Followed links bad?
-
I send press releases through 2 different press release agencies. I noticed in the past year or so that one of the agencies started tagging all of the links in my press release with rel=nofollow while the other did not. I couldn't figure out why, so I actually called the "nofollow" agency...they told me that they do this because it is actually BETTER for SEO and that google would penalize you for creating new press releases that do not contain "nofollow" tag.. and that this was done as a result of some recent change to google's algorithm....now I do not know who to believe. Has anyone else heard of this issue and maybe could this be specific to press releases?

Well they probably explain this better:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356?hl=en
http://searchengineland.com/google-links-in-a-press-release-should-be-nofollowed-like-advertisements-168339
http://searchengineland.com/google-adds-large-scale-guest-posting-advertorials-optimized-anchor-text-to-list-of-link-schemes-168082
http://www.wordstream.com/blog/ws/2013/07/24/follow-nofollow-linksPlease note two things. First they talk about "optimized anchor text". This mean that if you link your domain with keyword anchors. There are many example like "wedding dresses", "wedding photographer", "wedding cakes", etc. If you link only "naked url" (url w/o keywords in anchors) then it's OK. And second - press releases can mess your linking profile to your site. So there are many articles all over the internet about something holy grail of linkbuilding - "perfect link profile". I won't share links because this is some myth and in reality this is hard to be proof. But why this is important? Because let's says that you have 70/30 or 60/40 external links to home page vs. internal pages. So passing press releases (most of them are to your home page) will change this to 90/10 or 85/15. And this could raise a red flag for Penguin.
As you can see it's tricky for you.
Now it's also tricky for sites sharing press releases. Because general each PR is text + link. And building too much content with outgoing links isn't good. Could trigger Panda. Now add that same content appear on many sites at once. Could trigger Panda too. Now also add "linking schemes" in 1st link. In result this is headache for them. That's why they use "nofollow" to minimize risks for them.
As you can see now - it's tricky for everyone. And safe way for linking is only "nofollow".

Getting a sitewide links from one domain as oppsed to few links from certain pages, a good, bad or horrible idea?
Hello, I have a website that is performing really well in Google for country specific Real Estate Website. I have had this site for just about 2 years and I have 4600+ indexed pages, and about 50 of my main keywords appear in top 10 results on Google. I have now started a second site with a brand new domain, its only about 2 months old. This one is a Travel website and again its country specific (same country that real estate website is performing well in) and since its still building up the content and has barely a couple of backlinks, I am thinking of adding a linkback to it from my Real Estate Site. Is it a good idea to add a site wide link back from header section of the real estate website to my travel website? Both sites has same country and most of the keywords in both relate to this country. Or will I be better off adding a few text links from few pages with best Page Authority? Or - do you suggest that I do not link the two at all? Both sites are hosted on different servers, with different IP's and one is on windows server created in asp.net while another is a magento site. Any advidce / insight will be much appreciated and thank you in advance.

Link building strategy - my weak link!
Please help me understand link building. I've read the articles on Moz, but they seem vague to me. Specific questions: 1. How do I get my webpage on good quality sites? 2. Guest blogging? Good or not? 3. What about when people pick up one of our blog stories and publish it on their site with a link back? Is that bad now because it is duplicate content??? 4. Forum posts with a link in the signature? Good or not? 5. Directories - I get it that these are no longer good... are they severely negative? Should I take them down. 6. PR - Looks like this is bad... right??? 7. Youtube - any value? 8. Pinterst, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram? Any value to backlinks here? 9. What about sites like redit? 10. Anything else I should consider?

Links I am not Building?
Hi All, I check webmaster multiple times on a daily basis, and I noticed some links that I have not worked on and look a bit spammy, is it possible for people to purposely pont bad links in my direction? If that is the case is there a way for me to remove them myself? Also the number of total backlinks are very different in Webmaster and my Open Site Explorer, is this normal? Thanks again !

Adding a link section - good or bad?
Hi all, I am currently thinking about adding a link section to my site. In 2010 I released a new version of the site, where one of the main differences to the old site was that a link section was left out. Now i see in webmaster tools that a lot of old links are still indexed but has a 500 error. My question is: 1. Will my site in general benefit from having a link sections with relevant links for the users - in terms of SEO? 2. Will my site benefit from creating a link section and having all the old link section URLs in google redirected to the new section? Best regards, Rasmus
