Homepage optimized for main keyword - adding the same keyword to category
-
Hello,
We have a listing / classified advertisement website. The homepage is optimized for the main keyword lets say Prague clubs. The homepage shows around 50 latest listings.
Now the homepage is not ranking well for the keyword. (By not well i mean in 3 months we have no ranking in the target SERP)
Im thinking the issue might be that the keyword "Prague clubs" is not in any of the URL or category names.
What do you think if i name one of the categories also to lets say "best prague clubs". This way i will have around 50-80 urls having the target keyword in them. (advertisements + the category itself) Will this help or actually dilute the keyword? What you think?
-
Yes, I understand this.
But if we are talking about a concrete example. The categories have been divided into 5. All of the listings belonging to a category have the category name in the url.
Now testing it shows, that if the main keyword which you are trying to optimize the homepage for is not in any of the LISTING urls, the homepage does not rank with this keyword well.
My question: If my homepage is optimized for **"Prague clubs" and I name one of the categories to something similar (Best Prague clubs etc) and include the "Prague clubs" in the urls of the listings, will this benefit homepage ranking for the keyword or not? **
It would look like this: homepage (optimized for prague clubs, showing latest listings ) - category 1 (best prague clubs www.example.com**/best-prague-clubs) Listing url (www.example.com/prague-clubs/listing-123) .** Will this benefit the ranking of the homepage or it will actually make it weaker?
When we used URLs for listings like www.example.com/prague-club-listing-id it was easy to rank the homepage for the keyword. After moving to category URLS (/category-name/listing-id) homepage is not ranking (yet categories rank). My issue is that i optimized homepage for the main keyword, category keywords are a lot smaller volume ones.

Optimizing Forums
Hello Moz Team, I'd like to inquire about our forums section on how to optimize them the best way. So, we started a forums section and our audience likes them very much, we were able to get a few hundred subscribers and it has been very active http://violintutorpro.com/forums/ I created a campaign in Moz Analytics and it came back that we had tons of dupe content, all coming from the tags in the forums. We can remove the tags just so we won't have dupe content, but, how can we use each topic as a content on their own. We currently have a few hundred of dupe content.

Keywords Rankings-Change-Bug?
Bug? or just because the change happened beyound the Top 50 within Bing & Yahoo SERPs? The Keyword Ranking for in the example "dry desulfurization" shows a change of >40 up, but the history (Google) does not show these changes. May be, it is that the change was within Yahoo and Bing Rankings, and because the keyword is not showing up within the Top 50, I just can't see? ... but Rogerbot is considering. Thanks for any response 🙂 rankings-change-bug.jpg

Domain stuck at end of SERPs for main keywords
I'm trying to figure out why a site has been stuck at the end of the SERPs for almost a year. On August 5, 2011 the site went from getting 1,400 visits per day from Google down to 20 visits a day from Google. For the keywords it ranked on the first page for it went to the last page in the SERPs. With Panda and Penguin, it probably wouldn't rank like it used to, but it seems to be stuck in some sort of domain wide penalty that pins it to the end of the SERPs. Even when completely new content will show up at the end of the SERPs, which makes me think it's stuck in some sort of filter. Thanks in advance for any constructive ideas. Keyword stuffing
I'm working on this page at the moment - http://www.gear-zone.co.uk/berghaus-bid6.html. The keyword we're going for is, unsurprisingly, 'Berghaus'. The SEOmoz on page report has flagged up a possible issue with keyword stuffing as the term is mention around 25 times. Is it worth altering this, which could be quite tricky as a lot of the page is dynamically generated? Thanks!

No Sub-Categories in XML Sitemap
I have a couple of sites using 3dcart, the ecommerce platform. Their tech support recently told me that they do not list sub-categories in the XML sitemap, only products and top-tier categories. Am I the only one that sees a problem with this? Thanks
