Consequences of shutting down a company blog
-
We’re an ecommerce company with a blog of 150+ posts. The blog brings in very low traffic and we were never that consistent in publishing great and frequent content. We now know our organic traffic comes from other pages that are doing great. So our question.. Should we:
1. Stop linking to the blog internally and just leave the it up as is. No harm here we guess, but these posts are not as relevant now and we feel their high bounce rate and low ranking is affecting our overall performance.
2. Take it down and 410 the pages. Will that many 410s eventually hurt us?
3. Take it down and 301 to home page of the company. Will permanently redirecting that many pages to our home page hurt us?Appreciate any input.

I would firstly review whether the content can be touched up to make better use of it.
Failing that, I’d 301 redirect all to the homepage/most relevant page on the site. doing this many redirects will not hurt your site from my experience.
Best of luck!
Cheers,
Casey

If the pages of your blog are not getting much traffic and out-of-date then they are probably not very helpful to your overall website. Also, if they have skimpy content or low quality content they could have a negative impact.
If this was my site I would look at analytics for the blog, select the best traffic-pulling and best link-attracting posts, and redirect or significantly improve anything else that is not already high quality.

Will these pages harm the SEO of my blog?
Hi there, If I put download pages and thank you pages on my blog, will it harm the SEO rankings? As these pages will be pretty thin and will have no links to them internally for obvious reasons, it has me concerned about the effect it could have on my blog. I want to build my blog up to drive traffic, so it's not just a case of throwing the pages up. What is the best solution? No index the pages -- will that be enough? Warm regards Colin

Blog links: Going out or staying in?
I am a wedding photographer and have a "Venues" page on my website. Am I better associating the links to the venue's actual website or to a blog post featuring a wedding I did there? (PS: In the blog post there will be a post aiming at the venue's website.) Thanks!

Company on top website, no hyperlink
Hi - my company's name and website have been mentioned on 3 major websites but there is no hyperlink. Does this totally destroy any SEO value of these mentions? So disappointing, since it's hard to ask a reporter to include a hyperlink / they usually can't.

Does a Subdomain Blog Pass Juice?
I have a client who has their blog on a subdomain instead of subfolder. Unfortunately, the eCommerce platform they are using does not allow them to implement a blog in the subfolder. So now we are looking at growing their blog as a means to drive more traffic to the main site. The blog is a mirror of the eCommerce site's navigation with the main content section being a blog rather than products. Will publishing content and building links to the subdomain blog pass authority to the main site?

Competiton Creating Links from high ranking blogs through comments?
So I have been noticing that a lot of my competition is leaving a lot of non sense comments on high ranking blogs. What they are doing is either A. Linking the username they are using back to the page they want to link or B. Within their comment on that blog leaving their URL in the text or end of comment. Question is does this even work to get links back to your page? Is this that even ethical SEO? Might be a dumb questions but how am i suppose to fight this when its already hard enough to come up with unique content for a e commerce site and then i have to battle my competition doing this?
