Adwords - Mobile Checkbox
-
Hi Everyone,
I am looking to optimize my adwords campaigns and have been pondering how to handle the checkbox for "Mobile" on the standard Text Ads. (My ecommerce website is fully responsive.)
If i want to create 1 Ad for each ad group and have that ad displayed on desktops as well as mobile devices, should i be checking the "Mobile" checkbox?
Is it best practice to create 2 ads per ad group that are identical except have 1 with Mobile checked and 1 without?
Please let me know how you guys typically set this up.
Thanks

Hi,
An update on this since it came up in a recent conversation. Google reps seem to be saying now that for best performance it is wise to have two text ads in each group one with the mobile checkbox enabled and one without (assuming a single campaign / ad group aimed at all devices). They can be identical in all other aspects, although they do not have to be.
The reasoning being that the adwords system will give a kind of 'bonus' to mobile specific text ads for searches done on mobile devices which may result in better position, reduced cpc etc for mobile searches. If you do not set up ad groups like this then your non mobile ads will continue to show on all devices but it is worth testing to see if the above setup brings better results for mobile queries!

Hi,
I'm completely agreed with what Google adwords specialist suggest you. I'm using the same technique for my campaign and it works perfectly fine.
If you don't have mobile specific url like m.example.com and your site is mobile responsive as you mentioned I would suggest you to do the same . I also have mobile responsive ecommerce site and following the same.
Thanks

i happen to agree with you!

Really?? Well their documentation in the link above says the opposite and all text ads I have ever set up without the mobile box checked have shown just fine across all devices. I am going to stick with my answer anyway, but what can I say if a google rep says otherwise!

Thanks Lynn - I just did a live chat with a google adwords specialist and they said that i should check "Mobile" for every ad if it is meant to be displayed on all devices...
Are you sticking with your answer even though Google disagrees?
Thanks for your help

Hi,
If you want to have one ad that displays on both desktop and mobile do NOT check the mobile box. This check box is used to indicate that the ad is to be 'preferred' for mobile devices in relation to other ads of the same type (ie text ads) in the same ad group. Google does not recommend having ad groups with only mobile optimized ads in them saying they may show up on desktop and tablet searches anyway.
So if you want to create text ads that show across all devices simply create them as normal and do not check the mobile box. If you want to have a text ad that has different wording for mobile users (lots of reasons why you might want to do this) then best practice is to create at least two text ads, one for desktop/tablet and one for mobile (with the mobile box checked). You can see what devices each ad has been shown on by selecting the 'Device' option from the Segment drop down in the ads tab to get exact numbers of impressions, clicks, CTR etc for each ad.

Adwords disapproving ads with the word "Jewish"?
Hi guys, I do marketing for many nonprofits, and one of my clients is a Jewish women's organization. In the past week or so, Google has started disapproving ads and keywords that have the word "Jewish" in them. I know Facebook got called out recently for allowing people to target based on anti-Semitic sentiments, so I'm wondering if this is just Google's terrible execution of caution. It's telling me that keywords with the word "jewish" in them (like "jewish women's organization in boston" is derogatory or dangerous). I've asked for Google's help, and they've been incredibly slow to respond. Is anyone else facing this with other religions or content? Natalie

Finding Average Session Duration for AdWords Campaigns
Happy Holidays Mozzers! Does anyone know how to view 'Average Session Duration' for AdWords campaigns? I can't seem to be able to add it within the AdWords platform and when i try and view it on Analytics, the #/visits isn't matching the #/visits I see when I try and review the campaign via AdWords. Any help on this issue would be great! Thanks for reading!

Is there way to have several AdWords Ad for the same keyphrase?
Hi guys. Can I have 2-3-4 ads come up for the same keyphrase? The situation is: I'm bidding for client's company name, there is no other competition (nobody else bids for client's company name), I'm bidding only for exact match and phrase match. Is there way to have, let's say 4 ads come up when somebody searches for exact matched company name? P.S. I know it's weird question, all this is done under reputation management for this company, I'm trying to occupy as much space at the top of the 1st SERPs, so people don't see ROR article in organic position #4. If you have other suggestions - please feel free to put it here. (SEO is being done, not-index pages are being optimized to try to come up as several organic results, backlink building is in process, Social media profiles are being optimized as well). I'm just trying to have some temporary "fix".

Do Adwords affect organic rank?
I used to rank 2 for "guitar outlet" I just dropped to under 50th. Only change I made was to pause a Adwords campaign where I was including that keyword. Oddly enough, I believe I ranked high for that keyword BEFORE I added it as a keyword, but I cant be 100% sure due to lack of timing notes. But is it common for adwords to affect organic? If not...where do I start to look for the answer as to why it dropped?

How Can I Increase Conversions from English Speaking Countries in AdWords?
Hello, So here is the gist: Our company provides credit card processing services primarily to e-commerce businesses. I began managing Google AdWords in-house this past April. I started out by not excluding any countries, but received leads from merchants living in countries we could not serve due to risk of fraud. Then, I excluded countries our company could not work with to eliminate unwanted costs. I then took it one step further and targeted only countries our company can serve. My campaigns performed very well. This month, I have been averaging nearly 14 conversions per day. [I should also add that four campaigns are Search and Display, one is remarketing so it is Display only, and two are Search only. Prior to what you will read in the paragraph below, the majority of our conversions came from the Display network, but we had a significantly higher conversion rate with our Search conversions.] However, throughout all of this, we received very few conversion from English-speaking countries--primarily the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Yesterday afternoon, July 15, I targeted only those four countries. When I came into work this morning, I saw that we received very few impressions and only 7 clicks (as opposed to more than 500,000+ impressions in one day and 1,500-2,400 clicks in one day). I am no Google AdWords expert, but I do understand that searching these terms in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia may be more competitive, which will require a higher CPC. I set it so Google manages my CPC, so I would assume this would adjust while staying within my daily budget. I do not know what to do, but am in dire need of guidance. I do not know where to look online for help and Google AdWords Live Chat is not working. Thank you in advance,

Enhanced Campaigns: Can you disable the call extension from desktop/laptop ads and only show it for mobile ads?
I "upgraded" one of my campaigns to Enhanced Campaigns. Now my text ads appears with a phone number to the right of the Headline. Can I turn this off for desktop and laptops and only show our phone number / click to call button on mobile devices? That's how I had it set up before. Now it seems like Enhanced Campaigns is forcing the phone number in your text ads across all devices. Thanks.

Adwords "Display Network" tab buggy?
Anyone else notice the new Display Network tab in Google Adwords is buggier than a cheap NY motel bed? Everytime I load it in firefox I end up twiddling my thumbs for several minutes before hard closing the program. Very frustrating morning... In case anyone else is feeling this pain, I just tried it in opera and it finally loaded ok.
