Googl travel dates
-
I have just noticed, while checking where our hotel clients rank for certain keywords, and noticed a panel on the left hand side called Travel dates. There was a check in and check out option which could be populated manually or by using a drop down calendar. But there's no submit button or anything like that. What is this panel for, and can any benefit be had from it, because from what I can see it doesn't actually do anything (unless it's not displaying properly on my computer?

Thanks for the link Keri. Apparently the feature has not been fully implemented as of yet.

This was a new product that launched in July. More information about the launch is available at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2389441,00.asp#fbid=3l_OuvCiiLd.

Is it possible your browser has a plug-in related to travel?
-
That's very odd then. When I get a mo, I'll do a screen grab so you can see what I'm seeing, but that may not be until Monday.
-
I tried the link you offered. The search works fine but I do not see any calendar. I tried in both FF and IE. I am not using any pop-up nor ad blocking software.
The left sidebar shows "Everything, Images, Videos, News, Shopping, More" then below that there is a "Search Near" box and a "The Web - pages from UK" widget. No calendar.
-
What if you paste this into the address bar?
-
I tried searching "hotels near henley" in both google.com and google.co.uk. I did not see a calendar for either search.
What exact tool are you using for your search? Google? Yahoo? Bing? Another search engine? Which country location is your search based on? .com? .co.uk? Something else?
-
Hi Ryan,
The option comes up when I search for 'hotels near henley', but I also didn't get it when looking for London hotels, which probably implies it's tied to certain searches that are more specific than just having hotel in them, which seems odd. You'd think if there was a use they for them, they would be in all travel-based enquiries?
-
Where exactly did you notice this calendar?
I tried searching "London hotels" in Google and did not see any calendar.

Sitelink (meta) descriptions in Google SERP
Hi, I am probably not the only one having this question regarding the quality of sitelinks in organic results. When your search returns sitelinks, I know the only thing you can do to avoid certain sitelinks to appear is to demote it for that search result. But what can you do about the description. For the main result you are pretty much able to create an appealing description, but when the sitelinks appear, all sitelinks display these crappy 'composed' descriptions. I've read Google did some tests a couple of years ago with multiple descriptions and multiple titles, but this doesn't cover the issue I just described. Is there a way to create 'sitelink descriptions'? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Google News query
Hi Moz community! I have a client who have been rejected for inclusion in Google's news results. This is their web site: www.irishracing.com they are not a gambling/gaming web site, but they do advertise gambling on the site, and I am thinking that this may be an issue for them. We asked Google and obviously got a generic 'see our guidelines' response, with no actual specific feedback. Any ideas anyone? Kind regards. Gavin

Google Places Citation Differences
Hi All... I know its important to get citations the same in terms of company name, address, phone number and URL but how dissimilar can they be before this causes problems with Google Places? One of my clients has citations with very minor differences to the correct address i.e.: 2a such and such a road when it should be: 2 such and such a road I cannot see duplicate listing for the company. Anyone got any ideas / experience of this? I don't want to suggest changing them all if its not nessasary? Cheers in advance. Justin
