Title tag for category page
-
I’d love some clarification on what would be the best title tag for a shopping category page. The category page is “prams” , the brand is Baby Huddle and the top keywords in order of importance are pushchairs, strollers and buggies.
Here are the options I suggest:
-
Buy Prams | Pushchairs, Strollers, Buggies | Baby Huddle
-
Buy the best prams, pushchairs, strollers and buggies on Baby Huddle
-
Buy prams with free delivery and great prices on Baby Huddle
-
-
Yes, that's making sense now.
Just don't forget the hyphen
-
Hi Dan, That's exactly correct. The category pram has essentially sub categories for pushchairs and strollers which also happen to be the top keywords for Pram thus why I was thinking a title tag for the pram category as Prams | Pushchairs, Strollers | Baby Huddle. What do you think?
-
Hi
It depends. Are you going to have an individual page just for "pushchairs" "strollers" etc? If NO, then use keywords first. If YES, and these are going to be lower level pages, then put "Category" first on the category page, and put each keyword first on the corresponding sub-page.
You can see that some of this gets into how the site all fits together, so thinking about it a little more holistically is important. What the flow of page to page is like for the user, and what makes sense from an architecture standpoint.

Thanks Aran, the reason I have the word "buy" is because I have other types of category pages which deal with "Prams" which aren't shopping related. The reason also why I put brand at the end instead of the front is because "Baby Huddle" isn't a recognizable brand and from what I understand you always put your top keyword at the front.
-
Thanks Malachi, however this is for a category page that contains unique content and a list of prams. Thus why I thought: Category - Keywords - Company
-
Thanks Dan, that's an interesting idea. However why not put the category first so that matches with the H1? So by using your example I'd have:
Prams - Pushchairs, Strollers & Buggies | Baby Huddle.
-
I agree with this.. put PRODUCT first followed by CATEGORY, and COMPANY last. you want to focus on what the customer cares about... usually the product.
-
I like:
Pushchairs, Strollers & Buggies - Prams | Baby Huddle
I know it seems insignifigant, but I like it with that EXACT formatting (the hypen etc). Remember, you want this to be user friendly in the SERPs and on the page itself. And not just SEO friendly. So the format is:
keyword, keyword - category | Brand
Also, you then might want to make your url and H1 match the keyword portion of the title tag, for good overall on page optimization.

Personally, I'd drop the word 'Buy' and have the following
Baby Huddle | Prams | Pushchairs, Strollers, Buggies
I assume this is a brand sub category of the Prams category, thus I'd have the brand first.

Deleted pages still registering as 404 pages.
I have a an all html site that I can only work on through the ftp. The previous marketing company ran a script that built thousands of location landing pages, but all they did was change the tags and headers and the keywords in the pages, other than that they are all duplicate pages. I removed them, but Google is reading them as 404 pages. How do I tell Google those pages don't exist? or do I just need to let the bots crawl it a few times and it will see that eventually?

Category pages - SEO or deindex?
What is the best thing to do with category pages? Should I deindex them or use SEO on them? I use the Thesis theme and the Wordpress SEO plugin. I am just not sure what to do with category pages. Also will they create duplicate content?

Duplicate Page Title
I have a dating site, it's got a lot of duplicate page titles, most of them are the language buttons for the users to view the site in there language. but I think it's obvious that the buttons don't have anything to do with it. I'm thinking that page tittle is basically a description of what the site is. like for an example "online-dating" is this it? please tell me in terms for a dummy, how to fix it.

Phrase duplication within Title Tags
I'm creating a few hundred category level pages on my site, and am wondering if duplicating a phrase within each title tag is OK to do: Examples: 1) Title Tag for a page that provides brochure templates for the child care industry. - Title Desired: Child Care Brochure Templates | Brochure & Flyer Maker 2) Title Tag for a page that provides brochure templates for the financial services industry. ** - Title Desired: ** Financial Services Templates | Brochure & Flyer Maker Question: Is it OK to repeat what is after the pipe in each title tag (i.e. 'Brochure & Flyer Maker') on a few hundred category level pages. It's definitely an accurate description of what you will find on the page, however I don't want to run the risk of duplicate content / keyword stuffing issues. Essentially, can I use an exact duplicate phrase inside multiple title tags and be OK?...or is this not advised? I appreciate any advice or feedback. Thanks. -J
