Handling XML Sitemaps for Ad Classified Sites
-
Let's put on a scenario for a Job Classified site,
So far the way we are handling xml sitemaps is in a consecutive number containing only ads historically:
http://site.com/sitemap_ads_1.xml
http://site.com/sitemap_ads_2.xml
http://site.com/sitemap_ads_99.xml
Those sitemaps are constantly updating as each ad is published, keeping expired ads but I'm sure there is a better way to handle them.
For instance we have other source of content besides ads pages, like those related to search results (Careers, Location, Salary, level, type of contract, etc) and blog content, but we are not adding them yet
So what I'm suggesting is to reduce the amount of xml sitemaps ads to just one, including just the ones that are active (not expired), add another xml sitemap based on search results, another one on blog content, another one on images and finally one for static content such as home, faq, contact, etc.
Do you guys think this is the right way to go?

I will agree with Eric on the maximum number of URLs you can add in one sitemap. Than you can add another sitemap and connect together. My idea is to create separate sitemap for blog, static content, main pages and ads.
In my opinion, its ok to keep the URL in the xml site maps as far as the expired ad’s URL.
Just a thought!

Hi Eric,
So it is OK to just keep the ads that are active?, and constantly remove the expired ads from the xml sitemap, or doing such a fuzz ain't worth while.
Thanks in advance.

The way you're going about it sounds just fine--as long as it makes sense to you and is logical. I recommend you use a keyword classifier (such as ads, careers, location, etc.) in the URL so you know which ones are which ones.
We typically have had up to 50,000 URLs in one sitemap.xml file and then it's split up. Some of the files may contain less, but typically that's the maximum.

Does anyone know the linking of hashtags on Wix sites does it negatively or postively impact SEO. It is coming up as an error in site crawls 'Pages with 404 errors' Anyone got any experience please?
Does anyone know the linking of hashtags on Wix sites does it negatively or positively impact SEO. It is coming up as an error in site crawls 'Pages with 404 errors' Anyone got any experience please? For example at the bottom of this blog post https://www.poppyandperle.com/post/face-painting-a-global-language the hashtags are linked, but they don't go to a page, they go to search results of all other blogs using that hashtag. Seems a bit of a strange approach to me.

How many pages should my site have?
Right now I think I only have 36. What is a good amount of pages to have? Any ideas on ways to add relevant pages to my site? I was thinking about starting a message board. Also, I have a free tech support chat room, and was thinking about posting the logs somewhere on the site. Does that sound like a good idea? Thanks.

Will 301 redirecting a site multiple times still preserve the original site value?
Hi, All! If site www.abc.com was already 301 redirected to site www.def.com, and now the site owner wants to redirect www.def.com to www.ghi.com - is there any concern that it's not going to work, and some of the original linkjuice, rank, trust, etc. is going to vanish? Or as long as the 301s are set up right, should you be able to 301 indefinitely? Does anyone have any experience with actually doing this and seeing good/bad/neutral results? Thanks in advance! -Aviva B

More than 1 XML Sitemap
I recently took over administration of my site and I have 2 XML sitemaps for my main site and 1 XML sitemap for my blog (which is a sub-page of the main site). Don't I only need 1 sitemap for my site and one for my blog? I don't know which one to delete - they both has the same page authority. Also, only 1 of them is accessible by browser search. http://www.rmtracking.com/rmtracking-sitemap.xml - accessible in browser http://www.rmtracking.com/sitemap.xml - regularly updated in Google Webmaster Tools but not accessible in search browser. I don't have any error messages in Webmaster tools.
