URL disappeared from the search results
-
Hey folks,
A URL on my webpage that has been climbing in search results ever since has suddenly completely disapeared from the search results and i'm absolutely stuck - no idea what the reason might be.
It was ranked #11 for the targeted keyword, than it slightly started dropping down to #14 and #17 after which it completely disappeared, not only for specific targeted keyword, but also for exact name of the product. The URL has vanished from search results.
I looked in search console, no particular errors or messages from Google.
The only case I might come with is that many URLs are cannonicaly linked to the URL in matter, but i don't assume this might be the case.
Does anyone have a suggestion what might the reason why the URL has completely vanished from the search results? Thank you a lot.
The URL: http://chemometec.com/cell-counters/cell-counter-nc-200-nucleocounter/
Targeted keyword: 'cell counter'
-
Correct, the "end of chain" is what you want to rank.
-
But, what is your experience, should i expect my 'end of the chain' to return back on search results? Or is it better strategy to go for another page to rank, in this case <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://chemometec.com/journal/nucleocounter-nc-200-the-most-precise-cell-counter/?</a>
-
'Inspect element' - sorry for asking and thank you very much for the help.
-
It's magical tool of "View source code" on a page
Ctrl+U in most browsers. Or right click - view source.
-
Yoast automatically creates canonical links to itself, unless you specify otherwise or "teach" Yoast to behave otherwise.
-
If I may ask how you are able to see which URLs have canonical links on my site? Which tool are you using?
-
Hi Dimitri,
Thanks again for taking time to help.
'The end of the chain' is http://chemometec.com/cell-counters/cell-counter-nc-200-nucleocounter/
And that is the only page that should rank. I have changed it so that other two links are canonically pointing to the 'end of the chain'. The confusion was because the 'end of chain' after being #11 has disappeared from SERP, which i don't understand why. Maybe keyword stuffing(!?) - i will try to reduce keywords ('cell counter') on the page.
Should continue to keep 'end of the chain' as it is and hope it will come back to SERP or should i use different strategy and use the landing page <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://chemometec.com/journal/nucleocounter-nc-200-the-most-precise-cell-counter/</a> as the 'end of the chain' which is currently ranked high?
I still don't understand how it is possible that i have pages canonically linking to itself (!?) I havn't done it. Can it be possible that Yoast SEO is doing that?
Thanks in advance. You are really helping here.
-
Hi, sorry, I must have saw something what didn't exist. So, don't mind what I said about that. However, if I go to http://chemometec.com/product/nucleocounter-nc-200/ it has canonical to http://chemometec.com/cell-counters/cell-counter-nc-200-nucleocounter/ which, in turn, has canonical to http://chemometec.com/journal/nucleocounter-nc-200-the-most-precise-cell-counter/ which does have canonical to itself, meaning that canonical link tag points to http://chemometec.com/journal/nucleocounter-nc-200-the-most-precise-cell-counter/
Why to have this type of chain canonicals and also self-canonicals? I think it'd be better to canonicalize to the "end of chain", and for that "end of chain" don't have a canonical whatsoever.
-
Hello Dmitri,
Thank you very much for detailed review on my issue, i appreciate it a lot.
How do you mean all pages have canonical links to itself? It is the first time i hear that a link have a canonical to itself (!?) I am using Yoast SEO plugin, that is how i manage my canonical links. Only canonical links i have are manually added pointing to the URLs i want to rank.
Thank you!

Hi there.
I played with keyphrases, positions etc and what's happening is that your index page is optimized better for those keyphrases than the page itself. Also I have noticed that the product page looks keyword stuffed like Thanksgiving turkey. Maybe that's the issue?
Also all pages have canonical links to itself. You have http://chemometec.com/product/nucleocounter-nc-200/ and http://chemometec.com/cell-counters/cell-counter-nc-200-nucleocounter/ but both have canonicals to itself. Competing with each other maybe?
Also I noticed that i get absolutely different SERs for "NucleoCounter NC-200" and "NucleoCounter NC200". In first case you don't rank, or at least not the product pages.
Make sure that you have internal linking with proper keywords, all your canonicals are in order and there is no overstuffing. At the same time use some phrases without trademark or rights marks. All this might be issues.
As for your phrase - your index page is coming up on second page, which means, again, it's more optimized (or may be not overoptimized
in comparison with a product page.
Anyway, I'd look into canonicals first, then into page optimizations.

The purpose of these Algo updates: To more harshly push eCommerce sites toward PPC and enable normal blogs/forums toward reclaiming organic search positions?
Hi everyone, This is my first post here, and absolutely loving the site and the services. Just a quick background, I have dabbled in SEO in the past, and have been reading up over the last few months and am amazed at the speed at which things are changing. I currently have a few clients that I am doing some SEO work for 2 of them, and have had an ecommerce site enquire about SEO services. They are a medium sized oak furniture ecommerce site. From all the major changes..the devaluing of spam links, link networks, penalization of overuse of exact match anchor text and the overall encouraging of earned links (often via content marketing) over built links, adding to this the (not provided) section in Google Analytics, and the increasing screen real estate that PPC is getting over organic search...all points to me thinking on major thing..... That the search engine is trying to push eCommerce sites and sites that sell stuff harder toward using PPC and paid advertising and allowing the blogs/forums and informational sites to more easily reclaim the organic part of the search results again. The above is elaborated on a bit more below.. POINT 1 Firstly as built links (article submission, press releases, info graphic submission, web 2.0 link building ect) rapidly lose their effectiveness, and as Google starts to place more emphasis on sites earning links instead - by producing amazing interesting and unique content that people want to link to. The fact remains that surely Google is aware that it is much harder for eCommerce sites to produce a constant stream of interesting link worthy content around their niche (especially if its a niche that not an awful lot could be written about). Although earning links is not impossible for eCommerce sites, for a lot of them it is more difficult because creating link worthy content is not what eCommerce sites were originally intended for. Whereas standard blogs and forums were built for that exact purpose. Therefore the search engines must know that it is a lot easier for normal blogs/forums to "earn" links through content, therefore leading to them reclaiming more of the organic search ranking for transaction and non transaction terms, and therefore forcing the eCommerce sites to adopt PPC more heavily. POINT 2 If we add to the mix the fact that for the terms most relevant to eCommerce sites, the search engine results page has a larger allocation of PPC ads than organic results (above the fold), and that Google has limited the amount of data that sites can see in terms of which keywords people are using to arrive on their sites, which effects eCommerce sites more - as it makes it harder for them to see which keywords are resulting in sales. Then this provides further evidence that Google is trying to back eCommerce sites into a corner by making it more difficult for them to make sense of and track sales from organic results in comparison to with PPC, where data is still plentiful. Conclusion Are the above just over exaggerations? Can most eCommerce sites still keep achieving a good percentage of sales from organic search despite the above? if so, what do the more niche eCommerce sites do to "earn" links when content topics are thin and unique outreach destinations can be exhausted quickly. Do they accept the fact that the are in the business of selling things, so should be paying for their traffic as opposed to normal blogs/forums which are not. Or is there still a place for them to get even more creative with content and acquire earned links..? And finally, is the concentration on earned links more overplayed than it actually is? Id really appreciate your thoughts on this..

How long we can keep 302 redirection for a webpage url?
Hi Friends, I have a webpage featuring a product. I have created a new domain featuring the same product and the page is under construction. I am planning to do 302 redirection from the new domain to the existing domain for the time being. How long can I keep the 302 redirection from the new domain to existing domain? Is there any fixed time period/ duration that we can keep the 302 redirection for a webpage? I am planning to make few more pages (privacy policy, about us, etc) from the new domain 302 redirected to the existing domain. Is it possible? If so, how long can I keep the same? May I know which redirect is safe to use in this case, 302 or 301 redirect?

Why do websites use different URLS for mobile and desktop
Although Google and Bing have recommended that the same URL be used for serving desktop and mobile websites, portals like airbnb are using different URLS to serve mobile and web users. Does anyone know why this is being done even though it is not GOOD for SEO?

EMD with 3.3million broad match searches got hit hard by Panda/Penguin
k, so I run an ecommerce website with a kick ass domain name. 1 keyword (plural)
White Hat / Black Hat SEO | | SwissNinja
3.3 million broad match searches (local monthly)
3.2 million phrase match
100k exact match beginning of march I got a warning in GWT about unnatural links. I feel pretty certain its a result of an ex-employee using an ALN listing service to drip spun article links on splogs. This was done also for another site of mine, which received the same warning, except bounced back much sooner (from #3 for EMD w/ 100k broad, 60k phrase and 12k exact, singular keyword phrase) I did file reinclusion on the 2nd (smaller) domain. Received unnatural warning on 4/13 and sent reconsideration on 5/1 (tune of letter is "I have no clue what is up, I paid someone $50 and now Im banned) As of this morning, I am not ranking for any of my terms (had boucned back on main keyword to spot #30 after being pushed down from #4) now back to the interesting site....
this other domain was bouncing between 8-12 for main keyword (EMD) before we used ALN.
Once we got warning, we did nothing. Once rankings started to fall,we filed reinclusion request...rankings fell more, and filed another more robustly written request (got denials within 1 week after each request)until about 20 days ago when we fell off of the face of the earth. 1- should I take this as some sort of sandbox? We are still indexed, and are #1 for a search on our domain name. Also still #1 in bing (big deal) 2- I've done a detailed analysis of every link they provide in GWT. reached out to whatever splog people I could get in touch with asking them to remove articles. I was going to file another request if I didn't reappear after 31 days after I fell off completely. Am I wasting my time? there is no doubt that sabatoge could be committed by competition by blasting them with spam links (previously I believed these would just be ignored by google to prevent sabatoge from becoming part of the job for most SEOs) Laugh at me, gasp in horror with me, or offer some advice... I'm open to chat and would love someone to tell me about a legit solution to this prob if they got one thanks!0 -
How does Google rank a websites search queries
Hello, I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. I was wondering how a websites search query keyword string url can rank above other page results that have stronger backlinks. The domain is usually strong, but that url with the .php?search=keyword just seems like it doesn't fit in. How does Google index those search string pages? Is it based off of traffic alone to that url? Because those urls typically don't have backlinks, right? Has anyone tried to rank their websites search query urls ever? I'm just a little curious about it. Thanks everyone. Jesse
