Direct Traffic has Drastically Increased
-
Hi,
I have noticed in Google analytics that direct traffic of one of my website is increased drastically. I didn't participate in Email Marketing or any other paid campaigns however direct traffic is continuously increasing. I checked all sources, locations, browsers, filters etc but didn't get any findings.
Please help.

Hi Ruchi,
Take a look at this article that shows you how to add an exclude filter in GA that will exclude spam traffic from your reports: https://www.optimizesmart.com/geek-guide-removing-referrer-spam-google-analytics/
You can also set up a second filter to make sure that the traffic hitting your site is actually trying to access your host name as opposed to hitting your GA tracking code. Check out this article to see how to do that: https://www.distilled.net/resources/quick-fix-for-referral-spam-in-google-analytics/
We had a bunch of ghost spam and referer spam on our sites hit by free-share-buttons and free-social-buttons. These 2 filters knocked those numbers out of our reports. The crazy thing is trying to explain to your client that those visits are not real visits and that some aren't even hitting your server, they are just hitting your GA code. Once you put in these 2 filters you can see your true traffic. Keep an eye on your refer info to add new spam referers as they appear in your reports.
Once you see your true traffic, you will also get better metrics for your bounce rate and time on page etc...
Hope that helps! Message me if you need help setting up a filter.
Cheers!

Ok David.
Thanks for you time. Much appreciated.
-
That almost certainly indicates Spam to me, there isn't much more of an indication for Direct traffic.
I'd suggest applying the filter and seeing what happens over the next couple of days and if it is still happening would require further investigation.

Bounce Rate is 97.32% with 00:00:18 avg session duration.
-
What sort of bounce rate are you getting from the Direct Traffic?
-
Thanks for your respond. I have crosschecked and found no spam traffic. You can check the snapshot of the traffic.
-
If the bounce rate is incredibly high this could be a form of spam, it has been on the rise recently.
The way to filter it out of your analytics is to create an 'Include' filter.
You can read a MOZ blog post on it here with instructions on how to create the filter: https://moz.com/blog/stop-ghost-spam-in-google-analytics-with-one-filter
We have used it and it worked for us

Whats (Other) traffic in Google Analytics?
When I look through all our clients, a few are receiving the majority of their traffic from (other). [ Acquisition > Channels > (Other) ]. The only option in (other) is "website" or "offline", whatever that may be. And even weirder, the avg session duration is 0:00. Any idea what this may be?

Google Analytics reporting traffic for 404 pages
Hi guys, Unique issue with google analytics reporting for one of our sites. GA is reporting sessions for 404 pages (landing pages, organic traffic) e.g. for this page: http://www.milkandlove.com.au/breastfeeding-dresses/index.php the page is currently a 404 page but GA (see screenshot) is reporting organic traffic (to the landing page). Does anyone know any reasons why this is happening? Cheers. http://www.milkandlove.com.au/breastfeeding-dresses/index.php GK0zDzj.jpg

Google Analytics: How to Track Blog Traffic that Enter the Purchase Funnel?
I've been trying to figure this out for awhile, but I have had no luck. The current ecommerce store that I work for is trying to find out how to track how many people coming in via the blog are converting/buying. The site lives on Magento and the blog is on wordpress and they both use the same Google Analytics code. Site URL: http://website.com/ Blog URL: http://website.com/blog Is there anyway to do this so you can see which landing pages are driving conversions? If not, Is it possible to set up Google Analytics to show conversions and revenue coming from people who enter through blog directory?

Strange Traffic Spike In Google Analytics
Over the last two days I have seen a huge spike in the pageviews to my site www.learnbonds.com. Up to this point my average page views per visit has been less than 2. For the last couple of days it has jumped to 5 but the average time on the site has not increased. Upon further investigation under the browser and OS page of google analytics I found that traffic coming from internet explorer and IE with Chrome Frame is reporting 10+ pageviews per visit. Below is a screenshot. Any insight into what might be causing this and how to fix it that the community can provide would be appreciated. Thanks

Hour of the day that my analytics goals are being triggered within the all traffic report.
I am trying to identify the hour of the day that particular keywords (organic and PPC) are triggering my goals. Ideally I'd like to be able to use the all traffic report with the secondary dimension set as keyword. Hopefully I'm missing something simple, thanks all. Mark

Does traffic coming from Adwords increase overall Domain Authority or Page Rank?
If I'm setting up an Adwords campaign, will setting my homepage as the landing page boost my domain rank? and will the Page Rank of the landing page get boosted because of the high click rate coming from the Adwords campaign?

Tips for migrating Google News traffic?
We are about to relaunch a site that gets a lot of Google News traffic. We are not changing domain, but the site structure is changing greatly, with the URLs of both news index pages and articles being shaken up. Obviously, we've 301-ed every page to its closest equivalent on the new site. We've also got a news sitemap. As we are not changing domain, is there anything further we need to do to help protect our Google News traffic. On a related note, does anyone have a relaible way of measuring traffic from Google News listings in universal search?

If a site has 301 redirect - Will the Analytics of the target site show it as a referral or as the traffic source it came from?
Lets say I have a site www.abc.com and I rederect that site to www.xyz.com. If ABC.com is still ranking for keyword X and orgnically someone searches for X and they click on the ABC.com listing - In the XYZ site analytics (which is the target site) does it show as organic or referall, direct? Thanks
