International Traffic on Analytics - Is this normal?
-
Hi All,
One of our clients has asked why they are getting so much traffic from international countries when they solely operate in the UK.
See attached image for % of customers who are visiting our site from different countries.
Is this a normal ratio of traffic when we are only targeting UK customers?
Thanks
-
Not that I know of!
I think our customer is just a bit cautious that they aren't getting relevant traffic to their site.
I can't see why Google would think our website is relevant to anyone outside of the UK but I am finding it hard to see what search terms international visitors would be using. Any tips on this?
-
You just might be that good:)
Do you have any Intl/global clients?
-
Thanks, at first I thought it was spam but looking at the source that the international traffic is coming from most of it is coming from Google which makes me think there isn't much we can do about it.
The site isn't optimised for local listings as such as it is a service available across the whole of the UK but I don't see why we would be appearing in any search results from other countries.
I have heard that some people may use IP address reverting so that it looks like their IP address may be coming from somewhere else in the world. Is it that popular that a fair amount of people are using it to visit our site?

Referrer Spam has been on the rise lately. See if this helps:

Thanks Christian,
IP Address is UK based.
Company is a Service provider rather than an e-commerce
I'll check into the audit and try to narrow it down via traffic sources etc.Regards
Dave

Hmm, that does seem a bit odd. I am surprised that your % of traffic from the UK is not higher.
Few Q's-
- is your IP address located in the UK?
- also, you might want to run an audit to find out where this traffic is actually coming from (legit traffic or spam).
- is your site a service or e-commerce?
my initial 2 cents and hope this helps.

Strange Traffic Movements
Hi there, I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this... I'm working with a client whose website is experiencing some odd organic traffic patterns. See screenshot attached. As you can see, there was a sudden cliff fall about a month ago, and then it recovered (almost) entirely. Then, a month to the day later, the same thing happened again. What is the likelihood that this is a data glitch vs an algorithm thing? Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated. Thanks,

HUGE spike in Google Analytics Traffic
Hi there, I am witnessing a giant spike in my Google Analytics data (website: www.exchangecapital.com ) and I am completely stumped. My website usually gains roughly 15-20 visitors a day at most--and as of 11:10 am today my sessions for the day are up to 150. The traffic spike started on Friday at 132 sessions, Saturday at 261, Sunday at 247, etc. It's common that our sessions don't even hit the double digits over the weekends, so you can imagine my confusion. After trying to pin down some irregularities in geography, browser, and behavior, I'm still at a loss. I'm seeing a big spike in organic traffic (all not provided), as well as direct page visits, and I'm gaining traffic from US, Brazil, United Kingdom, Mexico, Spain, Malaysia, etc. etc--so not just one specific area. Is anyone else witnessing this in their data? Does anyone have any insight or ideas as to how I can look further into this? I am at a loss and any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Tool Recommendations for Traffic Estimations
Hi Mozzers, Would appreciate your input on a tool (free or paid) that provides accurate information on the volume of traffic (paid and organic) that a site is getting every month. It would be nice if the tool can also provide data on the pages with most traffic (and number) page wise for a website? Cheers, SEO5..

Strange traffic.
We are a norwegian bakeshop (sykkelkompaniet.no) and we have started getting a lot of direct traffic from Miami and Chico. Wondering why, and suspect that someone is trying to hack our system. Any suggestions? We have never been in Chico or in Miami... and we don't spend anything on marketing so far, furthermore we don't ship to the US. The traffic is about 800 unique hits a day.

Real-time monitoring of web traffic
I used Woopra for the past year to monitor real time traffic to my websites but they recently dropped support for the desktop app and replaced it with a web app. As best I can tell the web app does not have the real-time alerts and other features that made the desktop app very compelling for me. Perhaps I don't fully understand how to use the new web app, but I don't find it particularly useful. Are there any other tools that provide good real-time monitoring of websites. Best,

Paid search impact on Organic Search traffic - Is it in the positive side or negative side?
Recently came across an article stating that Paid search may affect traffic through Organic search. Did anyone have similar experience?

What is your traffic mix?
Read Rand's post on the blog about diversity in traffic source http://www.seomoz.org/blog/traffic-source-diversity-is-essential-for-successful-seo. I would be very interested to know from mozzers, how their experience has been with traffic share. While you answer, please be kind enough to share the following: 1. The niche of the website you wish to quote in your answer. 2. The means of promotion you use (SEO, Social Media, PPC, Display, Affiliate) 3. The reason you think you cited this example and do you think it has been a success or a failure or somewhere in the middle? Appreciate your time, thanks.
