Is there a good website builder that can gain links?
-
I made the horrible mistake of using GoDaddy website builder and just found out that I have 3 homepages with a 302 temporary redirect on one of them. GoDaddy says I have only one homepage and no redirects which is not true as far as both Google Webmaster and Mozpro are concerned. I am not able to change anything structurally on the Godaddy site. Is there an economical alternative to having a website built that I can work with myself (with little knowledge) and that I can do some link building that will be effective.
Thank you, I will refrain from commenting on GoDaddy

Thanks everybody,
I decided to go with WordPress. Looks like I have a lot more learning to go again.

Hi Scott - it depends. You can use Google Search Console's preferred version (https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/44231?hl=en) to help them choose between www vs. non, but if there are other parameters or versions of the page, you really want a canonical tag or 301.
Given the limitations it sounds like GoDaddy is giving you around this stuff, I'd probably suggest moving to a different CMS/host. Better safe than sorry later.

Matt,
Thanks for the advise. What scared me the most was the 302 temporary redirect which according to my reading will not allow link juice pass to my homepage. It appears that that is gone now according to the Moz crawler. But I don't see any redirects at all and the 3 homepages are still showing up. At this point content will be my focus because I realize how important it is. I just want to make sure everything is right as I start.
Thanks again everybody,
Scott

Thank you Wizard,
I have done a lot of SeoMoz reading and I consider my SEO knowledge as just enough to be dangerous. I ran another crawl test and it appears that the 302 temporary redirect is now gone but there is no 301 permanent redirect and according to the On Page Grader there are no Canonical tags. Also, Google is not showing duplicate titles or metatags anymore. GoDaddy will not allow me to access or change any code. Can I tell Google to disregard all other pages except for my main homepage to avoid duplicate pages or do I need to? Sorry for being paranoid, I don't want to make a dumb mistake that I can't change years from now without starting over.

Hi Scott - some website builders that might be worth investigation (and will almost definitely be more SEO-friendly than the experience you've described) include:
I'm partial to Wordpress (and there's lots of good hosting options) because of its flexibility, but there's plenty of benefits to other platforms as well.

Thank you for responding so quickly,
We are starting a business assisting expats in obtaining retirement visas in Ecuador, so it doesn't need to be a complex site. Actually the simpler the better. What I am concerned about is according to MozPro I have 3 separate homepages. http://www.ecuadorvisapros.com redirected to http://www.ecuadorvisapros.com/ with a 302 temporary redirect and another homepage called http://www.ecuadorvisapros.com/home.html with no redirect, as far as I can tell. Go daddy tells me that I only have one homepage http://www.ecuadorvisapros.com/home.html and there is no way to change anything. Google Webmaster tells me I have duplicate content and duplicate title pages. It seems like the 302 temporary redirect and the two identical pages will kill any change of links coming to my homepage helping my rankings. I have no rankings for my homepage and several internal pages that have decent ranks. I am concerned about putting money into a link outreach campaign. Sorry for the long post.

Hi Scott,
Really, you can build links with any site, as long as you've got great content that people find useful. So you can really be set there no matter which builder you use. I'd recommend reading through the Beginner's Guide to Link Building if you haven't.
As for which builder to use, it really depends on the purpose of your site. What sort of site are you building? Blog? Ecommerce? Straight information?

Links from Directory Websites with NoFollow Tag
In reviewing our root domain links, I noticed that many of the directories (like Yellow Pages, Insider Pages, Merchant Circle, etc) that there are no follow codes included in the link to our website. Is this a common practice for these directories? Also, I wanted to confirm that this would not help in our link building strategies with any relevant "link juice." Below is a copy and pasted (with some extra characters that shouldn't have copy and pasted), but the key note here is the no follow tag that was included in this link to our site. Visit Website Thanks as always MOZ Community - cheers!

Poor Blog and Website DA and links
Hi There We have a mature website and a mature blog with over 500 genuine blogs written on it over 4 years. In terms of actual "people" value it has to be high. We used to get 1000 visitors per day, we now get 300. We still have 850 subscribers so its of a certain size. However we have been hit by the Penguin/Panda updates and our DA has dropped to what everyone is telling us is too low for a site like this and we still have a google backlink problem, unyet we only have 190 external links that we think are all OK now. The problem we have is that we seem to have too many links from the blog to the main website with the same anchor text. This has occurred with a blogroll style link to the home page which appears on every post/page of the blog, also I think we have too many anchor same anchor text links to product pages (Motorola ES400) and category pages (Tablet PC). We're going through changing these now so that we have the right mix but the specific questions I wanted to ask were: 1. Will loads of links with the same anchor text affect us if the blog is counted as internal links. Its on the same "blog" sub-domain as the main website. 2. Will this affect the DA of both sites? 3. Is Wordpress capable of damaging us with all the extra pages it creates automatically. We've done nothing but genuine content posting here and i'm sure we can get it back but it kind of really demotivates you when 2/3rds of your traffic goes overnight. Many thanks for any help.

Internal linking anchor text with automated ASP.NET link building
Hi Everyone I really need some help here, the problem I have must be one that many have. I have a simple e-commerce style website so 1 product page can in fact get 40-50 internal links to it. These links come from a mixture of: 1. The parent category pages that the product sits on (Rugged PDA) and in turn the 10 filter pages of this category page (Rugged PDA, ordered by battery size). 2. Alternative product list on other product pages, So many products link to each other as alternatives. From Google analytics we can see that visitors like to browse product to product seeing 5 alternatives on each page with titles like "Smaller", "more rugged" etc. 3. Manufactuer pages, so we have a link to each product from each manufacturer home page where we talk lots about each manufacture we resell. We also have links from images used in the website. So its a nice usable website but we're finding that Google is still telling us in Webmaster tools that it thinks some links are dubious and we're trying to find out why. We only now have 190 external links to the website, most are internal and from the website or our blog on a subdomain. The problem we think is that we generate the category and products pages all dynamically so the anchor text is looking the same. Will this potentially create issues for us? Dave

Where can I find a list of the top DA websites on the web?
I'd like to find a ranking of the top DA websites on the web. I'm mostly interested in US websites. I'd like at least the top 10,000 or so but the more the better. Is there a way to get this data from OpenSiteExplorer or another source? The closest I've found is Double Click's listing of the top 1000 most_visited_ (not DA) websites: http://www.google.com/adplanner/static/top1000/ Thanks!

Hi guys, I have just done a lot of link buillding and I thought I am just going to link build and I am not going to go after RELVANT links. I have property/real esate website and I have been any kind of link builidng and I have noteced some good increases in rankings.. So my questions is; Does it really matter if the link is relvant to property or real estate if I have got ranking increases? Or will it later harm my site?? Thanks Gareth

New ways to get links (excluding on site link bait)?
Fellow SEOs, I’m looking for a new way to reach out to bloggers and site owners for links. There are quite a few link bait techniques to lure bloggers thanks to = amazing content, infographics,...but there are not so many articles on ways to contact bloggers/webmasters and ask for links... We all know that contacting site owners directly and politely asking then to place a link on their home page is as useful as a comb in Bruce willis’s hand. Link exchange is as dead as the Dodo and business partner links are usefull and easier to get but opportunities are often limited. I have been organizing contests for bloggers recently and it has been quite successful up to now, but I always like to have a spare trick up my sleeve. So if any of you have a decent method to reach out to bloggers/webmaster and get decent links please let me know, I will be forever thankful ; ) Cheers
