Can SEOMOZ do Local SEO ?
-
Most of our clients are local but we can not get local or regional (for example VA State or Washington DC) SERP results within SEOMOZ. it would be nice to create custom search profiles based on region (State or County) and track SERP within SEOMOZ. Ranking reports and even keyword difficulty analysis etc. within SEOMOZ are misleading for local web sites.
SEOMOZ default site setup assumes every business doing SEO serves all over the US. I think it will be very beneficial if we have a choice to select State or County of local web sites during initial campaing set up at SEOMOZ.
what do you think? do you know any work around of this problem?
Thanks,
Lewis -
Yes, Google allows you to change location but it seems like the search results are still different, probably because Google uses your IP address as a variable.
I use a VPN provider which has 50+ servers around the world and use their VPN servers as proxies.

Excuse me? All I said was I have our interns pull the rankings manually, not have them pulled by an automated tool.
How does that imply I need to grow up? You pull them manually in order to give the most accurate, non-national, non-personalized results.
I even agree with your post that things like SEOmoz' Keyword Difficulty tool is biased towards national brands as sometimes you're going to get geo-specific results that are augmented by Google Places and as it stands the current national rank checker isn't capable of capturing that data or adding in that zip code or city variable that pulls data to a specific set.
Not sure where your hostility is coming from at all.

Thanks Brian, very good input.

Thanks Gyorgy. I agree the cost will be too high to do this. I think we have to continue to use FF toolbar and create custom local search profiles and track the resulst manually so far. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/big-update-to-the-seomoz-toolbar-for-firefox
I heard AuthorityLabs is working on it (not 100% sure about it though)

What can I say Matt.. grow up and read my question again and answer if you can...
-
While I understand Gyorgys point, for what it's worth Google does allow you to change your location to see the results from other areas (see Change location link on left side). If in a new style of Campaign (Local Campaign) was made available, that paired that "Change location" functionality with: ( using Local Ranking Factors as a reference + Moz's own research)
- Ranking - Showing map and what position/pin you have for various local searches at that location
- Places Page Factors - Showing Errors/Warnings/Notices for the various Places page optimizations that can be done to a site
- On-Site Factors - Showing Errors/Warnings/Notices for the various on-site Local optimizations that can be done to a site
- Off-Site Factors - Showing Errors/Warnings/Notices for the various off-site Local optimizations that can be done to a site
Would it be a perfect solution?, perhaps not, but that would be a pretty powerful tool to have, and a very welcome addition to the Pro tool set here.
I have faith in Rand and the Moz Staff... something tells me they have been working on something like this for a while now Brian

I pull my local rankings locally. Or rather, our interns do.

Hi Lewis,
Tracking correct local search results requires proxies in every state and city which is a significant cost. Basically they need a proxy server in every city because Google identifies local searches on city and suburb level too. Having computers all over the US running keywords ranking reports is simply too expensive.
If they had proxies in every state, then which city should be targeted? For example: California. LA or San Francisco ?

Can I setup SEOmoz PRO's 3 organic traffic metrics within Google Analytics (as custom reports)?
I like the 3 organic traffic metrics in SEOmoz PRO: 1) Organic Search Visits
Moz Pro | | AndreVanKets
2) URLs Receiving Entrances Via Search
3) Non-Paid Keywords Sending Search Visits They rock - especially for a high-level view of SEO / Organic performance. Is it possible to setup these metrics as custom reports directly in Analytics? Does anyone have these reports setup? Or maybe there are similar custom reports that give a similar high-level view?0 -
How do i target keywords locally
I am working for a cosmetic surgeon with clinics in three geographic places. I would like to give him specific keywords that he can go after successfully. When I use the keyword tool with terms like botox cosmetic staten island or breast augmentation tarrytown, I get competitive rankings like 36% or 37%, but it doesnt tell me if there are only a few searchers doing this per month. In Google's Adwords tool, it thinks that the number fo searchers with these same terms is too small to measure, literally giving me back a dash (= insignificant traffic). However, it I use Google Adwords with more general terms, say breast augmentation surgeon, and get a medium/110 global monthly searches, when I come back to SEOmoz tool and assess the same keyword, I find that the traffic picks up doctor sites in Arizona and elsewhere, where clearly no one who wants cosmetic surgery in new York is going to fly to Arizona for it. So, how do I ensure a balance between targeting too little traffic but including the names of specific towns, and targetting more general terms but not having local prospects. Has anyone tackled this in a specific medical niche?

Where to learn SEO practices, especially local
I am looking to learn SEO as I know how important it is. I have basic understandings, but I don't know where to start, or what to add. my website is viralextent.com and apparently I'm not so good at ranking. I want to rank locally for "web design". I understand that I couldn't touch the national market right now as I can't even seem to grasp the local. I know everyone's time is valuable so I'm not looking for a free assessment. Where should I go to learn what I need to do next and kind of guide me through the process of becoming #1 for local? I am obviously an SEOmoz PRO member, where should I start here, or should I be looking somewhere else? Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How can I find my past KW rankings?
I want to know how I can find out how a client's site was ranking for keywords at the beginning of the campaign so I can compare it with current rankings. I haven't been generating reports regularly. I kinda assumed I could ask for the reports retroactively. As in, what was the ranking of my keywords from the first crawl done by SEO moz. Thanks!

How fast can Domain Authority be established?
I am wondering how much time it takes to grow a new site's domain authority. More so, based on a consistent stream of links, syndication, and content, how fast can a website grow from 0-20, 21-40, 41-60, etc. in terms of domain authority?

Seomoz Spider/Bot Details
Hi All Our website identifies a list of search engine spiders so that it does not show them the session ID's when they come to crawl, preventing the search engines thinking there is duplicate content all over the place. The Seomoz has bought a over 20k crawl errors on the dashboard due to session ID's. Could someone please give the details for the Seomoz bot so that we can add it to the list on the website so when it does come to crawl it won't show it session ID's and give all these crawl errors. Thanks
