Should I submit an additional sitemap to speed up indexing
-
Hi all,
Wondered if there was any wisdom on this that anyone could impart my way?
I'm moving a set of pages from one area of the site to another - to bring them up the folder structure, and so they generally make more sense. Our URLs are very long in some cases, so this ought to help with some rationalisation there too.
We will have redirects in place, but the pages I'm moving are important and I'd like the new paths to be indexed as soon as possible. In such an instance, can I submit an additional sitemap with just these URLs to get them indexed quicker (or to reaffirm that indexing from the initial parse)? The site is thousands of pages.
Any benefits / disadvantages anyone could think of? Any thoughts very gratefully received.

I personally would not. There is no need to submit an additional sitemap when you can just ping google to crawl your site at anytime.
Google will put you in a que and crawl you almost immediately.
I would not recommend abusing this. Only ask Google to index your website when you have new content or Google is taking to long to index current content.
The more fresh content you provide, the more Google will re-visit your page and continue to index you
Hope this helps!

Yeah why not an additional sitemap for all pages. I usually send the bot to the old once and let the bot get the redirect. Often times with a new special-for-that created sitemap. I don't sent the new urls - I mean - thats showing the bot existing content on different URLs. Not what I wanted, I want the bot to see the redirects asap. My relaunches or big changes are allways done in one day - so I think thats a good way.

Google Is Indexing My Internal Search Results - What should i do?
Hello, We are using a CMS/E-Commerce platform which isn't really built with SEO in mind, this has led us to the following problem.... a large number of internal (product search) search result pages, which aren't "search engine friendly" or "user friendly", are being indexed by google and are driving traffic to the site, generating our client revenue. We want to remove these pages and stop them from being indexed, replacing them with static category pages - essentially moving the traffic from the search results to static pages. We feel this is necessary as our current situation is a short-term (accidental) win and later down the line as more pages become indexed we don't want to incur a penalty . We're hesitant to do a blanket de-indexation of all ?search results pages because we would lose revenue and traffic in the short term, while trying to improve the rankings of our optimised static pages. The idea is to really move up our static pages in Google's index, and when their performance is strong enough, to de-index all of the internal search results pages. Our main focus is to improve user experience and not have customers enter the site through unexpected pages. All thoughts or recommendations are welcome. Thanks

Why are some pages indexed but not cached by Google?
The question is simple but I don't understand the answer. I found a webpage that was linking to my personal site. The page was indexed in Google. However, there was no cache option and I received a 404 from Google when I tried using cache:www.thewebpage.com/link/. What exactly does this mean? Also, does it have any negative implication on the SEO value of the link that points to my personal website?

Links from non-indexed pages
Whilst looking for link opportunities, I have noticed that the website has a few profiles from suppliers or accredited organisations. However, a search form is required to access these pages and when I type cache:"webpage.com" the page is showing up as non-indexed. These are good websites, not spammy directory sites, but is it worth trying to get Google to index the pages? If so, what is the best method to use?

Getting a Facebox Item De-Indexed
Hello all, Select pages on a website I manage utilizes Facebox lightbox elements for additional information. These Faceboxes have been indexed as their own pages by Google. Unfortunately, when they were created, there is no call to action or navigation elements or anything. So I would prefer that Google not index them since it is a pretty horrible user experience if you navigate to one of these Faceboxes directly. I have tossed up no-index tags on each about three weeks ago, but they are still being indexed at present. Is there any tips or tricks that anyone has to handle this scenario or any ideas that I am not thinking of outside of just no-indexing them? Thanks in advance!

Why is a page with a noindex code being indexed?
I was looking through the pages indexed by Google (with site:www.mywebsite.com) and one of the results was a page with "noindex, follow" in the code that seems to be a page generated by blog searches. Any ideas why it seems to be indexed or how to de-index it?

Tactic to get 2000+ indexed (fast)
Dear SEO'mozzers, Soon i'll be launching my new project. A website with about 2000+ pages, with +- 150 words per page (simple instructions, can't make it longer). It is vital that every page is indexed and will get in the SERP's. Wich tactic can you recommend: Just set every page online at once ( with a good sitemap) or, Feed Google Sitemap with lets say 30 pages a day, so the crawler will come by every day. And hopefully get a better indexation and better rankings over time. Other tactic? of doesnt matter? Many thanks for your help. Gr Menno
