SEOmoz Crawl CSV in Excel: already split by semicolon. Is this Excel's fault or SEOmoz's?
-
If for example a page title contains a ë the .csv created by the SEOmoz Crawl Test is already split into columns on that point, even though I haven't used Excel's text to columns yet.
When I try to do the latter, Excel warns me that I'm overwriting non-empty cells, which of course is something I would rather not do since that would make me lose valuable data.
My question is: is this something caused by opening the .csv in Excel, or earlier in the process when this .csv is created?

Thanks a lot for this question and answer. I've been cursing for months and months on this issue.
The solution suggested by Barry is TOP! Download Open Office, even if it's just to convert CSV correctly to columns.

In hindsight, the solution offered on that page does not do the trick. I guess I will keep using my workaround...
-
Thanks for the quick response. Open Office is something I should have checked first and indeed, opening the .csv in Open Office doesn't cause semicolons to split columns.
A workaround in Excel I've just now tried is making an empty spreadsheet and importing external data from the .csv, which lets me deselect the semicolon as separator.
I've also set the separator to something else in the Windows Language Settings, thanks for that link.

Think it's more likely a PC 'fault'.
You probably want to list a comma rather than a semi-colon as a separator - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/import-or-export-text-txt-or-csv-files-HP010099725.aspx#BMchange_the_separator_in_all_.csv_text
If you use open office you can choose what you want to use when you first open each file.

Is it me or is SEOMOZ Q&A slow
I try and answer many questions here on SEOMoz Q&A, but the page load speed seems so slow I think my browser is going to time out. I don't remember it being this slow. Anybody else noticing slow loading (especially when asking, answering, or replying to questions)?

What value am I getting from SEOmoz?
Okay, I've been using the trial version of SEOmoz for almost a week, but, I'm just not sure what to do with it to be honest. I'm not an SEO expert, so, a lot of the terminology and reports are confusing. So far the only thing I've found useful are the domain and page duplication errors, but, I can get the same info from Google Webmaster Tools. Am I missing something? We have a very simple site for a small business, not sure I can justify $99 per month for a service I don't really understand. Is this service more for SEO professionals than business owners? -Tom

Does SEOMoz ever work?
Hi, I've signed up for the free 30 day trial and I'm on the edge of not actually subscribing to the service. I go through the Q & A boards which I find really interesting and hope I can add value there in the future, but the tools interest me more (and this is where the issue lies. Do they ever work? The Keyword difficulty tool just constantly says to come back in 20 minutes and I don't think the Rank Tracker has worked for at least half my freebie 30 days. Have the tools always been this flaky or is it a blip?

Finding the source of duplicate content URL's
We have a website that displays a number of products. The product has variations (sizes) and unfortunately every size has its own URL (for now anyway). Needless to say, this causes duplicate content issues. (And of course, we are looking to change the URL's for our site as soon as possible) However, even though these duplicate URL's exist, you should not be able to land on them by navigating through the site. In theory, the site should always display the link to the smallest size. It seems that there is a flaw in our system somewhere, as these links are now found in our campaign here on SEOmoz. My question: is there any way to find the crawl path that lead to the URL's that shouldn't have been found, so we can locate the problem?

Our Duplicate Content Crawled by SEOMoz Roger, but Not in Google Webmaster Tools
Hi Guys, We're new here and I couldn't find the answer to my question. Here it goes: We had SEOMoz's Roger Crawl all of our pages and he came up with quite a few erros (Duplicate Content, Duplicate Page Titles, Long URL's). Per our CTO and using our Google Webmaster Tools, we informed Google not to index those Duplicate Content Pages. For our Long URL Errors, they are redirected to SEF URL's. What we would like to know is if Roger is able to know that we have instructed Google to not index these pages. My concern is Should we still be concerned if Roger is still crawling those pages and the errors are not showing up in our Webmaster Tools Is there a way we can let Roger know so they don't come up as errors in our SEOMoz Tools? Thanks so much, e

Crawl Diagnostics Error Spike
With the last crawl update to one of my sites there was a huge spike in errors reported. The errors jumped by 16,659 -- majority of which are under the duplicate title and duplicate content category. When I look at the specific issues it seems that the crawler is crawling a ton of blank pages on the sites blog through pagination. The odd thing is that the site has not been updated in a while and prior to this crawl on Jun 4th there were no reports of these blank pages. Is this something that can be an error on the crawler side of things? Any suggestions on next steps would be greatly appreciated. I'm adding an image of the error spike Xovep.jpg?1 Xovep.jpg?1
