Optimizing my images to appear on Google Images
-
My website ranks at the top for my keywords, but my images barely show up on Google Images. I'm renaming them, tagging them, I'm not sure what else I can possibly do. Any suggestions? Thanks!
-
So I have always renamed my file before uploading it. But what I realized is that while I was occasionally filling in the "title, alt text, description" I was not doing that consistently. I have started going back into my media library and filling that information in. As I have thousands of pictures on my sites, it will take some time, but I'm hoping that will fix my issue.
I would also love to know if title, alt text and description should be the same. My gut says "no" because Google would likely see that as "spammy." I'm certain I could be wrong though. Would love to hear from others.
-
Thought I'd just ask again in hope someone might see the question that has had experience with this:
_"When using Wordpress (or similar) are all the Media fields needed to be filled out? _
ie. Title, Alt Text, Description?
Would you have all these the same or different? Specially as then when you insert the image into the page you also have Caption on top of the 3 above bits of information?"
-
Anyone had experience with this?
-
We've found (and I'd love someone else to verify this) that there is some invisible meta data in JPEGs when they are first created. The name of the JPEG before it's placed in a site seems to have a significant effect on rankings in some cases. Have a play with some meta data editors and see if that makes a difference

Well I would argue that the images I have posted are kick-ass, so I'm guessing that's not my issue.
-
Thank you Tim.
How can I tell if my site has an image sitemap already?
-
Kickass images are the best optimization.
-
How could make website rank so high but not the images? Seems like both should be ranking about the same, no?
-
Yep, they are being indexed.
I also see your work for https://www.google.com/search?q=Indianapolis+Baby+Photography&source=lnms&tbm=isch
It could just be an authority issue... you need to strengthen your website authority (get more backlinks) in order to rank your pictures higher.
-
Thank you Oleg.
So when I put this in Google and click on the image results, I get a TON of my pictures. I think that means Google is indexing my images, would that be true?
Here's the "this" I referred to: site:lseverson.com newborn photography
-
Yes, it may be over optimized. First off, make sure the images are being indexed (search for site:yourdomain.com + keyword in image search).
Since most of your images are so similar, you should add more descriptive terms (clothing, scenery, lighting, ethnicity, baby synonyms (toddler, infant, newborn, etc)) so that google doesn't think you are just stuffing keywords.

Have you considered also adding an image sitemap.xml to your site to make it easier for Google to crawl all of the files you want etc. You could use something like Screaming Frog to generate one for you.
-
Thank you Oleg!
Unfortunately, I do ALL those things and I still can't seem to get my images to appear. I am a photographer, so I use the word "portrait" "photography" "photographer" as well as "newborn" and "baby" and maybe it thinks I'm keyword stuffing. But the reality is just about every picture I display is a "newborn baby picture" or "baby photograph." Is it possible that Google thinks I'm trying to spam it by using these words over and over, even if they are words that accurately describe what's in the image?
-
Make sure...
- file name contains keywords
- wherever you use the image, make sure the alt text and title text is keyword friendly
- the image appears on a page that is relevant to the main keywords
- the text surrounding the image (e.g. caption) gives the image more context as well
Don't worry about exif/meta data.

Favicon not showing in google serps
Hi, I have a website where the favicon is not showing in the google mobile serps. It's appearing the default icon instead (world icon). This is the tag I have place in the head section of the website: <link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" /> The size of the favicon is 48x48 and it's appearing correctly in the browser tag. I've checked that the google robot can crawl it and in the server logs I can see requests from the "Google Favicon" user-agent. Has anyone had this same problem? Any advice?

How to rank in Google Places
Normally, I don't have a problem with local SEO (more of a multi-channel sort of online marketing guy) but this one has got me scratching my head. Look at https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=wedding+venues+in+essex Theres two websites there (fennes and quendon park) that both have a much more powerful DA but don't appear in the Google Places (Google + Business or whatever it's labeled as). Why are websites such as Boreham house ranking top in the map listings? Quendon Park has a Google places listing, it's full of content, the NAP all matches up. Its a stronger website. Boreham House isn't any closer to the centroid than Quendon Park Just got me struggling this one

Where does Google pull the date stamp?
We're a news media site with content that has been live for a few years. All of a sudden, Google is showing our content (even though no one has touched the file) with a date stamp of '3 days ago'. Even for content that is years old. I checked the date it was last cached, and it doesn't even match. The URLs were last cached on January 16, but the date stamp says '3 days ago.' From where does Google pull the date stamp? Any ideas?

What else: struggling with google position
Hi. I understand everyone is offering their time for free here so any advice or support is much appreciated. http://www.cytronex.com
Technical SEO | | AdamJamesCytronex
PA 44 || mR 4.6 || mT 5.73 || 986 links from 43 Root Domains
DA 33 || 3,942 links from 71 Domains We've dropped from position 25ish to position 70ish in keyword searches for 'electric bikes'. I've tried everything and I just don't understand! It's genuine content, the actual product is increasingly popular, we have several links from sites which are (well, to my mind) reasonable quality. I've only just been brought in to look at this and my lack of any SEO or web experience is not putting my boss off expecting an instant solution 😞 As I'm only just getting to grips with it, Analytics was only installed about a month ago so I can't pin point a moment when it dropped. We're consistently out-positioned by sites with lower PA/DA scores. Any insight anyone might have would be amazing! Thanks

Should i Change On Page Optimization ?
Hi, PC monitoring and computer monitoring software are our targeted keywords. Around 5 weeks ago, We created a page for pc monitoring software (home/pc-monitoring-software) and did some bookmarking and guest posts targeting PC monitoring software keyword. Now we are in Top 15 on Google for PC monitoring software keyword . Initially we were thinking to change content of around 2 year old home page to adjust computer monitoring software keyword and do SEO for this keyword. But few days ago, we noticed that our pc-monitoring-software page is already ranking in early fourties for computer monitoring software keyword as well. May be Google is giving advatage of being synonym of PC . Now we are thinking that we should optimize the PC monitoring software page for both computer and PC software keywords like adding "computer monitoring software" in addition to existing "pc monitoring software" in title and similalrly do other on page related work for Computer Mnitoring Software. We are also thinking of doing 301 redirect of existing pc-monitoring-software page to new computer-monitoring-software page which will be optimized both for PC and Computer. Please suggest me if it will help to get good ranking for both PC and Computer Monitoring software if we make above mentioned changes or we should not change the existing pc-monitoring-software page and shall stick to earlier plan of changing the home page to adjust for computer monitoring software.? I'm new to SEO, so want to make wise decision with your help instead of learning with failures. Thanks, shahzad

Google has not been visiting my site
Hi I am working on a site at the moment http://www.cheapflightsgatwick.com and i had the site using a different template and in the search engines for the search term cheap flights gatwick we were fourth and for the term holiday magazine we were 12th in google but now we are not even in google on the first page for the search terms. But now after changing the template in joomla our rankings have gone out of the window. It took me about a day to sort out the site with the new template so i was not expecting any problems with the search engines but for some reason there is. If you put into the search engine www.cheapflightsgatwick.com then you will see that google has not visited the site for four days and also it is not showing the description and instead it is showing details about joomla. Can anyone let me know if there is anything i need to do to sort this out and why google is taking so long to visit my site
