Use of multiple keywords that are similar for one local site
-
Hi
I thought that if I wanted to rank a local site for the core Keyword, 'Landscaping Location' that variations of this keyword should be used on the same page. But I recently read that if I wanted to rank for:
Landscaping Location
Landscaping in Location
Landscaping Services in Locationthat I should use separate page for each term. Is this correct? A small local website will probably only have a few pages and so making up pages solely to go after Keywords can't be right. But then would opportunities be missed?
Thanks for your help with this!!

Matt is correct - building pages in a way that adds value to the user is the way to go. Building a separate page for each variation of a keyword is not only unnecessary, it can lead to lower rankings overall since Google has stated that these are not the kinds of sites they want to rank.
I would recommend very strongly against scraping content from other sites, or posting the same content on mulitple sites that you own, as well. Spend that time and effort on creating unique, expert, trustworthy content that adds value for your audience instead.
I haven't read the book you mention, but it might be time to find a different resource to learn about content marketing.

Great- thank you, I'm sure it was Joe Pulizzi's book 'Content Inc' that was leading me down the wrong path. It also states that you can use duplicate content (scraped from other sites) and I'm not sure that's right either.

You're right—building separate pages for each of those terms is most definitely not a good idea, and would appear spammy to search engines (not to mention your visitors!). Build the site in a way that will be useful and make sense for humans. If you can work the keyword variations into your content in a way that reads naturally, go for it, but keep in mind that the search engines are getting better and better at recognizing search intent. It's better to make your site clear and usable than to work in every possible variation of your terms.

Site redesign makes Moz Site Crawl go haywire
I work for an agency. Recently, one of our clients decided to do a complete site redesign without giving us notice. Shortly after this happened, Moz Site Crawl reported a massive spike of issues, including but not limited to 4xx errors. However, in the weeks that followed, it seemed these 4xx errors would disappear and then a large number of new ones would appear afterward, which makes me think they're phantom errors (and looking at the referring URLs, I suspect as much because I can't find the offending URLs). Is there any reason why this would happen? Like, something wrong with the sitemap or robots.txt?

Can't get my site recognised for keyword
My site prettycool.co.uk and primary we sell fascinators, the problem is I can't get the word fascinators to be listed by Google. We are on the 1st page for most colours ie. pink fascinators, blue fascinators etc. but for the term fascinators even if we fetch we are listed for a couple of hours and then disappear. I've checked for keyword stuffing but our site sell fascinators and we need to have this word in our site and other sites have a lot more references to the term and are listed on the 1st or 2nd pages. We used to be listed on page 1 for many years but the last 2 or 3 years dropped back to page 4 but now nothing. Any help or suggestions would be fantastic!

Trying to get on Google page one for keyword "criminal defense attorney san diego". What can I do?
I'm trying to help a friend who is an attorney get on page one for the keyword "criminal defense attorney san diego." So far I've changed his title and description tags since they weren't optimized before. (SERP shows old title tag, however I submitted a XML sitemap through Webmaster tools to get the new title tags updated.) He also had a few duplicate pages, but I took care of that with some 301 redirects. I also added a h1 tag, alt image tag, and more content. I also spent a few hours building links for him. He currently has a page authority of 52 and domain authority of 44 with a decent amount of links pointing to his site. I'm wondering why he's stuck on page 4, when his competitors that have less impressive numbers seem to show up on page 1. I did look at his link profile using OSE and I'm worried that his old SEO guy got him spam links. His website is www.nasserilegal.com, however the page I was focusing on was www.nasserilegal.com/criminal.html Any advice would be great.

Meta keywords
I heard that Google doesn't use 'meta keywords' for ranking. Is that true and does it harm to use the meta tag? And how do the other big SEs use the tag?

Are different IP addresses enough for sites with similar content?
Hi all We're looking at moving our 2 websites onto a cloud hosting package. The content on our sites is very similar (but not duplicated) so at the moment they are on separate servers. If we move to the cloud, is it enough for them to have different IP addresses on the same cloud system, or should we host in separate clouds? Thanks in advance Heather
