Does Google take notice of nofollow links?
-
Does Google take any notice of nofollow links, they seem to count for something but don't know how much.
Any experience? -
Cyrus Shepard went into some of the value of nofollows on a Whiteboard Friday in the past year or two. There was a fair amount of discussion about it in the comments. Scroll through those and you should get a decent idea of how everybody thinks about them.
Think about it this way: Google isn't giving you any value from the link, but they still use it for crawling, and they also value all kinds of on-page signals beyond just links. So there can be value to the signals around a link even if the link itself passes no value. And there can be value to a link even if there is no ranking value to it—though I think the whole "referral traffic" thing is wildly overblown, never seen anybody get more than like 4 visits from a comment. But they can help you build communities/relationships online.
Plus there's all kinds of things like co-occurrence that Google uses that I suppose, hypothetically, could possibly be a benefit from nofollow links in the right context, even non-editorial links. Check Bill Slawski's blog for more on that!

Nofollow links were created to keep people from gaming the system. Google doesn't give you credit for nofollow links, but it's still a great way of getting referral traffic as well as having a well balanced and natural looking link profile. As long as a link is relevant to you/your business, it can still be worth it.

It is enjoyable when you can go straight to the source. Hope that assists.

Nofollow links do not contribute to any ranking value for the majority of search engines, such as Google and Bing. You could have a nofollow link on Wikipedia or even Google's homepage but that link won't count when it comes to increasing your rankings. However. that does not imply that the link is not valuable!

Can Google bypass an AJAX link?
On my company's events calendar page when you click an event, it populates and overlay using AJAX, and then the link that is populated in that overlay then takes you to the actual events page. I see this as a problem with Google because it can't follow the AJAX link to the true event page, so right now nothing on those pages is getting indexed and we can't utilize our schema to get events to populate in the Google rich snippets or the knowledge graph. Possible solutions I considered: 1. Remove the AJAX overlay and allow the link from the events calendar to go directly to the individual event. 2. Leave the AJAX overlay and try to get the individual event pages directly indexed in Google. Thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Cleaning up user generated nofollow broken links in content.
We have a question/answer section on our website, so it's user generated content. We've programmed all user generated links to be nofollow. Over time... we now have many broken links and some are even structurally invalid. Ex. 'http:///.'. I'm wanting to go in and clean up the links to improve user experience, but how do I justify it from an SEO standpoint and is it worth it?

How long does google take to show the results in SERP once the pages are indexed ?
Hi...I am a newbie & trying to optimize the website www.peprismine.com. I have 3 questions - A little background about this : Initially, close to 150 pages were indexed by google. However, we decided to remove close to 100 URLs (as they were quite similar). After the changes, we submitted the NEW sitemap (with close to 50 pages) & google has indexed those URLs in sitemap. 1. My pages were indexed by google few days back. How long does google take to display the URL in SERP once the pages get indexed ? 2. Does google give more preference to websites with more number of pages than those with lesser number of pages to display results in SERP (I have just 50 pages). Does the NUMBER of pages really matter ? 3. Does removal / change of URLs have any negative effect on ranking ? (Many of these URLs were not shown on the 1st page) An answer from SEO experts will be highly appreciated. Thnx !

Clickable links in Google SERP
Hi, I came across clickable links appearing below the meta description in Google SERP. The links are not necessarily the top pages for that particular domain and sometimes tend to reflect the newly added stock. Is there a way to determine what factors account for this? Thanks, mryxN.png

Google+ Personal Page pass link juice?
I noticed recently that a clients google plus business page (Set up as a personal page) has a followed link pointing to their site. They have many links on the web pointing to the google+ page, however that page is an https page. So the question is, would a google+ page that is https still pass authority and link juice to the site linked in the about us tab?

Not ranking on Bing but is on Google?
Hi What are the main differences between Bing and Google in terms of ranking sites? My site is ranking well in Google but in Bing it is very low down and does not deliver much traffic. In Bing webmaster tools there are no warning messages and I had sent in a sitemap back in 2011 and 77 pages are listed, but I had not submitted a URL could this be why my pages are not ranking highly? Or does anybody have a checklist on what a site should offer to get ranking on Bing?
