Shortened URL is breaking when URL is in Upper Case
-
Hi there,
Currently I'm having some troubling mitigating an odd occurrence with some redirected shortened URLs being in upper case.
Here is how they should be behaving -
www.rhinosec.com/webapp -> https://rhinosecuritylabs.com/landing/sample-report-webapp-pentest/
www.rhinosec.com/network -> https://rhinosecuritylabs.com/landing/sample-report-network-pentest/
www.rhinosec.com/se -> https://rhinosecuritylabs.com/landing/social-engineering-example-report/but when the /______ is capitalized - for example - WEBAPP, NETWORK, SE; WordPress either gives me a 404 or guesses the pages and lands on:
NETWORK = https://rhinosecuritylabs.com/assessment-services/network-penetration-testing/
SE = https://rhinosecuritylabs.com/assessment-services/secure-code-review/
WEBAPP = 404I was wondering if this discrepancy should be taken care of in the Htaccess file, Cloudflare, or WordPress redirect plug-in?

Hi Benjamin,
Although there is a possibility that your WordPress redirect plugin is causing this issue, it would be hard to tell without having access to the CMS. Often times a plugin will have a box that's checked somewhere that might cause something weird to occur. However, I doubt this is the case.
To answer your question, I would do this in the htaccess file although I would be cautious and test it first. Here is a write-up with someone who had a similar issues (he goes into details about his solution).
Hope that helps!

Best URL when adding an SSL certificate . . .
Our (small) company is a little late to the party on this, and we've only just realised that we're better off with an SSL certificate for our website. (Yes I know, I know, but we dropped SEO some time ago after getting severely bitten by a certain Penguin, and are only just making tentative step back to it after those intervening years, so we're running to get back up to date with these things.) This has now been implemented, but our web guy has dropped the 'www' element during the process. Our http://domain.com address has always historically been redicrected to our main http://www.domain.com address. Now our web guy has implemented the SSL cert, our website URL is appearing as https://domain.com, and he has redirected the http://www.domain.com to that new URL. Obviously all our historic (and more recent) link building has been to the http://www.domain.com address. Is this an issue, should the new Https URL keep the 'www', or does it make no difference what so ever? Conversely could it actually be of benefit dropping the 'www.' because our keyword specific product URL's are now 4 characters closer to the http and 4 digits shorter? Finally, on the links we have control of (professional trade associations etc) do we need to ask them to change the links to the new Https address, or does the transition from Http to Https make no difference?

Is it Bad to Break Up A Site into Multiple Sites?
I have a big cluttered website with endless pages. It's a non-profit that has content for patients, researchers, therapists, etc.. Would it be a bad idea to turn this cluttered site into 3 or more completely different sites, each focused on their specific demographic? Or should I just figure out how to organize the one site better? Thanks for your help!!!

When Site:Domain Search Run on Google, SSL Error Appears on One URL, Will this Harm Ranking
Greetings MOZ Community: When a site:domain search is run on Google, a very strange URL appears in the search results. The URL is http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com:2082/ The page displays a "the site's security certificate is not trusted." This only appears for one URL out of 400. Could this indicate a wider problem with the server's configuration? Is this something that needs to be corrected, and if so how? Our ranking has dropped a lot in the last few months. Thanks,

Major URL changes in new site launch
Hey Guys - we recently launched a new website for a client. Prior, all of their URLs were dynamic via an old-school Cold Fusion CMS. We basically had to rewrite 90% of the sites URLs (site is like 300 pages). The new URLs are SEO friendly and the on-page SEO is strong; but the page rank/authority is starting from scratch from these pages and placement has decreased more most of the new pages with competitive keywords. We set up all of the 301 redirects properly and are actively monitoring in Google Webmaster Tools. **Anything else I can do to lessen the pain and get these pages higher page rank/authority sooner rather than later?**Thanks for all of your help.

Is there a best practice for using a general iso code for the EAME region and APAC region or should you break it out by country?
I am creating a strategy for multiple regions and the US comes to market different than EAME (Europe, Africa, Middle East) and China. We were planning on using language and iso codes in subfolder's but the corporation only wants their content to be in German, English, and Queens English. Our current decision is to use /en-US/, /en/, /de/, /en-CN/, /zh-CN/. /en/ and /de/ will be what we use for EAME. This doesn't seem like the best idea as I think /en/ will get indexed as the US version and not the EAME version. Any suggestion or if clarification is needed is greatly appreciated.

Will changing our URL's to MVC friendly URL's have a positive or negative affect on our rankings and link juice?
We've recently changed our site over to a new hosting system, we've got similar pages and are now looking at changing the URL's to ensure we do not loose our link juice from our previous site. My question is regarding the URL's, is it worth us changing our URL's to MVC friendly URL have a good or bad affect on our rankings and or link juice? Thanks

What is the whitehat way to properly remove the .html and .php extensions at the end of urls? Example: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo.php should be (and is) http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo

Page Title or Search Friendly Urls?
We are currently auditing our website as part of our SEO strategy. One item which hascome up is the importance of search friendly urls against the search engine friendly page titles. Do url's or page titles carry more relevance than the other in search engines? Obviously the ideal would be to have both to maximise search impact but do either carry more importance. Thanks
