Track PDF's in Google Analytics
-
Hi Mozzers,
Is it possible to track PDF's via Google Analytics/Google tag manager? I'm not only looking for PDF downloads but for the actual activity when someone opens an interactive PDF document. So would it be possible to have onclick events on buttons in the PDF etc...
Many thanks!

Hi,
Interesting thought, but one that it seems at first glance technically impossible to do. There are some conversations here and here about using javascript events inside interactive pdfs but aside from immediate technical block points (would need a js enabled pdf viewer and an internet connection at the time of viewing) having a quick look at the acrobat js documentation here seems to imply that acrobat js functionality does not support standard http queries which is probably want you would want to use to send events via the Analytics Measurement Protocol. I suppose you might be able set up your own web service to receive a call and then send the http request to analytics.... but that just sounds like way too much work (with still doubtful results). If you do decide to give it try and it works it would probably be worthy of a moz blog post!

Short of tracking pageviews, downloads and clicks on links within the PDF I am not too sure how you would track an interactive PDF. I would still want to put tracking parameters on all links within the PDF and track traffic coming back into your website.

Hi Jordan,
Thank you for your answer. I'm looking more for an option to track interactive PDF's. Any suggestions for that?
Thanks

First I would recommend tagging all your links you include in your pdf with Google's URL builder tool to track engagement and activity once someone is in a pdf. You could also track pdf's as events or a download as a goal with Google analytics. Here is a more in depth article discussing how to track pdf's with a variety of methods.
Hope this helps some.

Track buttons in Google Tag Manager
Hi! First question: I am wondering if it's possible to track two buttons with the same code in Google Tag Manager without changing the code? There are different page URL's.. Second one: My tags are displayed in Google Analytics as 'events'. When I put the events in 'goals', the number of times it fired differs from my events. Someone who can help me with this issue?

Google analytics suddenly stopped tracking all my landing pages
Hey guys. I love the new update of GA. Looks so clean. So, of course, I was excited to see how my landing pages were doing. I went to behavior, all content, all pages. And I noticed it's only showing me 19 pages out of the 93 I have indexed. And none of the top ones at all! Can't find them anywhere in GA! Anyone seen this before? Thank you so much

We have a client that wants to apply UTM URL tagging to track local organic traffic in Google Analytics. Is there any benefit in doing this?
One of our clients requested that we apply UTM URL tagging to better track organic traffic in Google Analytics. We found this to be an odd request because we are most familiar with UTM tracking for special campaigns (referral tracking, PPC, email tracking, etc). Is there any benefit of applying UTM tags to urls to analyze local organic traffic in Google Analytics? Are there any resources out there about this? Thanks!

Does anyone know if I can 'change the domain' in GA so we don't lose our past data?

Hey - how's things? I've got 2 goals setup, each of which use the same thank you page but with different required funnels. The results have been identical for the last few weeks - which tells me I've got something wrong!! The first goal has a contact form on every page in the /products/ directory set up like this:

destination equal to: /thanks-enquiry/funnel step1 page: ^/products/.* required: yes The first goal has a form on 1 page called /on-sale set up like this:

funnel step1 page: /on-sale required: yes Any ideas?0 -
Google Analytic Tracking Issue (&utm_nooverride=1)
Hello, We have a problem that means we are unable to track our AdWords and organic work at all. Looking at "/All Traffic Sources" and clicking on "Ecommerce Tab" in Analytics we can see that (made up ratio :)):
Reporting & Analytics | | jannkuzel
£2 is attributed to Google/ CPC
£1 is attributed to Google / Organic
But £100 to Payment Provider/ referral and also various referrals from banking transaction pages. All of the revenue/conversions are being credited to the payment provider or the bank security checks the payment goes through. After having done some research we have found that the problem may be that Google Analytics attributes the purchase to the most recent click (on the payment provider button) rather than the initial click on the cpc campaign/organic or direct etc. Some people have suggested using the "&utm_nooverride=1"
tag which we wanted to run past you guys and confirm whether adding
this tag to the payment provider 'buy now' button on our website will
presumably fix this referral problem? Alternatively does the tag need
to be entered into our CPC campaigns as well? Or can you please guide
us in another way? We have also heard that "cross-domain" tracking could be the solution. So we are really confused what to do and where hoping someone had maybe been through something similar and could advice before we fully launch into a solution. In addition, it should be noted that our 'Goals Funnel Visualisation'
of 'checkout' breaks up at the penultimate stage of the checkout. All
customers exit through the /checkout_process (penultimate) but are recognised returning to the successful checkout page but there is a missing link in between these
two stages as 0% pass through is shown even though they do return? Thank you so much in advance for all your help.0
