Partial duplicate content (reviews) on product pages - is this ok?
-
Hello,
we recently received some really good reviews about a range of products we sell (there are normally 8 products in a range). Due to the industry we are in it made no sense to try and get reviews on each individual product within the range as they differ only ever so slightly.
So my question is we want to add these reviews to each of the 8 products that lie within each range, but by adding them it would mean that each page has around 600 words of unique product description followed by approx 600 words of reviews that are the same on each of the products within that range.
Is this ok? my only other option would be to screenshot the reviews and upload them as images below each product description.
If anyone could offer advice here that would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Adam,
It depends on the product but I would suggest only having one page if the products are so similar. For example, if you are talking about widgets of different colours, i would suggest having one widget page that allows users to select the colour that they want from a drop-down menu. By doing this, you should have one stronger page with unique content and several reviews instead of several, largely similar, pages.
Does that help?

Thats really helpful Marcus, thanks very much !

Hey
Can't see it hurting in practice. Small amount of reviews. Small amount of total pages.
SEO best practices can often drive us a little crazy so it's always best to think about what is right for your users and if these are the right reviews for those pages then they are the right reviews for those pages.
Determine some KPIs for these pages, implement the reviews and measure the results:
- Keyword Rankings for pages
- Click through rate
- Time on page
- Conversion rate / lead gen
But there is more than just SEO to consider here but generally if you do what is truly right for your users and sprinkle some SEO smarts on top then you will rarely hurt your ranking / engagement / conversion.
Implement - measure - iterate.
Hope that helps.
Marcus

Do multipe empty search result pages count as duplicate content?
I am writing an online application that among other things allows the users to search through our database for results. Pretty simply stuff. My question is this. When the site is starting out, there will probably be a lot of searches that will bring back empty pages since we will still be building it up. Each page will dynamically generate the title tags, description tags, H1, H2, H3 tags - so that part will be unique - but otherwise they will be almost identical empty results pages until then. Would Google Count all these empty result pages as duplicate content? Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

Page Content
Our site is a home to home moving listing portal. Consumers who wants to move his home fills a form so that moving companies can cote prices. We were generating listing page URL’s by using the title submitted by customer. Unfortunately we have understood by now that many customers have entered exactly same title for their listings which has caused us having hundreds of similar page title. We have corrected all the pages which had similar meta tag and duplicate page title tags. We have also inserted controls to our software to prevent generating duplicate page title tags or meta tags. But also the page content quality not very good because page content added by customer.(example: http://www.enakliyat.com.tr/detaylar/evden-eve--6001) What should I do. Please help me.

Container Page/Content Page Duplicate Content
My client has a container page on their website, they are using SiteFinity, so it is called a "group page", in which individual pages appear and can be scrolled through. When link are followed, they first lead to the group page URL, in which the first content page is shown. However, when navigating through the content pages, the URL changes. When navigating BACK to the first content page, the URL is that for the content page, but it appears to indexers as a duplicate of the group page, that is, the URL that appeared when first linking to the group page. The client updates this on the regular, so I need to find a solution that will allow them to add more pages, the new one always becoming the top page, without requiring extra coding. For instance, I had considered integrating REL=NEXT and REL=PREV, but they aren't going to keep that up to date.

Duplicate content
I have just ran a report in seomoz on my domain and has noticed that there are duplicate content issues, the issues are: www.domainname/directory-name/ www.domainname/directory-name/index.php All my internal links and external links point to the first domain, as i prefer this style as it looks clear & concise, however doing this has created duplicate content as within the site itself i have an index.php page inside this /directory-name/ to show the page. Could anyone give me some advice on what i should do please? Kind Regards
