Trying to rank my personal business website
-
Hi, Guys
I run a small company in england. I've been constantly ripped off by other seo companies. Im have my 1st child and really cannot afford the cost of a company to do this. I have just joined SEO mom look like a really great platform. Is there any advice on how i can rank my website. I am willing to put the time in myself and can devote late nights to try and succeed. Any advice on where to start links etc would be really greatly received.
Thank you all.

my best advice for you is to go through Moz's Beginners guide to SEO and ask questions in QnA if you didn't understand anything and you will get the basics of everything and then you can move ahead step by step.
Hope this helps!

I would say probably, but it'll take a fair amount of reading and work. As Eric said, the Beginner's Guide is a great place to start. I'd also recommend checking out "How to Rank" after you've finished it.

thank you so much. Would you say if i was to dive in, i should be able to do things myself within a few months and start noticing the impact

Best place to start is in the "learn and Connect" section (in the top nav), and check out the Beginner's Guide to SEO. That should be your foundation to starting to learn how to improve your website. That section has a ton of great guides and resources you should really dive into. Hope that helps point you in the right direction

How to make google crawl our repository to make our site rank but make sure users dont go to our repository ?
We have a website that has links to documents related to various sectors. But the challenge is we do not have the documents on the website itself and they are linked to our document repository that has been blocked to google. We have put nofollow and noindex to the repository. Since Google can not read those documents, it has resulted in an impact in our SEO ranking. What would be the best way to make Google crawl the PDF documents in the repository at the same time make it invisible the "repo" not appear in the search engines. Would dofollow and noindex sequence work ?

What should I place in the code to connect my html 5 website to Facebook, Google+ etc...?
I know most people use a CMS these days but I created a html 5 website for my small business using Dreamweaver. I'd like to know what, if anything, I should place in the code to link my website with my social media accounts like Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and Pinterest? I've found information about plugins that are useful if you're using a CMS but I'm not. I placed social media buttons on all of the pages of my website already, and when you click on those buttons they go to my social media accounts. But is there anything that should be placed in the code? Thanks for your help

Best Website satisfaction Survey Tool/Company to use
I need to do a voice of customer survey on one of our key webpages. It's basic questionnaire of why did you come here today, did you complete your task, etc. The company we were using last time Ipercetion has gone up tremendously in price and I was looking for another vendor with same attributes of easy to build survey and simple code that can be put on page easily. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

WP Permalinks, categories, and organic ranking impact
Hello. this is my first post here, so I hope it to be a question with an easy answer... I am working on a site that has an established domain, but has recently suffered significant ranking decline. one of the problems I have found involves over-use of categories and tags - making the actual content 3 to 4 clicks deep within any given post URL. My question involves the restructuring of category / tag use for improved page content and SEO organic rank impact. Here is an example: domain.com/blue-shoes/blue-shoes-tampa I want to target this specific post and optimize for "blue shoes tampa". I have used the Wordpress SEO plugin by Yoast to help achieve balanced optimization on the on-page post content itself, but now am struggling with the best approach for the URL... also, the site has about 80 (62 posts and 18 pages) total items with similar issues, , so I am hoping that any answer / opinion offered here might also be applicable to the rest of the site. thanks in advance for your time & comments.

Website Development Company Needed
Hey everyone, I am doing some consulting work for a travel company. They are redesigning their web site from scratch. The web site is highly database driven. I am looking to hire a company that has a very good combination of skills in programming(.NET or C+), website design, and SEO. In looking for a company to work with on this, a lot of companies claim they know SEO and web site design, but it is not as easy to find a company that is also highly proficient in programming. If any of you know of a great website directory for this, or even a company or two you recommend, I would greatly appreciate any of your advice. Thanks! Jeff Ferraro

Machine Learning - Randomness in Search Engine Ranking Algorithms
I believe, sometimes you may 'deserve' the first position, but get #3. And of course, sometimes you may deserve #3 and instead be #1. All due to a 'randomness factor' in search engine algorithms. I've been holding this hypothesis for quite sometime. Really, it started when I learned about SEOmoz using machine learning to better investigate SEO best practices. I suddenly found myself wanting to learn more about machine learning, and the implications of using it for SEO. I'm by no means able to utilize machine learning myself, but I it appears unsupervised learning would have a real chance of cracking search engine algorithms. Hey, even Stuxnet was cracked! Surely Google/ Bing would know (and account for) this, right? We can agree they'd obviously prefer a highly skilled mathematician not be able to crack the code. Therefore, I'm led to believe that search engines use some sort of randomness in their rankings. Maybe not much. Perhaps not all the time. But if a random percentage of search results, had a random variable of sorts included in their calculations... wouldn't that be enough to prevent the vast majority of cracking attempts? Thoughts, opinions, criticism? Thanks.
