Backlinking question
-
Hello everyone!
I currently work for a software company that sell's CRM software for product sellers and one of our options along with this service is a website builder option that can provide the client with a website with several different templates to choose from.
Currently, we have over 500 clients using these website templates and I noticed that they are all under the same IP address.
My question is, in terms of a backlinking effort, would it be beneficial if we included a link to our company's website on the footer on each of these templates? Example could be: Powered by: (company's name) and have the name a link to our site.
I'm worried that this could be seen negatively by Google if we dofollowed these links or the fact that they are all under the same IP.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks

Hi there
I would be extremely careful here, according to Google this would be considered a link scheme. One of the examples are as follows:
- Widely distributed links in the footers or templates of various sites
While I understand your intentions are good, this is an old link tactic that Google and other search engines caught on to awhile back. I would recommend against it and instead focusing on brand building via content, SEO, and other opportunities.
Let me know if this helps or doesn't make sense. Good luck!

Hi Paul,
There should be no problem unless you try to manipulate SERPs with that links. As you suggested just set as anchor your brand.
In my case, I'd mark them as NoFollow, just to do not risk anything.
Regarding all being in the same IP, you should not worry much. But remember only for branding.
Best Luck.
GR.

Why would backlinks trump content and keywords / DA?
While analyzing competition, I frequently see backlinks being the biggest factor at deciding rank for keywords, while content and keyword page grading can say great things, it always comes down to backlinks it seems. Even our DA is better or equal, Why would this be?

" Q: I have a blog and it constantly black links to my ranking page, is this considered bad? Q: I have an active forum that I go to and I am constantly contributing to the topic however i will always try to relate back to my website, is this considered spammy too?

Sitewide link to a sister site question
I own two websites that are somewhat related. On Site A, in the nav bar below the header I had a link to Site B. The nav bar shows on all several hundred pages. A few weeks ago I got nervous about this as I was doing some reading about sitewide links. Not exactly sure if they were a bad thing or not in this specific case, I decided to change the nav bar so that the link to Site B only showed up on Site A's home page. Well, within a week or so my site started dropping from its long-held #1 position for its main, high-volume keyword, slipping a bit every few days. Today it is #4. My question is, would the removal of the sitewide links and replacement of them with just a link on the homepage cause something like this to happen? And, I'm thinking about putting the sidewide menu link back in -- is this a bad idea? Note: the ranking on Site B is very important, with double the RPM of Site A.

Backlinks and Domain Authority
Hi there, I have a question on backlinks. I have seen conflicting stories about it, and hoping someone with a vast amount of experience will be able to help me (If you could please be so kind). Now I understand the difference between 'no-follow' links and 'follow' links. I have accumulated quite a few 'no-follow' links through things like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter etc. I understand that they won't feed my site authority or trust; or anything of that sort (I do work on content too, and have gotten a few follow links, don't worry). Now I have seen conflicting answers to the actual importance of them. Some things I have read are saying that SEs completely ignore them (NFL), and they don't even consider them a 'link', but rather a user tool to further the experience of the reader on your site. Which is fair enough, but then people are turning around and also saying that Google relies heavily on them, and they only make up 5% of the internet or something. I have even read something saying they are the only ones worth getting (I know that is bs, but they must have a reason behind this thought?). If someone could enlighten me as to a 'ideal' ratio, and also any little known authoritative sites I could look at submitting content to. I am in the plumbing business, and doing my own sites, so I'm no expert. Also, what are the importance of comment links? I don't go for them, but don't know if I should? Sorry for the mouthful, but I would really appreciate help on this matter. Kindest regards, Kyle The Plumber Bro's The Electrician Bro's

Got a link building question here
I've been doing a lot of back link analysis on my competitors and noticed that a lot of links are coming from wordpress.com, blog.com, blogspot.com, etc blogs. These are free blogs in the format of http://www.username.blogplatform.com. These individual blogs seem to have product reviews and mentions for many different products (we are an e-commerce website). I would like to know if anyone has done any outreach to the owners of the third party blogs. This looks very different from guest blogging and I want to know if there is a way to reach out to these blog owners in order for them to write something about our products. Please let me know if anyone had any success with this, Thank you

Backlinking post penguin
Does anyone have any effective strategies about how to backlink for a new website. I'm just really cautious of this new penguin update and don't want to submit to too many directories or do anything that will get penalised, seen as the website is new.
