Rel language
-
This site ranks well in the States and Austraila. Would rel language tags help with search for both states? https://www.dinkleboo.com/
Separating duplicate content.
Or how would you go about increasing ranking? The site ranks higher in the states than Austrailia but they want to increase their presence in AU.
US Position 4.9k
AU Position 1.3

Howdy.
Hmm.. Hreflang is for telling google that there is the same article/page/post, just in different language. It doesn't really have much to do with actual rankings, unless you already have bunch of duplicate content. Since you said you are separating duplicate content, there shouldn't be any issues (btw, what exactly do you mean by "Separating duplicate content"?).
As for rankings improvements - SEO, links, competitions research etc. Most likely the reason of ranking lower in AU due to AU competition. Or are the competitors who are outranking you in AU are the same as the ones which are not outranking you is US?

Switching from HTTP to HTTPS: 301 redirect or keep both & rel canonical?
Hey Mozzers, I'll be moving several sites from HTTP to HTTPS in the coming weeks (same brand, multiple ccTLDs). We'll start on a low traffic site and test it for 2-4 weeks to see the impact before rolling out across all 8 sites. Ideally, I'd like to simply 301 redirect the HTTP version page to the HTTPS version of the page (to get that potential SEO rankings boost). However, I'm concerned about the potential drop in rankings, links and traffic. I'm thinking of alternative ways and so instead of the 301 redirect approach, I would keep both sites live and accessible, and then add rel canonical on the HTTPS pages to point towards HTTP so that Google keeps the current pages/ links/ indexed as they are today (in this case, HTTPS is more UX than for SEO). Has anyone tried the rel canonical approach, and if so, what were the results? Do you recommend it? Also, for those who have implemented HTTPS, how long did it take for Google to index those pages over the older HTTP pages?

Whats the best way to implement rel = “next/prev” if we have filters?
Hi everyone, The filtered view results in paginated content and has different urls: example: https://modli.co/dresses.html?category=45&price=13%2C71&size=25 Look at what it says in search engine land: http://searchengineland.com/implementing-pagination-attributes-correctly-for-google-114970 Look at Advanced Techniques paragraph. do you agree? it seem like google will index the page multiple times for every filter variant. Thanks, Yehoshua

Should We Add the W3.org Language Tag To Every Page Or Just The Home Page?
Greetings, We have five international sites around the world, two of which are in difference languages. Currently we have the following line of html code on the home page of each of the sites: Clearly, we need to change the "en" portion for the sites that aren't in English, but, should we include that meta tag in each of the site's pages, or will the home page suffice. Thanks!

RSS and rel = prev/next for pagination
I've noticed on moz report an alert about having to many links on my rss page. http://disneyticketsfree.com/rss/news-updates.html Is using google pagination the way to go? http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/09/pagination-with-relnext-and-relprev.html If you look at entries they are all about Orlando travel related topics. Thanks to the community in advance.

What does this kind of rel="canonical" mean?
It looks like our CMS may not be configured correctly as there is an empty section in the rel="canonical" rel="canonical" href="{page_uri}" /> Will having the above meta tag be harmful to our SEO?

Is it ok to add rel=CANONICAL into the desktop version on top of the rel="alternate" Tag (Mobile vs Desktop version)
Hi mozzers, We launched a mobile site a couples months ago following the parallel mobile structure with a URL:m.example.com The week later my moz crawl detected thousands of dups which I resolved by implementing canonical tags on the mobile version and rel=alternate onto the desktop version. The problem here is that I still also got Dups from that got generated by the CMS. ?device=mobile ?device=desktop One of the options to resolve those is to add canonicals on the desktop versions as well on top of the rel=alternate tag we just implemented. So my question here: is it dangerous to add rel=canonical and rel=alternate tags on the desktop version of the site or not? will it disrupt the rel=canonical on mobile? Thanks

To "Rel canon" or not to "Rel canon" that is the question
Looking for some input on a SEO situation that I'm struggling with. I guess you could say it's a usability vs Google situation. The situation is as follows: On a specific shop (lets say it's selling t-shirts). The products are sorted as follows each t-shit have a master and x number of variants (a color). we have a product listing in this listing all the different colors (variants) are shown. When you click one of the t-shirts (eg: blue) you get redirected to the product master, where some code on the page tells the master that it should change the color selectors to the blue color. This information the page gets from a query string in the URL. Now I could let Google index each URL for each color, and sort it out that way. except for the fact that the text doesn't change at all. Only thing that changes is the product image and that is changed with ajax in such a way that Google, most likely, won't notice that fact. ergo producing "duplicate content" problems. Ok! So I could sort this problem with a "rel canon" but then we are in a situation where the only thing that tells Google that we are talking about a blue t-shirt is the link to the master from the product listing. We end up in a situation where the master is the only one getting indexed, not a problem except for when people come from google directly to the product, I have no way of telling what color the costumer is looking for and hence won't know what image to serve her. Now I could tell my client that they have to write a unique text for each varient but with 100 of thousands of variant combinations this is not realistic ir a real good solution. I kinda need a new idea, any input idea or brain wave would be very welcome. 🙂
