Page Speed Slowed Down After Minifying Code
-
We recently implemented a plugin to minify our code on all of our homepages (800+ websites). The hope was that this would improve our page load speed. Unfortunately, the results are showing that page speed has slowed down across the board for all the homepages.
I am very perplexed by this. Any insight into why this might have happened and what steps to take from here would be much appreciated!

In order to help you, can you give us some details :
- which plugin do you use ?
- Do you minify code at deployment, before caching ?
Minifying can be an issue if the result is not cached, so each time the page is loading, the server must minify the code... And perhaps if your server is on a shared hosting, it can be time consuming !

It's not the process of implementing the minified code that's an issue, it's just the results we are seeing from it.
We also plan to implement browser caching, but want to do these implementations one at a time so we can more easily measure the results of each.
-
We haven't yet tested turning it back off yet. We only have about 20 days of data since implementing it so I would like to at least get a full month of data to analyze.

Hi Chris! Sounds like Billy and Thomas might be able to help. Do you have any info for them?
-
Have you had any sort of caching?
Also have you tried cloudflares free cdn? They offer minifying and it makes it really easy.
-
Just curious... if you uninstall the plugin does the page load speed return to what it was before the install?

Why rankings dropped from 2 page to 8th page and no penalization?
Dear Sirs, a client of mine for more than 7 years used to have his home page (www.egrecia.es) between 1st and 2nd page in the Google Serps and suddenly went down to 8 page. The keyword in question is "Viajes a Grecia". It has a good link profile as we have built links in good newspapers from Spain, and according to Moz it has a 99% on-page optimization for that keyword, why why why ??? What could I do to solve this? PD: It has more than 20 other keywords in 1st position, so why this one went so far down? Thank you in advance !

New page not topping on results
Hi, We have created a new page on our website for same keyword in slug but the page is not showing up for same keyword even combined with website name: website.com/keyword is new page and not listing on top of results for exact search query "website keyword". This page is listing as 3rd result and other pages are making on top even they don't match with page title, h1 tags and URL. This new page is indexed. How long it'll take to Google to adopt this? I don't think it'll remain same forever. Is there anything we can do from our end?

Will Google Visit Non-Canonicalized Page Again and Return Its Page's Original Ranking?
I have 2 questions about canonicalization. 1. Will Google ever visit Page A again if after it has been canonicalized to Page B? 2. If Google will still visit Page A and found that it is not canonicalizing to Page B already, will the original rankings and traffic of Page A returned to the way before it's canonicalized? Thanks.

Category Pages - Canonical, Robots.txt, Changing Page Attributes
A site has category pages as such: www.domain.com/category.html, www.domain.com/category-page2.html, etc... This is producing duplicate meta descriptions (page titles have page numbers in them so they are not duplicate). Below are the options that we've been thinking about: a. Keep meta descriptions the same except for adding a page number (this would keep internal juice flowing to products that are listed on subsequent pages). All pages have unique product listings. b. Use canonical tags on subsequent pages and point them back to the main category page. c. Robots.txt on subsequent pages. d. ? Options b and c will orphan or french fry some of our product pages. Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

404 Redirecting to the home page
One of my clients that is managing their own server and website recently moved servers. Which then broke their custom 404 page. Instead of fixing this or putting the site back to the old server they redirected the 404 to the home page. I've been working on getting their 404's appropriately redirected, or old urls redirection using a 301 for a month or two. I read the HTTP Status Codes best practices. It just discusses usability. What technical seo back lash can happen?
