s) if that seems more appropriate for the user. Because of the redirects, Google will eventually remove the URLs from their index.
In terms of SEO, the goal is not to lose any link equity coming from backlinks to those landing pages. If you simply use the URL removal tool, you'll lose any value from the backlinks. As Chris says, the canonical tag is relevant to duplicate content and not this type of situation.

Completely agree with Chris.

Ask yourself "are they helpful for the user" if the answer is yes you should keep them, if no then remove them. Even if that theoretical user only comes for a visit rarely its still helpful to keep them about.
Canonical is only helpful if the content is the same if not its not the best option.
You may loose some authority if there are links pointing toward them but a 301 to a relevant resource may help avoid loosing this, you can check this in OSE etc. though.

Pricing value pages
We have the main pricing page here: https://www.eginnovations.com/product/pricing Then depending on what you click, you'll be taken to the appropriate form on one of these pages: https://www.eginnovations.com/product/request-quote?pricetype=audit https://www.eginnovations.com/product/request-quote?pricetype=saas https://www.eginnovations.com/product/request-quote?pricetype=perpetual https://www.eginnovations.com/product/request-quote?pricetype=subscription How should I handle these? Noindex, follow? Set a canonical? I keep getting notifications that these are duplicate content, but it's just a way to keep the form fills organized. Thanks for your help!

My Website's Home Page is Missing on Google SERP
Hi All, I have a WordPress website which has about 10-12 pages in total. When I search for the brand name on Google Search, the home page URL isn't appearing on the result pages while the rest of the pages are appearing. There're no issues with the canonicalization or meta titles/descriptions as such. What could possibly the reason behind this aberration? Looking forward to your advice! Cheers

Can I speed up removal of cache for 301'd page on unverified website?
I recently asked another website to remove a page from their website (I have no control over this website) and they have now 301'd this old URL to another - this is just what I wanted. My only aim now is to see the Google cache removed for that page as quickly as possible.

I'm not sure that asking the website to remove the url via WMT is the right way to go and assume I should just be waiting for Google to pick up the 301 and naturally remove the cache. But are there any recommended methods I can use to speed this process up? The old URL was last cached on 3 Oct 2014 so not too long ago. I don't think the URL is linked from any other page on the Internet now, but I guess it would still be in Google's list of URLs to crawl. Should I sit back and wait (who knows how long that would take?) or would adding a link to the old URL from a website I manage speed things up? Or would it help to submit the old URL to Google's Submission tool? URL0 -
One page of the site disappeared from serp for a month now
Im working on a clients site and been promoting a specific page to a keyword. started to move up the ranks and exactly a month ago on the 19/5 ( on the same day of the last update) updated the main page im working on with new content and published some other new pages on related subjects that all are linking to the main page im working on ( without the same anchor text in the links ) on the same day i found out that because of a technical error the new content was published on 5 other pages of the site and obviously created a duplicate content issue and i removed all the duplicates on the same day , i assume G caught this thing and punished the site for the duplicate content issue but : when i search the page directly with site:...i can find it. its been a month since i fixed all issues that i thought could impact the page..no duplicate content on the site. no KW stuffing. no spammy links to the page. everything seems fine now my question : why is my page not showing ? how long should i wait before giving up and creating a new page .? how come my site has not lost any organic traffic ( apart from that specific page ) ? is it possible to penalize only one page ? can i recover from this at all ? thanks

Should I delete a page or remove links on a penalized page?
Hello All, If I have a internal page that has low quality links point to it or a penality. Can I just remove the page, and start over versus trying to remove the links? Over time wouldn't this page disapear along with the penalty on that page? Kinda like pruning a tree? Cutting off the junk limbs so other could grow stronger, or to start new fresh ones. Example: www.domain.com Penalized Internal Page: (Say this page is penalized due to keyword stuffing, and has low quality links pointing to it like blog comments, or profiles) www.domain.com/penalized-internal-page.com Would it be effective to just delete this page (www.domain.com/penalized-internal-page.com) and start over with a new page. New Internal Page: www.domain.com/new-internal-page.com I would of course lose any good links point to that page, but it might be easier then trying to remove old back links. Thoughts? Thanks! Pete
