Best Approach for GMB/Local Optimization for Central Office with Multiple Locations
-
Hello,
Our site is designed to place people in different locations or houses. We have six locations total; each one has its own name, physical address and landing page. We also have a central office for the brand with its own NAP.
All addresses fall under the guidelines of Google My Business (i.e. people visit each location and our office...etc.).
Unless it’s ideal, we most likely wouldn’t be running a full-scale local campaign for each location due to restrictions on resources and wouldn’t want to spread ourselves too thin.
Our question is; would it be best to set up a GMB listing for each location including our central office, only use the central office or just the 6 locations? – We know multiple locations is not an issue for GMB but we weren’t sure if that’s the ideal way to approach it in this case.
Essentially, would it be better to focus on our central office for GMB/local efforts and just make sure that our other location landing pages are the highest quality possible or better to use GMB for every location (including the main office) and over time start local work on all of the above.
Also, if we do only use just the central office; should we be avoiding listing the other addresses on each landing page to avoid confusing Google as to where we are located?
Any help or insight on how to approach this would be very much appreciated.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you!
Thank you.
Best,

Hi Ben,
You're welcome! Good follow-up question.
If your company (XYZ) places patients in facilities you don't own (Sunshine), then you aren't authorized to create GMB listings for Sunshine. Nor would any other service that places patients in those facilities. Sunshine would need to market themselves as the owner of that location.
Hope that makes sense.

Thank you very much for your fantastic answer. Regarding number 2; if the homes ‘don’t belong to the brand’ would each one need to be marketed independently and just not associated with our brand name? – Curious on what it would change.
I’m assuming from a practical standpoint it would be a similar answer though (i.e. budget providing, starting with the central office and then moving on to the next ones, just in this case separate from mentioning the brand).
Thanks again for the help!
Best,

Hi Ben,
Thank you for the additional details. So, I'm seeing a couple of factors at play here that are important to your ultimate decision making.
-
If your resources are too spare right now to market 6 locations + home office, then, yes, just go with the home office and then begin marketing your other locations as budget becomes available.
-
But, ideally, you would want to market all of your locations - if - and this is an important "if" - each of these locations genuinely belongs to the business. So if you are XYZ Rehabilitation Center, these locations must also be XYZ Rehabilitation Center. This cannot be your XYZ brand placing people at Sunshine Rehabilitation Center and then marketing Sunshine as if it were your own. So, provided all locations are branded with your brand, then yes, you'd want to market them all.
You're right that you want to strive for brand recognition and want people searching for "XYZ" to find and recognize your brand on the web. But, many people won't be searching for your brand. They'll be searching for something like "drug addiction treatment center San Diego". If one of your facilities (not your home office) is located in San Diego, you want these customers to find it. And, so, you need to market it. That's the basic rationale behind all this.
So, if you have the budget, market everything. If your budget is tight, do it one location at a time. Good luck!

-
Go with local locations. You can append or prepend brand name to the locations names. "Pete's Place - Brand Name". Because folks would want to go to the closest place, not to the central office.
-
Thank you both for the help; it’s very much appreciated.
It might be a similar principle as a real estate firm, but our business helps place people with addictions into different treatment homes in the area. While each home has its own name, address and landing page, we have a central office for the brand.
Our thought was because it’s less likely for people to search for the individual addresses and people would be more inclined to recognize the brand it might make more sense to just use the central office. But we weren’t sure if that’s the best approach or if it is, how best to handle mentioning the address on each landing page.
If there are any other details we could provide that might help just let us know.
Thanks again!

Hi Ben!
May I ask for a little more clarity regarding your business description "Our site is designed to place people in different locations or houses".
Are you a real estate firm? Something else?
-
Hi there.
Think of it from the user's perspective. Does your product/service "require" brick and mortar location? Would people be more likely to buy from you if they can visit (or even just see online) local physical location? Or does it all just kinda forwards to central office and those local offices are more for show?
If having local offices are beneficial to users, therefore it will be beneficial to your business, therefore go ahead and have GMB for all of them. If not, then just GMB for central location.

Google My Business search results for multiple listings
I am wondering how people set up their Google My Business listings to appear in the search results similar to this business, Hulme Orthodontics. I attached an image below that'll give more details. I am working with a client that has two locations similar in distance to Hulme Orthodontics, and I have tried everything and have come up with no answers as to how I can properly get Google to format the search results in this way. I assume that there is no actual way to manage this and that Google decides this on their own. However, if anyone has any insight regarding this manner, that would be much appreciated! Thank you for your help! UsEr3rK

Local Search filter or penalty
Hi to everyone!
Local Listings | | SpanishDancer
Our business is ranking very well on Google in our niche (diving zanzibar).
We constantly work on SEO and use MozPro to follow our ranking. Our problem is on LOCAL SEARCH and GOOGLE MAPS.
Our GMB is optimized, updated, has many photos and the most review in our niche.
We use to rank in the first 3 results for most search terms (for example: diving zanzibar, zanzibar diving).
Since October 2017 our ranking dropped to the bottom of the GMB results and never recovered. We suspect that our business is being filtered or panelised for 3 reasons:
1. When registering on GMB years ago, we entered our site title as our business name (Diving Zanzibar - Spanish Dancer Divers - PADI 5 Star). In September 2017 after reading the guidelines, we changed the business name to the real name (Spanish Dancer Divers)
2. We are located in Zanzibar (Africa) where physical addresses do not exist. Not Knowing which address is best to enter on GMB we kept trying different options ("Nungwi Beach, Nungwi, Zanzibar", "Nungwi, Zanzibar", Nungwi Beach, Zanzibar, Tanzania, etc..) A week ago, in order to check why we are being filtered, we have changed the address again. The result was an immediate drop of 3 more places.
3. A year ago, we have been receiving many ratings and photos that belong to a restaurant next to us. Google support was useless so we decided to move our map locating a mile into the ocean to prevent getting those ratings and photos. Since then, we have move our location on map back to our real location. Is there a way to know what we are being filtered for? how long will that last? is there a way to fix that?
Business name: Spanish Dancer Divers
Search term: diving zanzibar, zanzibar diving, tauchen sansibar, plongee zanzibar and many others
Website: https://www.divinginzanzibar.com/ Thanks ahead for your help.

Local Help! Google+ Accounts for New Brand & Service Sites
Hi Mozzers! I have a lot of knowledge in local search, G+ page setup/optimization, etc, etc... However, I'm about to begin a business based around "home services". The brand will be ABC Home Services as the umbrella. Then under it will be the individual services like "ABC Carpet Cleaning" "ABC Roofing", etc... Each service will have it's own website for optimization purposes and local search authority building as well as the services will be developed over the course of a couple years ie: carpet cleaning would go up 1st, then the next service and so on... I have purchased all of the domains I want for the services to focus on. What do you recommend I do in terms of setting up Gmail accounts/G+ accounts? Individual service related Gmail accounts and have a main "ABC Home Services" Google account and then add in the service G+ pages over time? I'm open to any questions, but trying to make this the most efficient for me and my team and also the best if can be for local optimization goals and criteria. Thank you! - Patrick

How to change your location for local search results?
Hi Everybody Back in december 2015 I came across this article https://gofishdigital.com/google-results-change-location/ explaining how to change location for local search results using the google emulation tool by setting up new coordinates. This was also picked up by mikeblumenthals' blog as being one of the best way of doing this. I tried it at the time and it worked very well. I tried using it last week and again this week but my location no longer seems to update. I have tried it on fifferent computers located in different locations and still it doesn't work. Does anyone know if this feature is no longer available and if not what else they'd recommend to verify local search results. Thanks

Schema.org Best Practices
I am employing some schema.org markup for a dental website, and I am wondering what best practice for using markup is. The NAP is on the footer and on some pages on the sidebar. I was wondering... Should I use schema for the NAP on both the footer and the sidebar or is markup on just one enough? Are there any negative consequences to having the same info marked up twice on the same page? Should I use the itemtype "dentist" or "localbusiness"? Is there an added benefit to either depending how you look at it? My thoughts were that "dentist" is more specific, so that would also imply that it is also a local business... If I use the itemtype "dentist" on the footer and "localbusiness" on the sidebar would that violate best practices or would you get the benefits of both? Would love to hear all of your thoughts! Thanks!!!

How much local traffic should I expect
I handle mostly small business and provide SEO optimization services and content creation. My question is about local search. what is a reasonable amount of local search traffic for small service companies. For instance I handle an electric and hvac company with an estimated population of 100,000 people within a ten mile radius. With approx 20 companies who provide competition. Should I expect 10 hits a day 20, a hundred? How do I quantify results on a local level as to not make expectations too high. The good metrics I have is the amount of prospects who have found my clients through the web and purchased services. That percentage is high. But Is there room to improve if my client received 15 hits a day?
