We are moving to HTTPS and wanted to know if our link building efforts were in vain or will the link juice pass to HTTPS?
-
We are switching to HTTPS and want to make sure the links we've gotten in the past will still transfer since they are pointing to HTTP? I'd hate to go back through and ask people to please add an s to the link.

To echo the previous responses, rely on redirects to successfully migrate your site to HTTPS without any hitches. Afterall, security has been a top priority for Google and since they've called for HTTPS everywhere across the web, they're likely to reward those who stay up with the trends. Read more about it here: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2014/08/https-as-ranking-signal.html

Yes, indeed. HTTPS does carry a minor ranking signal. A nice article on this (and the other benefits of migrating from HTTP to HTTPS, here: http://searchengineland.com/http-https-seos-guide-securing-website-246940

If i'm correct, i'm sure Google use https:// as a minor SEO ranking factor now so it should only improve your SEO and as Hurf mentioned you need to push your traffic from the old http:// to the https://.
You'll also need to reconfigure your webmaster console to work with https://yoursite.com, then select this as the default URL appearance.
Hope this helps!

You'd want to create a redirect (usually within .htaccess - assuming you are using a Linux & Apache setup) which will automatically redirect from HTTP to HTTPS:
RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
Your web host will likely have information about this in their support section or simply Google "301 redirect from http to https" More useful 301 reading: [https://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection](https://moz.com/learn/seo/redirection) and, if you're still hungry for more: [https://moz.com/blog/301-redirection-rules-for-seo](https://moz.com/blog/301-redirection-rules-for-seo) This guide on migrating from HTTP to HTTPS might be useful reading for you, too: [https://www.keycdn.com/blog/http-to-https](https://www.keycdn.com/blog/http-to-https/) I hope that helps. Good Luck!

But more the actual hands on Back linking strategy. I feel that a lot of the back linking information out there is so mixed.Rand did a White board Friday lesson on the new link building strategies. Are the following considered bad links for Link Building.
I've been doing a lot of research lately on link building & I've read a lot about having a diverse amount of links. Social links, Blog links, comment links, footer links, No follow links, Directory links as well as links with Anchor text URL match, brand match, partial brand match, non-descriptive, and with keywords. But there is a lot of talk of removing those links that look like a site that's built just for link building purposes.... but Directories are basically built for link building are they not? I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if they feel links from the following directories would be bad links. (Non-Paid) http://www.yoganza.com http://www.wkool.com http://www.wee-directory.com http://www.voicelet.com www.hotfrog.ca http://www.webdirectorieslist.com http://multiplelistingboard.com http://mozdirectory.net http://freedirectorypr.info Industry specific below: http://bestautolinks .com http://automotivedome.com http://automobilebuzz.com http://craigsautolinks.com Thanks so much for the help!

Link Building for Landing Page
Hey Guys, I have a client that is launching a website in about 2-3 months time. They have had a flash site for the last 4 years and have had no SEO/Link Building to the site and are now going to undertake my services for Content Strategy, Social Strategy and Link Building. In the interim (from now till the next 3 months) they will be launching a "coming soon" landing page. What I want to know is when doing their initial link building do I just concentrate on brand related links through local directories with the aim of getting a few local keyterms? Or should we be deploying a longer term strategy of going after the competitive keyterms now? Thanks,

Do VigLink links get indexed, and then pass SEO juice to the merchant?
You can find the service at viglink.com, they do dynamic linking to anchor text for participating publishers on a cost-per-click basis. Less interested here in the conversion quality and more interested in the broad SEO value. Any ideas?

Link building for rankings VS Link building for relationships
A Big Shout To Everyone -- Good Morning and What's Up 🙂 As I read today through seomoz professional guide to link building and the section why link building matters and in addition to this a newsletter I received today that changed my whole thinking towards link building for rankings vs for relationships. It is already happening on social networks if you are active there, but what about on your website. What are your thoughts on the following ? Google's job is provide the most relevant results to surfers online, and looking the link profile of a site & the page itself is the key to determining which page to serve on plate to the surfers link query ! Webmasters Site Objective:

I think that we as webmasters have to ask ourselves what do we want to achieve with link building. To get quick traffic or build slow authority links, high rankings, lead generation, sales & other things here I may be missing etcccc Other Objective Networking & Relationship Building Alliances : What I discovered today is that building links for 1st page rankings are great and will provide me with steady traffic, but not all of it is targeted traffic, but what else can I do to bring targeted traffic and at the same time try to build alliances with other related non competing business owners online. The idea... is to apply old school networking / relationship building alliances to get targeted traffic to my site that can actually benefit from my services. How Do We Achieve This I become a editor for approving resource links for me site, only the best will be placed on my site as a resource. Build a valuable tightly themed categorized resource section with related non competing resources that can help my sites visitors find what they are looking for, send visitors to non competing resources that may purchase their services which helps me build a relationship with them, and may can with rankings as well, provided I am selective with my qualification process. Questions & Concerns Below : What should I be thinking about when creating a resource categorized links page How many outgoing do follow links should I allow from this links partner page How will this links resource page affect my own SE 1st Page Rankings and is it worth it based on getting targeted traffic Any pros / cons I may be missing here0
