What is the best way to show content in Listing Pages?
-
If it is e-commerce site and a product listing page there is always a conflict how to show the content? As per my understanding we can show content in two different ways.
1. To show little content and use **Read more. (**In this case there is a direct message to the google: Here is the content visible and rest content is hidden but available for visitors to read more
2. Can use** Scroll bar**. So here is the message to Google and visitors that my full content is available here. So just scroll down to read further.
So I want to know that which method of showing content is best and it's impact of SEO where there is UI constraint or both the method is ok without any SEO impact. Please share your suggestions.

Thank you Kathiravan,
For jewelry and gold coins I think the image and "read more" is the best option for both user experience and SEO, assuming Read More goes to the product page. My advice would be to link the product title to the product page as well, and for it to be the first link to that page in the code (read more being the second link) since the first link determines anchor text.
Does that answer your question?

No, it is not a WordPress site. This is product listing page not the product page. We receive maximum organic traffic to these listing pages. As you have seen the attached image it is just the upper part. You can also check this page here (https://www.caratlane.com/jewellery/diamond-rings.html).
So again I am repeating my point: To show the full content for visitors can we use read more button or side scroll bar and which one is best from SEO point?

Kathiravan,
Is this a Wordpress site? I've never seen a true eCommerce site do that. Category pages have an image of the products, along with a title, price and sometimes a very short description. Product pages should show the image and a full description, along with tabbed or otherwise easily accessible content for other features and information. Videos, multiple image views and reviews are also encouraged.

Hi Kathiravan,
Google's view on this is never to hide important information if it is something that you or your visitors rely on.
Lets say that you have 100 words that explain everything a potential buyer would need and then hid a further 300 words, but available after a click, then Google would assume that what is hidden isn't as important. With what you have on the attached image, I would question if you have given enough information there.
I like to look at this as what is best for the prospective buyer and give them as much as they need. Keep the important information high up the page and then depending on what else you need to include, you can decide if hiding it behind a tab keeps the page clearer, or can you add the full content below the fold as a scroll?
There are many factors with eCommerce sites - it's a much bigger discussion.

Assistance with High Priority Duplicate Page Content Errors
Hi I am trying to fix the high priority duplicate content URL's from my recent MOZ crawl (6 URL's) in total. Would someone from the community be able to offer some web development advice? I had reached out on the Moz Community on the main welcome page. Samantha stated that someone in web development on Moz's Q&A forum would be better suited to assist me. I took a word press class on Lynda.com, but other than that, I am a novice. I manage my site www.rejuvalon.com on Go Daddy's managed wordpress site. Thanks so much for your help! Best, Jill

Cached pages still showing on Google
We noticed our QA site showing up on Google so we blocked them in our robot.txt file. We still had an issue with them crawling it so we blocked the site from the public. Now Google is still showing a cached version from the first week in March. Do we just have to wait until they try to re-crawl the site to clear this out or is there a better way to try and get these pages removed from results?

Web page is showing up on Google but doesn't show when it was cached, so is it indexed?
Hey everyone So I created a new page on a WordPress website, it was live for a few hours till I changed my mind & switched it back to a draft. Just out of curiosity I did the Site:www.example.com/Example search on Google to see if it had been indexed & apparently it had but when I click on cached to see what time it got indexed at exactly it's showing me an error. So does this mean it is indexed or not?

Cloaking? Best Practices Crawling Content Behind Login Box
Hi- I'm helping out a client, who publishes sale information (fashion sales etc.) In order for the client to view the sale details (date, percentage off etc.) they need to register for the site. If I allow google bot to crawl the content, (identify the user agent) but serve up a registration light box to anyone who isn't google would this be considered cloaking? Does anyone know what the best practice for this is? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Nopadon

Best way to do a site in various regions
I have a client who has 2 primary services in 4 regions He does mold removal and water damage repair. He then serves cincinnati, dayton, columbus, and indianapolis. Before hiring my company he had like 30 domains (keyword based) and had tons and tons of fake google places listings. He actually got a lot of traffic that way. However I will not tolerate that kind of stuff and want to do things the right way. First of all what is the best site approach for this. He wants a site for each service and for each city. indy mold cincy mold dayton mold dayton water etc etc etc In the end he will have 8 sites and wants to expand into other services and regions. I feel like this is not the right way to handle this as he also has another site that is more generic To me the best way to do this is a generic domain with a locations page and a page for each city. The for the Places he would get one account - an address that is hidden since he goes to customer locations, and just multiple city defined regions. He does have an office like address at each city. So should I make him a Places listing for each city or just the one? And of course how should the actual sites be organized? Thanks

Best way to display maintenence mode on a website?
I have a website with lots of traffic and sometimes the backends fail. I want to use lighttpd to show that the website is under mantenence and should be back up shortly. I was thinking of using Soft 503 errors or doing a 302 for every page to /maintenance.html. What would you do (besides fixing the backends, we are already doing that :P) to avoid hurting your SEO efforts? Thanks in advance Mariano
