Hreflag Tags - English language & multiple regions
-
My client is concerned about duplicate content on their site which has versions of the same page in multiple regions. All pages are english language and the regions are; Asia, North America, Australia, Europe, UK and Rest of the World. The url just changes the location to a folder e.g. .com/australia
My question is does anyone have any recommendations on how to handle this for Europe, Asia and Rest of the World? Any thoughts would be appreciated

First of all, you must ask your client if she target different regions like continents for some reason related to her business.
If not, then going multilingual is the best solution that trying to geotarget countries... also because, as Gaston wrote already, you cannot geotarget anything but nations: no continents, no political or economic states unions (like the UE).
If there's some justified business reason why the client needs to specify different versions for different large areas, then things can be weird, but there's a way to do it: using as many hreflang annotations as they are the countries present in a bigger geo area and targeted by a specific website.
Remember, in fact, that an URL can be annotated with as many hreflang annotations as needed.
i.e.: the www.domain.com targets Italy, UK and France with its English version but not other states for whatever reason (so not able to use simply hreflang="en") and Spain with the Spanish one, then its hreflang will be:
<rel="alternate" href="https://www.domain.com/" hreflang="es-ES"></rel="alternate">
<rel="alternate" href="https://www.domain.com/en/" hreflang="en-GB"></rel="alternate">
<rel="alternate" href="https://www.domain.com/en/" hreflang="en-IT"></rel="alternate">
<rel="alternate" href="https://www.domain.com/en/" hreflang="en-FR"></rel="alternate">
(I know it would be better to create an Italian and French version too, but this was just an example to give you an idea of what I was saying).

Thanks Gaston, appreciate the response. I was pretty sure that'd be the case but good to get another opinion!

Hello Jaimie,
In my opinion, I believe that your client should use hreflang tags with just language codes to capture all countries. Because there is no lannguage code for the whole Continent.
Or just create a page for every country you'd like to rank for. Here a few resources to help you more:

Onpage optimising for multiple sites
I’ve been given the task of optimizing a company’s websites (15 in total) that has multiple websites selling the same product. In terms of optimizing them, can I use the same set of meta descriptions, page title tags and key words for them all or do I need to produce a different set for each? The sites are for independently branded companies that are set up in a franchise-like arrangement. They all exclusively sell the parent companies joinery products

How can I use AMP html on a CMS
I have been trying to research using AMP to improve our mobile speed. We have a whole lot of sites on the same platform managed by a CMS. From what I have read, AMP html can only be used on static pages. Does that mean we would not be able to incorporate this into the html through our CMS? I would like to implement this across all our homepages to test the effectiveness of it if possible, but there is no way to rebuild all our homepages statically. Any advice is much appreciated!

Problems with Squarespace Title Tags
Hi All, I'm having problems editing the title tags on individual pages on Squarespace. It seems the only way to do it is via the page title name. Here is an example: http://www.autismsees.com/research/. The page is called research, so it makes that the meta title. The problem is I want to keep research on the page and the Meta Title be: Autism Spectrum Research. I'v tried searching over the web, but no luck so far. Thanks for your help.

Multiple IPs (load balancing) for same domain
Hello, I'm considering moving our main website to a multiple servers, perhaps in multiple different datacenters and use a DNS round robin load balancing by assigning it 4 different IP addresses (probably from 4 different C classes). example:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | maddogx
ourdomain.com A 1.1.1.1
ourdomain.com A 2.2.2.2
ourdomain.com A 3.3.3.3
ourdomain.com A 4.4.4.4 Every time you ping the domain you will get a response from another IP of the group. Therefore search engines will see a different IP each time they scan the site. We have used the main IP for our website for past 6 years without changing it. We have a quite good SEO in our niche which I don't want to loose of course. My question is, will adding more IPs to the domain affect any how on the ranking ? What is the suggested way to do it anyway? What is recommended to do before and after? Thanks for you attention and help in advance. Dmitry S.0 -
Shortening Keywords in a title tag
in my title tag i want to have: 3D Renders of Office Refurbishment & Interior Design Kent | Complete Group which unfortunatly is longer than 70 characters, however, to make it fit in 70 characters i could put: 3D Renders of Office Refurb & Interior Design Kent | Complete Group Notice that refurbishment has been changed to refurb, would this be ok for SEO purposes?

Original Source and Canonical tags
We've been using canonical links to protect site SEO for contributor content and requiring canonical of our partners (as well as tagging internal duplicate content with canonical). Most other media sites have been doing the same but this is a moving target. I'm now hearing that the original source tag is now a better option. Special focus for us is placement on google news. Any guidance?

Why should your title and H1 tag be different?
Is it dangerous to have your H1 tag and your title the exact same thing? My thought was that it's not be the best use of space, but that it couldn't cause harm. What do you think?
