Brandpoint.com
-
We were recently made aware of brandpoint.com. They produce content and guarantee the content will be listed on a minimum of 600 websites that they have agreements with. This includes the LA times and others. Their agreements state that the content will be a maximum of 2 clicks from the homepage and will live for 1-2 years before getting archived.
Does anyone know anything about this company and/or the overall strategy of achieving links on these highly trafficked/valued sites through articles?
Will these links help us or is this similiar to sending out a press release on prweb where you get picked up by benzinga and other sites automatically and the value for the links isn't really there?
Any insight you can provide about this company and or strategy would be most appreciated.

I have used Brandpoint about 10 times. Yes, they used to be called ARA content. Their writers are professional journalists and they write very high quality articles on your behalf after you fill out a questionnaire and do a phone interview with them. Their background is in creating "mat" articles for community newspaper editors to pick stories to run for the purpose of having more content to run ads around. They're still in that business but they also now offer this online service.
The articles do appear on about 600 sites, and yes it is advertorial. The sites are almost entirely local TV station websites, but also some online newspapers, such as the newly added LA times.
I ran a test last year, linking to a very specific term to see if it helped rank a page for a specific term and it did have a noticeable impact. You won't get any traffic from the links, but the links do show up in opensiteexplorer as good quality backlinks to your site.
I've wondered if Google will devalue or penalize this now with the Panda and Penguin, but I haven't seen a problem with it yet.

I do not have any experience with this company, BUT what really makes me listen up is that they GUARANTEE you to get into LA Times. I may lack a bit of knowledge here (hopefully not) but I believe that this most definitely means advertising / advertorials. Within a journalistic context I don't think they can guarantee you to get onto a site as they would have to bribe somebody to write stuff that he/she is probably not interested in. I have a partnership with a very big European PR company and even though one of Europe's most favourable skiing resorts is one of their clients they still do not get everything they write about that resort published, whether it is small or big magazines / sites. I'd be very suspicious about that point and ask them how exactly they manage to get you there...
If they come up with advertorials / advertising, I think you should be aware of that fact that Google doesn't like followed links within an advertising context. They most often see it as a bought link (which it is in fact) and ranking could go south for your page.

It looks like they used to be ARAcontent and recently changed their name. http://minnov8.com/2011/03/14/minnesota-brand-storyteller-changes-name-to-brandpoint/
I don't have any experience with them, but am including the above link and note in case people have experience with ARAcontent they can add, since the name change was just a few months ago.

Do links on Reference.com and Ask.com count as backlinks?
Hi there Just had a quick question about links on Reference.com or Ask.com. I have been looking at my competitors link profiles to get ideas of who and where I should/could be linking from. One of my main competitors seems to have links on Reference.com and Ask.com which are being listed in there profile. Reference.com are dofollow. Our site is also appearing on these sites, but the links are being listed under our profile. We have been up and running for more that 3 years now. The obviously have high DR and I think must be a contributing factor to their rank, having looked at other links in their profile. It seems strange because I thought these sites are effectively search engines and therefore wouldn't count towards your backlink profile? Can anyone explain? Would be most grateful if someone can. Many thanks in advance. Clojo

Should i disavow yellowpages.com. Webmater tools shows 656 links coming from it.
We do not have any manual penalty warnings but I am still concerned that Google will see this as unnatural and be penalizing us to a lesser degree.

Business.com still relevant(after all the recent updates)
Just curious if paying for a business.com link is still relevant at all. I cancelled my yahoo paid directory listing after researching on here. Can put the $300 to better use elsewhere. Just curious if business.com is now not the best use of money either. Thanks! Aaron

Optimizing YP.com and Yelp listings for local business
I have a fairly new business and I have been citation building over the past year. I noticed that when I perform a search for my keyword and city that YP.com and Yelp show up high on Google SERPS. I have a listing on both of these directories but my listing is unfortunately buried. I have optimized my listings on these sites to the best of my ability. I have not upgraded to paid advertising on either. It's expensive and I here mixed reviews on the ROI. I will list both profiles: http://www.yelp.com/biz/care-wellness-center-margate | http://www.yellowpages.com/margate-fl/mip/care-wellness-center-465315829 | Can anyone offer any advice on optimizing or boosting these listings so I turn up in the first 3-5 instead of 20 or lower? Thank you Robert Herbst

How to improve ranking on .com vs 'local' .no
Hi I am ranking 1st for my main keyword (barneklær-childrens clothing) on google.no. I got a bit surprised to see we are close to bottom of page 2 for same keyword on google.com. This keyword is as you probably understandreally country specific because the norwegian letter -æ . So if I take a look at the list at google.com its really the same sites I am outranking on .no. For this keyword local stats pr month is 22k and global is 29k (from google adwords). Even though our site is norwegian only - all of the global traffic is relevant due to the fact that this is a norwegian only word. Main reason we are ranking first on google.no i think is that we ve had articles on the strongest and most relevant blogs in Norway. I am guessing we somehow need to improve our international linking profile - right ? Do i then need US sites ? Is it enough with sites outside Norway? Any suggestions, its not easy to get international links to a norwegian site only dealing with childrens clothing. Thanks in advance... Dan Lærum

How do paid directories like thomasnet.com do so well in the serps? Aren't the Panda updates supposed to be moving us away from this?
With all of the updates/changes to Google's algo, I assumed that paid listings & links like those on thomasnet.com would have less merit. Is this an incorrect assumption?

How Can I Get Invitation To Quora.com?
I am looking to get more variety in my link building strategy and I wanted to try Quora.com, because there are a lot of people sharing great stuff about it. However, when I tried to register I got note that I need to get invited to be able to participate, but I do not know any existing members. Any suggestions how to get an invite?
