Our company creates cobranded subdomains for our clients; does that hurt our SEO?
-
We create cobranded websites for local businesses in many towns throughout the United States, always under a subdomain of our main site (e.g., afcreditunion.teachbanzai.com). Does this hurt our SEO rankings? We have a very specific reason for creating these microsites, because it's a high selling point. I've read and watched the material here on Moz regarding subdomains and subfolders, but it doesn't quite answer my question: since we create all these microsites not with the intent of passing authority to our website but with the intent of making their microsite have their branding.

Andy, your answer makes sense and aligns with what I've heard from other SEO experts. Much appreciated.

Hi,
No, there is no issue in what you are doing. It has long been understood that what you are doing is a good solution for just these sorts of circumstances.
As long as it is clear you aren't trying to pass link equity across just for SEO benefits, it sounds like a good solution.

WordPress Themes and SEO
I am helping out a client with updating their website.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | cangelmarketer
The theme they currently have hasn't been updated in ages (I am going to guess years). Would there be a difference in updating to the most recent version of their theme and changing them to a completely different theme? Or because they update in the current theme is so large anyway, it won't make a difference in terms of SEO. The reason I ask is that they don't know their Themeforest details to log in and download the most recent version of the theme, so they would have to re-purchase it, and with the hosting, they have access to a range of themes includes in their package. Ecommerce, SEO & Pagination
Hi I'm trying to workout if there's something wrong with our pagination. We include the rel="next" and "prev" on our pages. When clicking on page 2 on a product page, the URL will show as something like - /lockers#productBeginIndex:30&orderBy:5&pageView:list& However, if I search site:http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/lockers in Google, it seems to find paginated pages: http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/lockers?page=2 I have a feeling something is going wrong here, but haven't worked massively on Pagination before. Can anyone help?

Can multiple redirects from old URLs hurt SEO?
We have a client that had an existing site with existing rankings. We rebuilt the site using DNN 7 and created/tested 301 redirects from all the Original URLs to the new DNN URLs which are nasty and have /tabid/1234 and will not allow for dashes (-)'s We have found a DNN module that will make the DNN 7 URLs search friendly. However, that will cause us to 301 the current DNN urls to the new URLs so in fact the original will redirect to the DNN and the DNN will redirect to the rewritten SEO friendly URLs. What should we know here before proceeding?

What more to do for such a client
Hi.. We have taken a automobile spare parts clients SEO deal. 4 keywords to work on and competition is not that great also. So looks good. For the first 2 months, we have finished doing its social bookmarking, social blogging , few directory submission and thre complete onsite SEO. Now for the new months, what should be the new plans ? What all things we can do for those 4 keywords ? I mean, what more methods to promote ? For this month, I have a new plan. Find all the related websites and send a personalized email to all asking them for a Link exchange. Tell me more.

The use of subdomains to improve SEO?
A clients website which provide a number of trade services which have a page for each service they provide for example: carpentry or electrician or plumbing etc. currently these pages are found at domain.co.uk/bathrooms/ bathrooms.html I am trying to optmise each page better as they are competing with other sites who for example sell bathrooms rather than bathroom installers or plumbers. As part of the on page optimisation I plan to change the page names and directory structure. I had an idea to split the website down into subdomains for various sections i.e for all their services Create a sub domain such as http://plumber.domain.co.uk 2.) upload the relevant content (in this example the plumbing page) to the sub domain location 3.) correct all the links to absolute URLs for each sub domain / Will this help target better use of keywords in the URL in terms of SEO efforts ? hope it makes sense thanks Darren

How To Create Dynamic WordPress Tags
Does anyone know how to make WordPress "tag" pages automatically generate a description based on the posts included in the tag? I have a lot of tags, and most of them rank well for long tail keywords. However I have noticed that although they have a dynamically generated "title meta tag" they do not generate a "description meta tag". I know WordPress lets you customize the description for each tag, but I have way to many for that. I need the description meta to be auto generated from the posts that are being tagged, rather than not including one at all. Does anyone know how to do this?
