Should I actively filter very similar questions (but not worded identically) and answers for my Q/A Website?
-
We're setting up a medical Q/A on our website. I anticipate a lot of questions being asked, which we have already answered before through other questions in the Q/A.
For example "How do I plan my pregnancy if I am Diabetic?" , "I have been Diabetic for the past 5 years, and am planning to start a family.
What should be my approach regarding this? Should I:
-
Write two different answers for each question, but which will eventually have the same meaning. Some answers could end up looking almost identical.
-
Redirect new questions to the old question by posting a link of the answer.
-
Merging the two questions, or deleting on of the two.
What is the best solution for maximising SEO Benefits, and minimizing the chances of a penalty?
-
-
Option A is definitely the one that is going to be the best long-term approach. Google wants unique content and anything you can do to give them this is a winner.

Thanks Andy, we are installing the theme Q/A Engine for our QA It will look like a cleaner version of this: http://preview.themeforest.net/item/qaengine-question-and-answer-wordpress-theme/full_screen_preview/7972399?_ga=1.110018693.144419010.1485926558.
Basically, there are two approaches I could take:
a) Have 3-4000 well-differentiated questions.
b) Have 7-8000 questions, some of which will have a lot of overlapp and will be similar (but not identical).
What would be better from an SEO perspective?
Making sure the questions are well-differentiated will also require some investment, so will it be worthwhile.

Hi,
I would certainly not be wanting to see duplicate answers to the same questions, so depending on how your Q&A will work, I would be looking to give one answer, unless there is a significant difference.
It's a little difficult to understand how your Q&A is presented and how answers are given, so would be happy to take a quick look if you post a link here or PM it to me?

My brand name has 2 words but Google only indexing as 1 word. Is there a fix?
Hi all...I'm at a loss. I've never had this happen. Google only shows pages of my site when I search the brand name as one word. When I Google the site as one word BrandBrand- it only shows my blog page and about us page plus Twitter and Facebook on page 1. The homepage does not show up at all. When I Google the site as two words Brand Brand - My Facebook page is on page 1 but nothing else. The homepage isn't showing up at all. When I search both words on Bing and Yahoo both are indexing it as two words and shows on page 1. Any ideas?

Keywords and stop words
Hello, I'm trying to rank my page for this keyword: "Rehab Royal Oak Michigan" But when you use that in a sentence, it just doesn't work. To make it grammatically correct I need to use "Rehab in Royal Oak Michigan" But now i'm using a stop word and i'm not sure if this counts it as a synonym or not - can someone help? Thanks!!

Home Pages of Several Websites are disappearing / reappearing in Google Index
Hi, I periodically use the Google site command to confirm that our client's websites are fully indexed. Over the past few months I have noticed a very strange phenomenon which is happening for a small subset of our client's websites... basically the home page keeps disappearing and reappearing in the Google index every few days. This is isolated to a few of our client's websites and I have also noticed that it is happening for some of our client's competitor's websites (over which we have absolutely no control). In the past I have been led to believe that the absence of the home page in the index could imply a penalty of some sort. This does not seem to be the case since these sites continue to rank the same in various Google searches regardless of whether or not the home page is listed in the index. Below are some examples of sites of our clients where the home page is currently not indexed - although they may be indexed by the time you read this and try it yourself. Note that most of our clients are in Canada. My questions are: 1. has anyone else experienced/noticed this? 2. any thoughts on whether this could imply some sort of penalty? or could it just be a bug in Google? 3. does Google offer a way to report stuff like this? Note that we have been building websites for over 10 years so we have long been aware of issues like www vs. non-www, canonicalization, and meta content="noindex" (been there done that in 2005). I could be wrong but I do not believe that the site would keep disappearing and reappearing if something like this was the issue. Please feel free to scrutinize the home pages to see if I have overlooked something obvious - I AM getting old. site:dietrichlaw.ca - this site has continually ranked in the top 3 for [kitchener personal injury lawyers] for many years. site:burntucker.com - since we took over this site last year it has moved up to page 1 for [ottawa personal injury lawyers] site:bolandhowe.com - #1 for [aurora personal injury lawyers] site:imranlaw.ca - continually ranked in the top 3 for [mississauga immigration lawyers]. site:canadaenergy.ca - ranks #3 for [ontario hydro plans] Thanks in advance! Last Part Breadcrumb Trail Active or Non-Active
Breadcrumbs have been debated quite a bit in the past. Some claim that the last part of the breadcrumb trail should be non-active to inform users they have reached the end. In other words, Do not link the current page to itself. On the other hand, that portion of the breadcrumb would won't be displayed in the SERPS and if it was may lead to a higher CTR. Foe example: www.website.com/fans/panasonic-modelnumber panasonic-modelnumber would not be active as part of the breadcrumb. What is your take?

How to redirect my .com/blog to my server folder /blog ?
Hello SEO Moz ! Always hard to post something serious for the 04.01 but anyway let's try ! I'm releasing Joomla websites website.com, website.com/fr, website.com/es and so on. Usually i have the following folders on my server [ROOT]/com [ROOT]/com/fr [ROOT]/com/es However I would like to get the following now (for back up and security purpose). [ROOT]/com [ROOT]/es [ROOT]/fr So now what can I do (I gues .htaccess) to open the folder [ROOT]/es when people clic on website.com/es ? It sounds stupid but I really don't know. I found this on internet but did not answer my needs. .htaccess RewriteEngine On

I will premise this question by saying I am not a developer, so please forgive my ignorance on this one. Is there a way to achieve an expandable/collapsible without relying on javascript? Thanks all! Dana

Yoast canonical SEO question
Hi I've installed Yoasts SEO plugin. I've just set it up as a campaign in SEOMOZ pro and i now see 14 notices about rel=canonical. I haven't added the rel=canonical myself and is in connection with the Yoast code on the site. Why does it do that and should i do something about it?
