Why am I not ranking although my domain authority is higher than competitors with same relevancy?
-
So I am trying to rank the domain http://jamesriver.org for the term "Churches in Springfield, MO" Not sure why we are not ranking as well as we ought to rank. I have a few assumptions, but wanted to see what other have to say to get better input.
Below are some details about the us:
- We have done a brand name change in the past 2 years - James River Assembly to James River Church
- We have two locations: Ozark, MO - which has been there for a very long time and Springfield, MO which is a newer campus
- We have higher domain authority than others that rank higher for the term
- We have a new website that was launch about 3 months ago
- We have a location page for each of the 2 campuses
I am wondering what factors might be at play in our lesser rankings even though we are relevant to the term and have higher authority than those that are ranking much higher than us.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi Steven,
As Miriam said, there are so many possible reasons at play here, but one point I would like to make:
- We have higher domain authority than others that rank higher for the term
Remember, that DA is a MOZ score and has absolutely no impact on where Google sees you or why someone someone else ranks higher than you.
- We have a new website that was launch about 3 months ago
Have you checked that all 301's and redirects are in place correctly? I am assuming this was a new site design on the existing domain?

Hi Steven,
Coincidentally, we have a very similar thread going on right now for a church in Texas:
https://moz.com/community/q/an-apparent-ranking-mystery
You might want to read that and see if it helps answer some or all of your questions.
There are hundreds of factors that contribute to local rankings, including things you can't control like the age of a site or the user-as-centroid phenomenon. What you can have more control over are:
-
Website quality, usability and optimization
-
Citation consistency and growth
-
Review acquisition
-
Social marketing
In auditing your client's site and comparing it with his closest competitors, be sure you are really considering your most important terms. As has been highlighted in the other thread I've linked to, a term like Churches is really generic. To me (and other responders on that thread) it seems much more relevant to rank for the specific type of church (Baptist, Catholic, etc.)
Hope you'll pop over there and read the discussion. I think you'll find it relevant.

I want to rank a national home page for a local keyword phrase
Hello - We are a nationally available brand based in Denver, CO. Our home page currently ranks #8 (used to be 5) for "real estate photography in Denver" -- I want to improve this ranking, but our home page is generalized and not geared toward Denver, CO but to all of our markets. I'm trying to troubleshoot this and have a few ideas.... I would love advice on the best route, or a different route altogether: Create a Denver-specific page -- _will that page compete with my home page that is already ranked in the top ten? _ Add the keyword phrase in the image alt attribute Add keyword phrase into the content - need to make sure that viewers realize we are national I already updated the meta description to say "real estate photography in Denver and beyond"

Multiple Domains for Real Estate
Hi, We have 10 different website for our apartments. I am thinking about consolidating them all into 1 website. Is this a good or bad idea? I think it would be good as we would get all the authority for the 1 domain so it would be easier to get new apartments ranked but I am not too sure. I am trying to optimize for local SEO. I am pretty sure that consolidating them is the best option but I would like to be certain about it before we make the investment.

Why My Site is Ranked for Few Hours on Daily Basis in Google SERPs
We have observed Google is shuffling our ranking on daily basis for our website: www.strokesexhibits.com, which is annoying. Almost on daily basis, in evening hours we are in ranking against almost every keyword for few hours (roughly 6-12 hours) but in the morning hours we are back to 50+ to 100+ positions. This is not happening with our domain only but facing same issue with the Google plus pages and few articles which we have on some high authority sites are behaving in same way. For better understanding, please have a look on following stats (Evening Screenshots were recorded yesterday after 8:00 PM, Morning screenshots were recorded after 9.30 AM - GMT +4 Time Zone). all following results are related with google.ae Keyword: Exhibition Stand Evening: 2 Google plus posts are in ranking + One main website page is ranking. Position 2: http://screencast.com/t/Yf2SLQNRJEm Position 4, 6: http://screencast.com/t/sDs2nShaAGr2 Morning: Google Plus pages disappeared + Different main website page is in ranking in back pages. I have a client where google is ranking the homepage for a term that I want a specific landing page to rank for. The landing page is filled with great keyword focused content, gets a perfect score on the moz keyword target grader. And the home page is not even about the keyword it is ranking for. Any advice on how to get google to stop ranking the wrong page?
