How soon should links show up in OSE?
-
Just wondering, in general, how quickly newly placed inbound links should get indexed by Google, and show up in OSE?
-
I don't know how frequently Google will index new links. For OSE, the linkscape release date was the 25th, but the crawl was done probably a couple of weeks before that. It takes some time to crawl, then some time to process those results.

Thanks, Keri. Any idea how frequently Google will index new links? I see that linkscape was updated on the 25th and as of today I don't see the links being reflected in OSE. Is there a chance Google hasn't gotten to it yet?

Linkscape is updated about every four weeks (rather than the more frequent crawl of Google), so it can take a bit longer to show up in OSE. You can check the release dates for the Linkscape crawl at http://apiwiki.seomoz.org/w/page/25141119/Linkscape-Schedule. It might take a couple of cycles to show up in OSE, and keep in mind that Linkscape only crawls about 1/4 of the web that is out there.

My experience has been that links show up in Google before they show up in OSE. The time can vary but usually not more than about 6 weeks. (Often not that long, but does take time). If your links are not showing after that time and you have checked to insure you are indexed, headers ok, etc. I would suggest digging a bit deeper on the site to discover what is happening. Expecting links to show before a month is usually wishful thinking, though I have found links showing up in Yahoo site explorer sooner.

Backlinks vs External Links vs Referral Links vs Outbound links
Hello all, I was just wondering if you could explain the difference between all the links above? I'm confused as they all seem to be the same or similar and I would just like to clearly know what distinguishes them from eachother. Thanks for your help, Jayne

I have legit links from about a dozen .EDU sites. We do training for Universities. The links never show up in webmaster tools "Links to Your Site' and considering how many we have its amazing our rankings aren't better. It's almost as if google is ignoring them. Any thoughts?

Reciprocal links
I've heard that reciprocal links don't count anymore. If i stop linking to a person that links to me, will that link to my website start counting? Do reciprocal links count at all in google? Anchor text? anything? Thanks in advance! Ron

Finding links online that already exist as link juice based on search results
I'm curious about this, I can't find anything on the net that talks about it. I wrote an article about it on squidoo and have had no responses so I am thinking this is very rare subject. The question is I have done some backlink research with my competitors with linkdetective.com and found many links (even follow ones) related to sites that provide search results. Here are a link about what I am talking about as an example, I have found many more besides this one. http://search.lphant.com/es/webResults.html?q=free%20scrabble%20dictionary&hl=en&page=1&src=hmp_es&ref=1 My site appears in those results. When looking at the source there is no "nofollow". I found this page because linkdetective.com had this link listed pointing to my competitor. Are these valid backlinks? What I have been doing is adding these links to http://www.google.com/addurl so that Google knows about them. Is there something I am missing or are these valid?

Which is better - A) links from multiple IP addresses, or B) Links with more associated social signals?
If you had to choose: A) 100 links contained in posts on 100 PR2* blogs, all on separate IP addresses, where none of the posts had associated social signals, or B) 100 links contained in posts within a single PR2* blog (single IP address), where each of the posts had 20 associated social signals, Which would you choose to increase your SERP performance? *I chose PR2 so that PageRank would not be a factor in the decision.
