Is my knowledge graph code wrong?
-
I inserted the Knowledge Graph code on our site last week and am still not seeing the knowledge graph in our search results. Is something incorrect with my code?
<script type="<a class="attribute-value">application/ld+json</a>"> { "@context" : "http://schema.org", "@type" : "Organization", "name" : "IssueTrak", "url" : "http://www.issuetrak.com/", "sameAs" : [ "http://www.facebook.com/issuetrak", "http://www.twitter.com/issuetrak", "http://plus.google.com/google.com/+Issuetrak"] } script>head> I suspect it is the alignment of the "{" and "}" but others in the company say that doesn't matter. Any other explanations for why the KG isn't showing in the results? Thanks I did test it with Google's Structured Data Testing Tool and got the "all's good."

Thank you IssueTrak,
Although we have been a member for a long time we just started being more active on the Q&A, more stars will come. Let us know how it works out.

Great information! Thanks VERB. How do I get you more stars for your rating?
-
Hi IssueTrak,
I do agree with Dr. Pete, anything done is merely a suggestion, I like to think of it as farming, you create the most ideal situation for your organic search results to grow but unexpected influences will cause you to change your approach and some of these unexpected influences will be beyond your control.
One thing I would mention that is a bit of a red flag for me is that your structured data offers no additional organizational info on the home page. So when the google bot crawls the home page they see you are trying to push the Name, Url and the social accounts, this could be considered a bit scammy. I would suggest expanding on the content and add a description, mailing address, etc anything to make it your info more robust. In addition explore the adding the schema for https://schema.org/SoftwareApplication since you folks seem to be a software application company.
The Knowledge Graph info is pulled from multiple avenues, if these suggestions for Schema changes don't start producing better results, start looking outside of the Schema, for an example submit a request for a Wikipedia entry to be written (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requested_articles/Business_and_economics/Companies)
I hope this helps,
VERB

Keep in mind that well-formatted structured data is only step one of (X), where Google defines X and X is always changing. Ok, I exaggerate a little, but the frustrating key point is that structured data is no guarantee that you will get enhanced results or any kind of Knowledge Graph entity. It's just a suggestion, and Google has to factor in a lot of other things. If the testing tool is giving you the green light, that's usually about the best you can hope for.
What kind of KG entity are you trying to produce, exactly (do you have a sample query with a competitor who has it)?

Hey
If it looks good to Google, and all markup is matched up, then you're set!
I double checked and got All Good!
Hope this helps - good luck!

Content too buried in source code?
Our team is working on a refresh/redesign and am wondering if there's a quantifiable way of determining how high our meta data, H1 and paragraph should be in the source code. Or even whether I should be concerned with that. Our navigation will likely have dozens of links (we're going to keep it to under 100), and this doesn't even factor in the design elements. I am concerned about the content being buried. Are these the kind of concerns I should be having? Is there a measurable way to avoid it?

What the Panda are we doing wrong?
Starting at June 8 of this year (the exact date of the Panda 3.7 update) the organic search engine traffic to our website dropped by about 30%. We're talking about a fairly new domain (about 8 months old) that has (or at least is suppost to have) pearly white SEO, and no outside parties have ever done any SEO for it. Organic search traffic was very stable in the weeks prior to June 8. Organic search visits have dropped pretty much across the board (due to dropped ranking at the SERPS, as reported by our SEOmoz campaign). The (not provided) keyword has dropped 25%, while traffic from keywords related to our core products (joomla templates) have dropped almost 50%. Knowing that June 8 saw a Panda update, I dug up some of the old Panda posts (never thought I'd need those for one of my own sites) to see what factors trigger a Panda hit. Based on the factors mentioned in this article at SEW, I'll briefly discuss what is going on at our website. Affiliate links and ad units Not a single affiliate link or ad unit can be found on our website. Low-quality or thin content Only 163 URLs from the www subdomain have been submitted in our sitemap, of which 152 are indexed. About 25 of those pages (the individual questions on our FAQ page) could in my opinion be characterized as 'thin content' pages. Canonicalization Every single page on our www subdomain has a rel="canonical". Given that the demo subdomain is based on Joomla, we have less control over those pages (and there will probably be some duplicate content issues there), but nothing more than any clean Joomla website would have. Site speed Our www subdomain receives a near-perfect 97/100 on YSlow, the demo subdomain scores a 83/100. Quality In the past months several popular resources (blogs, infographics) have been released that were well linked to by other (significant) players in our niche. Social signals Our site received about 25 +1's, several dozen (or more) tweets and a few Facebook Likes. Search result pages We don't have those. Questions: Can anybody spot potentially Panda-triggering issues on our website? I'm aware that our link profile isn't perfect (not very bad either), but to my knowledge Panda was/is an on-page driven algorithm update, right? We're also running a demo subdomain (click 'demo' in the menu), hosting there five full Joomla installations to showcase our products (just like virtually all other template providers do). This subdomain seems to also have taken a hit, but less than the www subdomain (about 15% decrease in organic search visits). Is it possible that the demo subdomain has triggered this issue (and if so, what changes would you advice)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Should WordPress themes be hard coded for better SEO?
In the interests of making my site faster I have recently come across the suggestion of removing unwanted PHP from my WooThemes WordPress theme. The suggestion is to hard code the choices I have made in the WordPress template to reduce on database calls. Has anyone actually done this to their WordPress theme before and seen any measurable results?

Meta description showing in source code but not being detected by SEO Moz or other tools?
Hello fellow SEO enthusiasts, Re www.appetise.com Our developers have added a meta description and I can see it when I right click on pages to 'view source' as follows : Example : BUT - using the on page seo assessment tool on SEO Moz (and also using other tools which assess title, description and keyword optimisation) - they are telling us that the meta description is not present. Please could someone suggest why? If we can get the meta description picked up - we will reach A Grade for our core pages! And this will make us feel good - and hopefully shine through in our results :-). Any help greatly appreciated.
