Should blogger award badges/links be nofollowed?
-
I'm pretty sure the answer to this will be a big yes. Obviously this is a tactic that can be gamed quite easily, but I wanted to know if there are any clear guidelines on this.
We've done a post about the most influential food bloggers using our own tool, so there's proper data behind the top ten. We wanted to reach out and let them know, give them a badge to include that might drive a bit of traffic and raise some brand awareness.
That's why the question has come up as we want to make sure we advise the bloggers properly if a nofollow is best practice.

I still remember the old videos from Matt Cutts about widgets marketing. The issue is that many people have overused that strategy to squeeze over optimized anchor texts behind the widget, so many people ended up having a link pointing to a site without any editorial willingness to do this.
Matt Cutts wasn't against widgets per se but against the lack of a clear user intent to link to a site. Widgets and badges can still be used if used right. Have a look at TRIP which is still very highly widgets oriented.
If you create the article and offer a badge to embed on the food bloggers websites with a link back to the article I think it will be fine, as the badge should say something like
TOP 2017 food blogger as mentioned on domain.com, check it out!
and the link will point to the article where you're featuring them. I think it's natural and useful as it clearly states what's the purpose of the badge. A different thing would be if you try to squeeze multiple links or if you try to send users to another page of your website to try to boost it's rankings.
Do things correctly and no issues will arise.

Link building strategy - my weak link!
Please help me understand link building. I've read the articles on Moz, but they seem vague to me. Specific questions: 1. How do I get my webpage on good quality sites? 2. Guest blogging? Good or not? 3. What about when people pick up one of our blog stories and publish it on their site with a link back? Is that bad now because it is duplicate content??? 4. Forum posts with a link in the signature? Good or not? 5. Directories - I get it that these are no longer good... are they severely negative? Should I take them down. 6. PR - Looks like this is bad... right??? 7. Youtube - any value? 8. Pinterst, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram? Any value to backlinks here? 9. What about sites like redit? 10. Anything else I should consider?

Thoughts on creating a resource/recommend links page in order to attain links?
Hey guys, Just wondering, how does Google view reciprocal link building nowadays? I've heard in the past that it's something that Google isn't particularly keen on. However, more recently, I've also read that - as long as the links are decent (and in moderation) - link exchanging is by no means a bad thing. The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of creating a "resource/recommended links page" for a client of mine. Because of their industry, it's really apparent that attaining links is often only possible if there is the opportunity of a reciprocal link in return. Therefore, I'd need to have a resource/recommend links page of my own. Is this something I should go ahead with to make it much easier to attain links? Or should I try to avoid reciprocal links and attempt to pinpoint one-way linking opportunities - even if they're thin on the ground? Any help much as appreciated as always. Cheers.

Link to those that link to you? Worthwhile?
We have thousands and thousands of sites that link to a domain we are working on, many with low page authority and high domain (bloggers, forum posts, etc). Has anyone experimented with linking to the pages that link to you (not from your site) but from other means in an effort to boost their quality? I'm not sure what method we would use, maybe some relevant blog comments or social votes. But curious if this could be an effective method.
