Will this fix my bounce rate?
-
If I understand bounce rate correctly, what it basically means is that someone clicks on your SERP, and then clicks back to google? But, it doesn't matter if they spent 10 minutes on your page or 10 seconds...so if that's right, then can you lower you bounce rate by getting someone to click on another internal link inside the original page they visited from the SERPs?
So for example, if a user clicks on the SERP result for our webpage X, then the users clicks on an internal link on our page X to another one of our webpages ,Y, will that lower the bounce rate, even if the user eventually backs out to the original SERP page?
Thanks,
Ruben

As @jessconfitti said, you are 100% correct. If a user browses more than 1 page in your site, it would not be a bounce. Even if after the second page the users clicks back to whatever Website they came from.

Hi Ruben,
Yes, that's 100% correct!
The pages through which visitors enter your site (from Google, Yahoo, Facebook, an email, or any other source) are called landing pages. If a visitor does not interact with this page in any way (meaning they don't click to any other pages on your site), this is called a "single-page visit" or a "bounce."
Bounce Rate is the percentage of single-page visits. For example, if you had 1000 total visitors/sessions in a month, and 100 of them exited the same page they landed on (without clicking to any other pages first), you would have a 10% bounce rate for the month.
In my experience, the best way to lower your bounce rate is to (a) create content that speaks to your target persona, (b) provide links to other articles/pages on your site that will also be interesting to this persona, and (c) incorporate a content upgrade with a clear CTA.
For example, let's say your persona wants to paint their home, because their bedroom is too dark and it makes them anxious. You might write an article called: Top 50 Mood Boosting Colors To Paint Your Bedroom. Next to each paint color on the list you might include a link like [request a free paint sample] or [view paints in this color]. After reading this article, what is this persona probably wondering? I like #25 , #32, and #48. I wonder which one I'll like best...? Answer their question with your CTA. You might try something like: see which color feels best on your walls. Download a Free PDF that includes printable color swatches for all 50 mood-boosting paint colors. [Download here.]
I hope this helps!

Page content is not very similar but topic is same: Will Google considers the rel canonical tags?
Hi Moz community, We have multiple pages from our own different sub-domains for same topics. These pages even rank in SERP for related keywords. Now we are planning to show only one of the pages in SERP. We cannot redirect unfortunately. We are planning to use rel canonical tags. But the page content is not same, only 20% is similar and 80% is different but the context is same. If we use rel canonicals, does Google accepts this? If not what should I do? Making header tags similar works? How Google responds if content is not matching? Just ignore or any negative score? Thanks

Any disadvantages of employing additional images which open in new window? Will it impact bounce rate and rankings?
Hi all, Our website is all about our software product. Generally our website pages are filled with 3 to 6 screenshots of our product features. As Google recently shifting to mobile index and pageload speed is going to be priority, we decided to compress the images on our pages and show the same images of large size in new window when someone clicks on a image. I wonder if this helps or has any disadvantages? Users may click on these clickable images while browsing the pages and may shift to new window to view the image. Will this have any negative impact on bounce rate? Please share your thoughts. Thanks

Will Russia's New Data Protection Law Impact SEOs and SMBs Outside of Russia?
We've all seen the news recently that Google will be closing its engineering offices in Russia due to new data protection laws coming into place in January 2015. The same law has also led to Adobe pulling out of Russia earlier in the year. I was wondering how you think this will impact SEOers and small/medium businesses that market _to _Russia, but are based outside of the country? Personal data has been defined in the new legislation as: Personal data means any information directly or indirectly related to any identified or potentially identifiable person. It includes, among other things, first name and family name, date and place of birth, address, information about family status, education, profession, income Source For those businesses which don't process personal data (affiliates etc), will there be any foreseeable impact? On the flipside, are there any benefits here for affiliate businesses inside of Russia? I'm using affiliates as an example to get the ball rolling, but I'm sure there's numerous more. Personally, I'd be interested to hear if you think this may impact corporate websites which don't process personal data, but operate outside of Russia.

Has anyone used Capterra and will I get penalized for paid links?
Hello - I'm contemplating buying a directory listing on the software promotion website http://www.capterra.com/ . It's a site that gets quite a bit of traffic for people searching for software products and  I was interested in promoting my software product there, but I don't want to ruin our very good standing with Google at this time if Google deems Capterra as selling paid links. I'm not interested in this for links but instead as a good source of referral traffic for my software site. If anyone has used Capterra or has advice on whether Capterra might injure my SERP rankings, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Jeff

Does Google Analytics Adjusted Bounce Rate Lead to Increase in Average Time per Visitor?
Hello, I just recently implemented adjusted bounce rate onto one of the websites that I track via google analytics. (http://searchenginewatch.com/article/2322974/How-to-Implement-Adjusted-Bounce-Rate-ABR-via-Google-Tag-Manager-Tutorial) Since doing so, obviously my bounce rate has gone down significantly, nearly half of what it use to be, but I've also noticed an increase in the average time per visitor. In fact, the increase of average time per visitor began the same day I adjusted the bounce rate. Has this happened to anyone else? Can someone please explain why/how this may occur?

How to show your ratings in the Google SERP
I've noticed that some organic search results are showing ratings just above the meta tag. Â How are these sites doing this? Example: Â If you search "cash advance", there is a result between #4 and #6 in the organic results. Â The site is "goldcashadvance.com". Â It's showing a 5-star rating in the result.

Bounce rate and rankings
I have believed for years that a high bounce rate (from search) could lower your rankings over time. Makes sense; if users bounce right back to search after looking at your page Google should think that page wasn't very useful and will push your down the SERPs. But, how do they determine this? If a user comes back after 30 seconds that's a bounce? Or is my premise incorrect and Google does not take bounce into account? Erin
