Hi i wonder if anyone can help.
I have migrated my site to a new host, with a temp domain name i.e., http://www.test1.com
The current site is still live on another host with the domain name http://www.perfecttest.com
The temp site is now ready to do live. but we want to use the domain perfecttest.com
a. What is the process to move the domain to the new host and to change the test1.com to be perfecttest.com.
I kneo that we need to change the domain perfecttest.com nameserver to point to the new host but i am sure there must be more that need to be done inorder to not have issues.
Your help will be grateful

I had to do the same stuff with a lot of sites when I moved from cheap *ss hosting to a hosting provider located here in Belgium with all of my client sites and this is what I did:
- Add the domain to your new hosting provider and set up a hosting account for this domain. The site won't be live under this domain name, but contact your hosting provider to check where you can access the site and FTP with a temporary link.
- install WP, theme & plugins- export content on the live site using the Wordpress export, if possible export theme settings as well
- import the content on the new wordpress install you did on the new hosting provider
- change domain name settings. You can change the nameservers, but if that's not an option you can always add an A-record to make sure traffic is going to new server.
I'm aware that it's time consuming, but you don't have to get your hands dirty on PHPMyAdmin and this way the sites had zero downtime.

Hi guys thank you for your messages.
The migration has been done, the 301 redirects has been done (because half of the site was built in Django, so we had to manually move the content to wordpress.
So the site is running lovely but on the temp domain.
I hope there is a method where we can change the url to the new domain or am i just been silly?

Hi there
Just piggy backing on SMG here - if anything about the site is changing during this migration (URLs, structure, content, etc), make sure you go through this guide to make sure your bases are covered.
Hope this helps a bit as well - good luck!

Hi,
You need to make an account for http://www.perfecttest.com on your new server
Set that up with your new wordpress, ensuring your wordpress URL in the settings is http://www.perfecttest.com
Then you need to point your nameservers yes. Here's a comprehensive looking walkthrough from the wordpress forums

Deleted/Merged Content on Site Migration
Hey Moz Community! Looking for some input on a site migration. When redirecting some old pages that aren't going to be moved over to the new site, do you prefer to redirect to a homepage (or similar page) or to throw up a 404/410 on the new site? What have you found works best?

Wordpress Woocomerce Recommended SEO URL structure
Hi Mozzers ! Thanks for looking. I have a new shop in development (http://www.vintageheirloom.biz), I'm now using WordPress & Woocommerce. I've asked Woocommerce whether it is possible to remove the 'shop' and 'product-category' categories. They say it is, but it isn't recommended, it can slow site speed & create possible duplicate pages. I'm wondering what seasoned SEO experts opinions are on my particular structure? I've heard that a flat structure is recommended, but ecommerce shops as I understand pose their own issues, so any feedback would be appreciated.. Here's some URL examples: http://vintageheirloom.biz/shop/bags/ - this for the category bags http://vintageheirloom.biz/product-category/bags/shoulder-bags/ - this for shoulder bags a child of bags category http://vintageheirloom.biz/shop/2-55-bags/vintage-chanel-caviar-skin-2-55-bag/ - a product The last URL contains the category 2-55 bags. The products name also includes the phrases 2-55 bag. Should this level of repetition be avoided or is it best to keep the whole phrase 'vintage-chanel-caviar-skin-2-55-bag/' for SEO purposes? Thanks for any help you can give me around this issue! Kevin

Will sitemap generated in Yoast for a combined wordpress/magento site map entire site ?
Hi For an ecommerce site thats been developed via a combination of wordpress and magento and has yoast installed, will the sitemap (& other yoast features) map (& apply to) the entire site or just wordpress aspects ? In other words does one need to do anything else to have a full sitemap for a combined magento/wordpress site or will Yoast cover it all ? This link seems to suggest should be fine but seeing if anyone else encountered this and had problems or if straightforward ? http://fishpig.co.uk/wordpress-integration/docs/plugins.html cheers dan

Wordpress categories causing too many links/duplicate content?
I've just added categories to my wordpress site and some of the posts show in several of the categories. Will this cause me duplicate content problems as I want the category pages to be indexed? Also as I add more categories I'm creating more links on the page. They can't be seen to the user as I have a plugin that creates drop down categories. When I go to 'view source' though all the links are there so google will see lots of links. How can I fix the too many links problem? And should I worry about duplicate content issue?

No follow and do follow on wordpress
I am in the process of building a new wordpress site to replace my old static HTML site and I am now doing SEO on it. With my old site the default was do follow and I could easily change the HTML to no follow but on my wordpress site the default is no follow and I cannot seem to find a way to change parts to do follow. Tried a plugin but it does not deal with the home page at all and when I select do follow my SEO tools still highlight the links as no follow. A bit stumped on this one. Anyone have any experience with this? thanks
