Duplicate content, despite having correct canonical tags
-
Hi there
We've run a report today which shows we have 157 pages with duplicate content. Out of these 157, 134 have canonical tags so I'm not sure why they're showing up in the reports as being duplicate.
Here's an example, this page:
https://www.havaianasaustralia.com.au/Accessories?category=beach-towels
.....has an canonical of:
http://www.havaianasaustralia.com.au/beach-towels-havaianas-accessories
But it's still showing as duplicated in your reports.
Any support would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello Jacob,
Thanks for reaching out, Jo from the Moz support team here.
I've investigated your example and it looks like Accessories?category=beach-towels has 15 duplicates with canonical tags pointing to different URLs. For canonicals to work they need to point to the same URL.
I've exported the csv from your Moz Pro Site Crawl and located your example URL below:
https://www.havaianasaustralia.com.au/Accessories?category=beach-towels
From here I've scrolled over to the Duplicate URL column and grabbed those URLs then checked the page source for the rel=canonical tag.
Here are a couple of examples of what I've found:
It looks like this page https://www.havaianasaustralia.com.au/Accessories?category=keyrings
Has this tag rel="canonical" href="http://www.havaianasaustralia.com.au/Accessories"/>
This page https://www.havaianasaustralia.com.au/Accessories?category=towels
Has this tag rel="canonical" href="http://www.havaianasaustralia.com.au/towels-havaianas-accessories">
So the page Accessories?category=beach-towels will be picked up as having duplicates as those 15 pages have 90% of the same code between pages. This includes all the source code on the page and not just the viewable text.
You can also run your own check using this tool: http://smallseotools.com/similar-page-checker/
I hope this helps, if there is anything else I can help you with please do let me know
Cheers!

Use a National Brands name in your content
Moz Page Optimizer - content suggestions offer national name brands as KW content to rank higher. I can easily write it into our copy but is it ethical, even with a statement like: "This is not a Fathead product" of "the same as the Fatheads seen on TV" I say no, but curious to get my Mozzers feedback KJr

How spam score will be calculated for the domain without any content or backlinks?
Hi Moz team, I have noticed that one of our old domain has high spam score of 9. This has been redirected to our domain around 2 years back. I can see that old domain doesn't have any back links. Then how come the spam score have been calculated for this? If there is any metric for this, we just wanna remove redirecting this spammy old domain to our domain. Please clarify. Thanks

How Do You Deal With Duplicate Content On A Retail Site
Hi Guys We make custom portfolios and boxes and every time we have a Moz site crawl, Rogerbot always returns a number of Duplicate Content Issues relating to different products. As per the image below (which I hope is visible?!) Rogerbot has flagged duplicate content onto one product that relates to 5 other different products. For instance there is duplicate content for an A4 Leather Portfolio and an A3 Leather Portfolio and an 11"x17" Leather Portfolio. I can't redirect or canonicalise to just the A4 Portfolio as they are all individually different products. The information on each page although similar, is relevant to each of the products, so rewriting a different blurb on each product page, will not be user friendly for our customers. I could ignore the duplicate content issues, but then that isn't good practise (and also makes for a very unsatisfactory looking Dashboard!) Any ideas?? Nick wzQLgBl

How do I fix 885 Duplicate Page Content Errors appearing in my Moz Report due to categories?
Hi There, I want to set up my Moz report to send directly to a client however there are currently 885 duplicate page content errors displaying on the report. These are mostly caused by an item listed in multiple 'categories' and each category is a new pages/URL. I guess my questions are: 1. Does Google see these as duplicate page content? Or does it understand the categories are there for navigation purposes. 2. How do I clear these off my Moz report so that the client doesn't panic that there are some major issues on the site Thanks for your advice.

Why is moz telling me I have duplicate content, but neither the content nor the urls are duplicates?
I just upgraded our website to a new one. This is the first crawl of the new website. It is telling me I have 24 Critical issues, all of which are duplicate content errors. Thing is, the urls are not duplicates and the content on the page is not duplicated either. Example, here is one error where it says there are two duplicates: <colgroup><col width="595"></colgroup>

Duplicate Home Page
'Content that is identical (or nearly identical) to content on other pages of your site forces your pages to unnecessarily compete with each other for rankings.' Can anyone tell me why this is the case? I know for a fact that their are no other duplicates of my home page, however moz disagrees. Cheers for any help. **Taylor **
