Index problems, Part 2
-
Hi Guy's
A few weeks ago i posted a question:
https://moz.com/community/q/index-problemsAfter some good advice, we changed a few things:
- www.domain.com <<< NL version
- www.domain.com/fr/ <<<< French version
(domain.com/nl/ 301 redirect to domain.com).
So the SERPS for keyword ‘shutters’ went from #32 to #8...... for 2 day's.... and gone.... and not comming back anymore....
Did we missed something?
Help is much appreciated, thanks

Andy & Dirk make Great answer my advice would be to get rid of the 301's by re writing your URLs to become a 200"s that was mentioned ablove & to crunch the side of your images there definitely on your siYe download the entire site or image folder then go to JPEGmini either purchase the vision for you or upload to their site to shrink images.

Cloudflare's paid model alto has a fantastic image size reduction and will speed up your site.
If you'd like to I will use the domain & run deep crawl for you along screaming frog and URL profiler.
Make sure that you are not hurt by bad site architecture.
All ll the best,
tom

@ Andy Drinkwater We will investigate the points you mentioned...
@ Arnout Hellemans We are going to check Webmaster console
@ Dirk Ceuppens We noticed the drop because we make use of serpfox.com, a daily SERP checker. Thanks for the advice and we will investigate this also.
For now i'm going to check all the points and give an update asap.
Thanks!

Hi,
How did you notice the drop in rankings - is this info coming from webmaster tools or some external tracking system? I just search for the keyword shutters (google.be/ from Brussels) and your site is still ranked in 3rd position (Dutch) - 1st position FR.
Did you see a significant drop in traffic to these pages in Analytics?
By the way - not sure if shutters is the best word to describe the product you are selling (French version) - the word "volets intérieurs" seems to be a better word.
Probably not related to the current issues - but you might want to check the size of the images on your homepage (and speed optimisation in general: http://www.webpagetest.org/result/150922_6W_RT4/1/details/) - also check pagespeed insights from Google.
Please also take into account that with the current organisation of your content you push the FR version 1 level deeper than the NL content.
You also might want to take a look at the internal redirects on your site - you redirect all url's to have the trailing slash which is ok - but you should also update your internal links accordingly.
rgds,
Dirk

Have you checked Google Webmaster Console?
-
It sounds like there were some big changes on the site, so I would guess that the sudden jump and then subsequent loss might be Google deciding where it should be indexed. Has it been removed from the SERPs altogether or just dropped down to a lower position?
It wouldn't strike me as being anything else, but things to check...
- Use Screaming Frog to do a crawl of your site and see if there are any glaring errors.
- Use DeepCrawl to do the same and see if there are any additional issues found
- Check all redirects are correctly implemented
- Check to make sure there is no page duplication / keyword cannibalisation going on
- Are all canonical elements in place?
- Has anything been blocked in Robots.txt?
- Does the .htaccess file contain code that doesn't resolve redirections correctly?

Index bloating issue
Hello, In the last month, I noticed a huge spike in the number of pages indexed on my site, which I think is impacting my SEO quality score. While I've only have about 90 pages on my site map, the number of pages indexed jumped to 446, with about 536 pages being blocked by robots. At first we thought this might be due to duplicate product pages showing up in different categories on my site, but we added something to our robot.txt file to not index those pages. But the number has not gone down. I've tried to consult with our hosting vendor, but no one seems to be concerned or have any idea why there was such a big jump in the last month. Any insights or pointers would be so greatly appreciated, so that I can fix/improve my SEO as quickly as possible! Thanks!

Sitemap indexation
3 days ago I sent in a new sitemap for a new platform. Its 23.412 pages but until now its only 4 pages (!!) that are indexed according to the Webmaster Tools. Why so few? Our stage-enviroment got indexed (more than 50K pages) in a few days by a mistake.

Help! Pages not being indexed
Hi Mozzers, I need your help.
Technical SEO | | bshanahan
Our website (www.barnettcapitaladvisors.com) stopped being indexed in search engines following a round of major changes to URLs and content. There were a number of dead links for a few days before 301 redirects were properly put in place. And now, only 3 pages show up in bing when I do the search "site:barnettcapitaladvisors.com". A bunch of pages show up in Google for that search, but they're not any of the pages we want to show up. Our home page and most important services pages are nowhere in search results. What's going on here?
Our sitemap is at http://www.barnettcapitaladvisors.com/sites/default/files/users/AndrewCarrillo/sitemap/sitemap.xml
Robots.txt is at: http://www.barnettcapitaladvisors.com/robots.txt Thanks!0 -
Expert Indexation challenge!
We have a major and strange indexation problem on our site for several languages for a while now. If I type in the search query "langsom computer" ("slow pc" in Danish) it used to display the page (www.spamfighter.com/SLOW-PCfighter/Lang_DA/) in the top 3. Now it displays this site instead as result #11 which is an entirely different product: http://www.spamfighter.com/VIRUSfighter/Lang_DA/ The same happens for some other languages. The French search: "Optimisez votre PC trop lent avec une meilleure performance" (Optimize your slow PC for better performance) displays: http://www.spamfighter.com/VIRUSfighter/Lang_FR/ which has nothing in common with the search and the page intended: http://www.spamfighter.com/SLOW-PCfighter/Lang_FR/ Anyone have ANY idea what this could be?

http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk/office-to-let-leeds/ 1st Question Ive checked robots txt file no problems, i'm in the midst of updating the xml sitemap (it had the old one in place). It only has one link from this page http://www.sandersonweatherall.co.uk/Site-Map/ So is the reason oits not being indexed just a simple case of lack if SEO juice from inbound links so the remedy lies in routing more inbound links to the offending page? 2nd question Is the quickest way to diagnose if a web address is not being indexed to cut and paste the url in the Google search box and if it doesnt return the page theres a problem? Thanks in advance, David0 -

Bing indexing
Hello, people~ I want to discuss about Bing indexation. I have a new web site which opened about 3 months ago. Google has no problem to index my site and all pages within the site indexed by Google. However, Bing and Yahoo is different story. I used manual submission, Bing webmaster tool to let Bing know about the site. However, Bing is not indexing my site yet. I researched about it and found that my site should have some external links before I get index by Bing. I check external links of my site with Google webmaster tool, SEOmoz tool and "link:" on Google. All tools show different number as below. Google webmaster Tool : more than 50 SEMoz site explorer : 5 link: on Google: none Why all method of checking links are different and which on should most depend on? Also how many links should I have in order to get index by Bing? Could you people please share your opinion?
