Why Aren't My Images Being Indexed?
-
Hi,
One of my clients submitted an image sitemap with 465 images. It was submitted on July 20 2017 to Google Search Console.
None of the submitted images have been indexed.
I'm wondering why?
Here's the image sitemap: http://www.tagible.com/images_sitemap.xml We do use a CDN for the images, and the images are hosted on a subdomain of the client's site: ex. https://photos.tagible.com/images/Les_Invalides_Court_Of_Honor.jpg
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Julian -
Thanks David! That definitely makes sense. We claimed photos.tagible.com in GSC, so hopefully that does it.
And yes, they are, but in an unusual way: http://tagible.com/project/denver-colorado/

Thanks Donna! I could see the 403 errors being an issue, as well as the robots.txt file not including the sitemap. I hadn't thought of that.
We're working on making sure the https issue is fixed.

Hi Julian,
The reason your GSC account isn't reporting your images as indexed is that they are on a different subdomain to your GSC account - GSC will only report indexed URLs that are on the exact subdomain of that account.
And are the images actually used on the site? None of them showed up in a Screaming Frog crawl...
Cheers,
David

It might be a permissions problem.
You have said the sitemap is here - http://www.tagible.com/images_sitemap.xml, which it is. But the robots.txt file (http://www.tagible.com/robots.txt) does not include that sitemap. It has 10 others, but not that one.
If one goes to the subdomain (https://photos.tagible.com/) or folder (https://photos.tagible.com/images/) where the images are hosted, there is a 403 (forbidden) return code. Crawlers may not be able to navigate to the folder with the images. The images themselves are accessible with a 200 return code, but not the subdomain or folder where they are stored.
I don't know if you're aware of it, but tagible.com, www.tagible.com, and photos.tagible.com are not redirecting to their https equivalents.

When you can't see the cache in search, is it about to be deindexed?
Here is my issue and I've asked a related question on this one. Here is the back story. Site owner had a web designer build a duplicate copy of their site on their own domain in a sub folder without noindexing. The original site tanked, the webdesigner site started outranking for the branded keywords. Then the site owner moved to a new designer who rebuilt the site. That web designer decided to build a dev site using the dotted quad version of the site. It was isolated but then he accidentally requested one image file from the dotted quad to the official site. So Google again indexed a mirror duplicate site (the second time in 7 months). Between that and the site having a number of low word count pages it has suffered and looked like it got hit again with Panda. So the developer 301 the version to the correct version. I was rechecking it this morning and the dotted quad version is still indexed, but it no longer lets me look at the cache version. Out of experience, is this just Google getting ready to drop it from the index?

Infinite Scrolling: how to index all pictures
I have a page where I want to upload 20 pictures that are in a slideshow. Idea is that pictures will only load when users scroll down the page (otherwise too heavy loading). I see documentation on how to make this work and ensure search engines index all content. However, I do not see any documentation how to make this work for 20 pictures in a slideshow. It seems impossible to get a search engines to index all such pictures, when it shows only as users scroll down a page. This is documentation I am already familiar with, and which does not address my issue:

Organic 'not provided data' - strip out brand?
I cannot strip out brand data on the 'not provided' keywords in Google analytics. Is this not possible anymore? I understand we cannot get specific keywords but can we no longer strip out brand on organic traffic in Google analytics for keywords that are 'not provided' ?

Will blocking google and SE's from indexing images hurt SEO?
Hi, We have a bit of a problem where on a website we are managing, there are thousands of "Dynamically" re-sized images. These are stressing out the server as on any page there could be upto 100 dynamically re-sized images. Google alone is indexing 50,000 pages a day, so multiply that by the number of images and it is a huge drag on the server. I was wondering if it maybe an idea to blog Robots (in robots.txt) from indexing all the images in the image file, to reduce the server load until we have a proper fix in place. We don't get any real value from having our website images in "Google Images" so I am wondering if this could be a safe way of reducing server load? Are there any other potential SEO issues this could cause?? Thanks

404'd pages still in index
I recently launched a site and shortly after performed a URL rewrite (not the greatest idea, i know). The developer 404'd the old pages instead of a permanent 301 redirect. This caused a mess in the index. I have tried to use Google's removal tool to remove these URL's from the index. These pages were being removed but now I am finding them in the index as just URL's to the 404'd page (i.e. no title tag or meta description). Should I wait this out or now go back and 301 redirect the old URL's (that are 404'd now) to the new URL's? I am sure this is the reason for my lack of ranking as the rest of my site is pretty well optimized and I have some quality links.

Pro's & Con's of registering your customers?
I know that making a user register will drop the the conversion rate. However, there are a lot of sites that still stand by making users register before you can purchase. I was wondering if they know something that I don't that would outweigh the loss of those conversions. What exactly are the Pro's & Con's of making your customers register before being able to purchase an item?
