Meta tag Syntax
-
Hi,
This might seem silly.
What is the correct syntax for the meta tag used when noindexing webpages?
I have "". I have seen it both with and without the forward slash before the greater than sign. Does it make any difference if the forward slash is present or not?
Cheers

That makes sense. Thanks

It should not make any difference and is a question of style/syntax. The forward slash at the end is XHTML-Standard-Syntax. Sometimes, some validators may complain about one way of writing it or the other. Compare other Elements:
works if you write it just once at the start of a new parapgraph. Properly, a paragraph should be encased by
TextOfTheParagraph
, a DIV goesDivContentetc. Some elements ("void elements") do not have a beginning and end as such, for example a line break (
) or an image () or meta tags. Those can be written just like before or in XHTML-Syntax
indicating that the element is opened and then closed/finished by itself - there will not be a closing tag for it later on.Main point speaking for XHTML (HTML+XML) is that it is really well structured. Cf. http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_xhtml.asp
Regards
Nico

Removing a canonical tag from Pagination pages
Hello, Currently on our site we have the rel=prev/next markup for pagination along with a self pointing canonical via the Yoast Plugin. However, on page 2 of our paginated series, (there's only 2 pages currently), the canonical points to page one, rather than page 2. My understanding is that if you use a canonical on paginated pages it should point to a viewall page as opposed to page one. I also believe that you don't need to use both a canonical and the rel=prev/next markup, one or the other will do. As we use the markup I wanted to get rid of the canonical, would this be correct? For those who use the Yoast Plugin have you managed to get that to work? Thanks!

Does a tag inside H1 affect SEO?
We are using a tag inside our H1 tag to display a second line of text, usually for extra information and making the tag appeal like a intro text for the visitor and not just a optimized SEO tag. Example: https://www.denhollandsche.nl/grafmonumenten/ Does this technique affect SEO? Should we consider removing it? Natuursteen grafsteengraniet grafmonument voorbeelden

Phone Number In Meta Description
People are more likely to call us, than email us. However, if they're using a mobile device, there's a click to call button on that site. My question is this: google does not include our phone number in our meta description. I could try to get the description changed, but it doesn't seem like it would make that big of a deal for just the desktop site. Am I missing something about the importance of the phone number on a desktop site? Any experience with this situation? Thanks, Ruben

Google showing former meta tags in search results inspite of new tags being crawled by it
I had changed the meta tags for a site www.aztexsodablast.com.au about a month back and Google has also crawled those new tags but in search results when I search for the term 'Aztex Sodablast' it is continuing to show the old tags while on the site, the new tags are being displayed. What may be the issue and how could I correct the problem?

Meta tags - better NOT to have?
OK ok . . . the SEOMox report card told me it's actually better NOT to have meta tag keywords on my page, because my competitors can then look at my page to see what words I am trying to target . . . That makes since, but is also painfully counter intuitive. I thought I would just double check and make sure . .. NO META TAGS KEYWORDS? and if so . . .. what (if anything) should I have in the meta tags?

Duplicate content and tags
Hi, I have a blog on posterous that I'm trying to rank. SEOMoz tells me that I have duplicate content pretty much everywhere (4 articles written, 6 errors at the last crawl). The problem is that I tag my posts, and apparently SEOMoz thinks that it's duplicate content only because I don't have so many posts, so pages end up being very very similar. What can I do in these situations ?
